  • Michigan State Police officer Michael Morey caused an accident when Morey pulled over Tim the Trucker for purposes of harassing the professional driver on 2015-07-20.
    ------------------------------
    States are well aware that unnecessary stops cause accidents. Traffic laws require vehicles to slow down or move to the left. This causes needless congestion and the loss of safety margins in between vehicles. Ultimately, these "Roadside Inspections" and prejudicial speed laws requiring trucks to drive slower than cars are the root cause of many accidents on the highways today.
    Officer Michael Morey was the underlying cause of the one-vehicle accident captured by Tim the Trucker in this video.

      @@richardbudd7523 Maybe, but other drivers would debate that with you. I'm not a trucker, but I sure wouldn't start a trip without all paperwork up to date and accessible at the fingertip; it would save time if I was pulled over. @@Ward00 I agree he should check too but if the owner of the truck was doing his job then the paperwork would be up to date and older paperwork taken out and filed like it should. Michigan commercial vehicle enforcement is a joke. They'll rail road you into a rest area put 5 officers on your truck if they don't find any violations you're out of there in less than 15mins with no proof that you had a clean inspection when you argue with them about that by saying "I bet if you found something wrong you'd put this inspection on my record" they get pissed and write you for no reflective tape on the upper corners of the cab, even though the law says it's required for CMV manufactured after July 1, 1997 and the model year of your truck is a 1994 when you tell the gentleman about this he'll tell you that you have 14 days to take it up with the court. Yeah they're out there to make the roads safer alright.

      I worked on the Home Depot distribution account for Swift Transportation in Grand Praire Texas. Kim Rea the on site manager for Swift Transportation would intentionally, willfully plan it to where you had just enough time to tighten down your straps on your flatbed load of lumber and other building materials and then head out. One day I had one of them loads where you had just barely enough time to tighten down your load and leave before the load was late. Upon arrival to tighten down my load in the north yard there was a driver named Bill already there helping me tighten down my load. Bill and I only talked briefly, Bill took off before I had a chance to thank him for helping me tighten down my load. Shortly thereafter as I was enroute to delivering my load that damned disrespectful on site manager Kim Rea sent me a Qualcomm message asking ''Did you thank him?''. That disrespectful on site manager Kim Rea and that poor excuse for a driver Bill PLANNED THE WHOLE EVENT in advance. They planned the whole event in advance to make me feel like that I was some kind of thankless person so then that way they don't have to feel so horrible about they themselves being a bunch of stupid, useless, THANKLESS people. Kim Rea and Bill are wicked. I was informed of the wicked people in the year 2000. I am the first one in world recorded history to have come to find out about the wicked people. The source that informed me of the wicked people informed me that the wicked people have been influencing all of the problems to happen out there.

    • @richardholmes7199

      It's the wicked people who are causing the problems in trucking. It's not US Congress or DOT. It's the wicked people like Kim Rea and Bill who are causing the crap that drivers are expected to tolerate. By the way, on the Bill subject, I just remembered something. One day Bill said ''Ya gall Richard you come clear down from Utah to help Kim on the account, she doesn't even thank you''. This was said by Bill months and months after Kim Rea and Bill pulled that crap on me that I talked about in my last comment. Bill knew that me going clear down to Texas from Utah to help them wicked people out on that account and for them not to thank me is something that Bill knew that only the wicked people would do, in other words. Kim Rea and Bill set up in advance that one event that one day in 05 to make me feel like that I am thankless so that then that way THEY don't have to feel so terrible about being a thankless people, that is. Even though I came clear down from Utah to Texas to help them out on that account.

      Not to mention here in MI with the speed limit raised to 75 MPH you have traffic traveling from 85 to 70 MPH with a few going as fast as 90 and of course those people driving 68 in the left lane. DO NOT see them pulled over. Last two years I worked I drove a fuel transport. Tourists in the summer and ice covered snow drifted roads in the winter. • @stevefry
    @stevefry 5 років тому +2

    The trucker is more responsible for the accident than the trooper. Had the trucker done a proper pre-trip inspection, as he is required to do, the trooper probably would have been more accommodating. The fact that he had so much trouble finding the registration, insurance cards and instruction sheet shows that he did not do a proper pre-trip inspection. What else did he skip? We don't know and neither did the trooper. Pull that in Connecticut and that stop would have been a lot longer and involved a full inspection and several tickets. Be grateful he didn't write you any tickets and stop blaming him for your disregard for the law. Unbelievable.

    Law for emergency vehicles is slow down or move one lane over. If you are paying attention you can see a troopers lights miles down road. Make plan to do either of the above. How freaking difficult is that? Folks travel too close, and don't pay attention. I find the weekend warriors and the RV's the worse menaces on the road, and for the life of me can not figure out why states don't make Rv'ers obtain an endorsement and have an upgraded license in order to drive RV's or pull trailers. They have no idea the maintenance condition of a vehicle or trailer that sits arounds months at a time, how much weight they are hauling nor the physics to try and stop themselves in an emergency, let alone the spacial relations for the size of their vehicle. They drive them in the left lane and at speeds set for cars. As far as the Rv'er going into ditch....he was not paying attention, was traveling too fast and did not leave enough space between him and the other cars to maneuver safely. It was not an accident it was negligence, and example of what was described above. If the trucker had not been exceeding the speed limit, he would not have been pulled over. So in theory it was the professional driver that caused the incidence, sorry.

      Good points but after living in multiple states and a few countries, I would love to have the truck enforcement that MSP puts on commercial carriers. Roads in the south U.S. are beaten to death by overweight trucks, poor driving, speeding and poor upkeep of equipment. No one wants to prevent someone from earning a living or be ridiculous on enforcements, but this guy in the video has been caught speeding a few times. One things I noticed after living in michigan the trucks don't travel in the left lane for no reason, do not have missing mud flaps, don't throw rocks up every mile, and are generally better maintained and have better drivers. I have been travelling in the south recently, I have endured two broken windshields, have countless chips from uncovered truck loads, been witness to several road rage from truckers sitting in left lane talking on their cell phones. If you maintain equipment and do what is right you will not be pulled over and have lesser chance of wrecks. Somehow in my 40 years of driving I have never had a ticket, never been pulled over, or been involved in a wreck like the one in the video. Im no saint, and I do push the speed limit :), but I don't sit in nose to tail traffic, I pay attention, and I leave safe distances. I maintain my vehicles, my trailers and equipment and its amazing the results.

What that cop did was making things less safe he is paid to keep us safe. He could do a lot better. That camper could be carrying someone you care about then you post would be the opposite. I did however see the driver could have been more organized with his paperwork to make this routine traffic stop go smoother. and a little bit of good attitude could have helped this a lot. when you show an officer you are willing to cooperate to the fullest extent most officers will be a little more forgiving when writing citations. The tractor didn't have a speed control at all. When he asks me if I had speed control. I replied, "Yes, I sure have. It is a size 15 with 5 toes on it." That officer laughs his head off. The issue of the "14th Amendment" is incorrect. Holding a Driver license is a privilege, not a right. The 14th Amendment relates to Civil rights, not vehicular regulations and rules. In the United States we have the freedom to travel, and the bulk of modern travel in the United States involves driving an automobile.
      Example: on my way to work every morning I encounter probably 2,000 cars operating on the road in close proximity to my own car, but on a typical morning I will only see 3 or 4 people walking down the side of the road.
      If our current government restricts our freedom to operate a motor vehicle, they have also limited our freedom of modern travel.

    His papers were not correct, in violation of the rules and most likely, company rules. He failed to keep his papers handy, in the case of a traffic stop by a cop. He didn't remove the Qualcomm unit from the bracket for the cop to easily view it. Why was he using a log book (and told the cop so), when he had the electronic log? Of course, the cop would compare the two and look for a violation. Although, technically, he (the driver) was not fast, he WAS in violation of the posted speed limit, and that gave the cop a reason (whether or not we agree with it) the power to pull his ass over. Four-wheelers are especially stupid, when it comes to dealing with vehicles on the side. The statement "...officer MM caused an accident..." is untrue. What is true, most likely, is that, due to his and the driver's presence, traffic became fouled up and the non-driver pulling the camper couldn't handle it.

    I've had a couple instances too where these deputies or HP that like to hide along these wooded crossovers on interstate like to appear in a split second onto interstate to pursue that guy doing 10 over like they're making some major bust. I-95 around Brunswick in Glynn County Ga is forever bad about that.
    I had one pull out of the median woods in front of me one time in the left lane. I think he was so focused on catching a speeder that he never looked to his right when he pulled out. Of course he hit his lights the second his tires hit the pavement so if I had hit him, I would have somehow been at fault. I ended up about 2 feet off his bumper with the ABS fully engaged. I think when he realized his rear window was full of hood and grill he realized what he did and floored it to get out of the way and away from me so I wouldn't have time to get his tag. I never did see the other guy pulled over so I think the cop took the next ramp so I wouldn't catch up with him.

    Hey driver, the cop didn't cause the accident. That was caused by the driver not paying attention to the road in front of him. If you get into an accident and rear-end someone, who's fault is it? Yours!!! For failure to maintain a proper distance. Same thing applies here. I'm not a cop lover by any means. I drove for 35+ years. Yes I got quite a few speeding tickets. Only had three accidents, two of which were not my fault (according to documentation), so I figure I was doing good when I got out of the game. But blaming a cop for someone else's lack of judgement doesn't look good on you. That's akin to you getting blamed for an accident that took place on the other side of the interstate just because you were driving by.
    So stop and "Put your Big Boy Panties on" and stop blaming someone else for something that happened, which wouldn't have happened had you not been speeding to get pulled over in the first place.

It always amazes me that people who like to call themselves "professional drivers", often have an extensive traffic history, and the "average" driver hasn't. and it's got nothing to do with the argument some try and put up that "professionals" are on the roads more, so they are more likely to be stopped. • @fk4515
      @fk4515 5 років тому +1

      First and foremost it you're a "professional" in a job that is not a professional field the term professional only really means you're getting paid to do something. Second comparing a "professional truck driver" to an average driver is not a valid statistical argument my father was a over the road truck driver, at one point in his career he taught UPS employees to drive Semi-trucks. In a year he drove about the same mileage I do in 10 years so if he had 5 tickets and I had one his incident rate per mile was still about 1/2 of mine. Second much of the traffic code is not so much designed for safety but for some municipalities to get revenue so traffic tickets may not be a valid measurement. Example is in Michigan when the federal government imposed the 55 MPH speed limit it was not for safety reasons but for fuel economy and if you took a driver's test during that era you would be asked "what is the speed limit on Michigan interstates?" and if you answered 55 you would be wrong as Michigan law still read 70 MPH, and the fee structure and points system for speeding allowed if you were on a limited access highway, ticketed for exceeding the 55 MPH speed limit BUT you were on a section of highway that was or would of had a higher speed limit prior to enactment of the 55MPH speed limit and you were traveling at or less than that speed you paid a fine but were accessed no points on your license. Or the small town in Wisconsin that handily happened to be on a state highway that connected the I-39 and US 51/151 systems to US 41 and saved 15-20 miles of travel while doing it, magically their speed limit drops from 55 to 35, (most other cities in the area go 55-45-then 35) the signs tend to be blocked by trees or other objects, but cheer up the quick stop in town will give you a discount on the souvenir Tee shirt if you show then them a copy of a recent citation in their speed trap (some of the town's businesses weren't to keen on the speed trap).

    Greetings Operation CDL, I am a retired trucker. Back in 1991, I was driving on I-85 south from Greensboro, NC to Charlotte, NC. Back then there was no illegal lane restriction for big truckers. I was driving for Bell South. I came up behind a slow truck in the right lane. I was talking with him on the CB. I turn my left signal light on to proceed slowly in the left lane. It was 5 minutes later I was behind another slow truck in the 2nd lane. So I turn my left signal light on to proceed slowly into the 3rd lane. I was about half in the 3rd lane when a state trooper shot across from the blindside of my trailer going at least 100 MPH with no blue light on and no siren on. I very quickly turn back into the 2nd lane. Trooper shot out into the median and turn his blue light on. I told the other trucker over the CB that the trooper was going to pull me over. The trucker told me that I didn't do anything wrong, the trooper did a very unsafe move. My reply was, I know I didn't do anything wrong. He had my heart about hanging out of my mouth. I had no warning. The trooper did pull me over. When I saw him with his hat on, I knew he was going to give me a ticket. I ask him if he was okay. He said yes, come back to my patrol car with paperwork and license and registration. He wrote me a ticket for not looking. That was a lie. He couldn't tell I wasn't looking. To make the story short. I had a witness from that other trucker that told what that trooper did what I couldn't see. I really embarrass that trooper in front of the judge. The judge told me, I really shouldn't have got that ticket in the first place. It was the troopers unsafe move with no warning at all.

      The speed limit at the time this video was recorded was 60mph for trucks you could do 64 all day long and they would not bother you. The speed limit in Michigan is now 65, but the federal transport law states that officers must allow 5mph over for variances in speedometers and tires which can affect your actual speed. This guy was doing 66 in a 60. That is a magnet for the DOT to look for further violations.

    You we’re pulled for speeding and you are making an assumption of his reasoning for allowing you to go your merry way. You are now a mind reader and know the mind set of the officer. You seem to want to blame an officer for your lack or attention to detail. I have had my share of dealing with asshole officers and this guy was nothing but professional. He is not hiding anything. His actions didn’t cause any accident. The actions of the other drivers caused the accident. I do agree however that they should allow you to pull into a safe place instead of on the narrow shoulder of an interstate. You are allowed to drive on until you feel that it’s in the best interest of your safety and that of the others. I have never driven up there so I can’t speak for that location. That was 21:27 of time I lost because you were butthurt.
    Note: looking at the video once again I see multiple cars passing this guy like there’s no tomorrow. I don’t know if there’s a different speed for truck versus cars but I seriously didn’t see where he was doing anything out of the way. If he was speeding then so be it he was justly pulled but if not then he is correct. Not afraid to say I am wrong but I still stand by the statement above. The cop was doing his job and wasn’t disrespectful from what I saw. He could have beat the citation in court but at what cost?

    Next time maybe you shouldn't be speeding. Don't try passing the blame. Regardless, the officer was 100% legal and within his scope of duty while performing the stop. You were completely unorganized from the get go. Couldn't find paperwork, didn't even know you were supposed to have paper logs (but thankfully you did), had no idea what an instruction sheet was supposed to look like (basic E-log 101), had no idea where your trailer registration was (so you clearly didn't do your pretrip), and the list goes on. The officer had an attitude, I get it. But how many truckers do you think he deals with just like you who have no idea what you're doing and make his job 10x harder? Not to mention you violated your logs and tried using weather as an excuse. He was very understanding and respectful as you made a terrible attempt at justifying your violation. As a favor to all of us, you should seriously consider coming off the road.

    So, have you not learned what the term "good buddy" really means yet? Lol...geez. Everything the officer requested is part of the DOT pre-trip inspection that's to be done by the driver before going on the road. He must have a "store bought" CDL license. The officer knows more about the truck than the driver does. Plus, I really don't think this guy should be imparting any kind of info on what you should or shouldn't do on the highway when he didn't know the most basic requirements of a driver... and "dangerous?" Dangerous is not doing a proper pre-trip inspection, thus putting everybody on the highway in jeopardy himself. The officer could have got you for a whole lot more than a speeding violation but didn't.

  • @joetheisen2324
    @joetheisen2324 5 років тому

    The thing is if you have all your information ready for the officer by the time he/she gets to your door, odds are they are going to tell you why you were pulled over, grab your trailer documents and head back to their vehicle. Since the driver didn't seem to be organized whatsoever the officer then decided to look at the logs. You shouldn't have to get out of your seat in order to get all of this information. As for the accident, state of Michigan does not require a vehicle to move over if there is an emergency vehicle on the shoulder. They must slow down or move over. The only person that was responsible for the accident was the party not paying attention to what was going on.

    I am going to look at this from a couple ways. As a retired OTR driver over 25 years with 4 million SAFETY miles, and as a trained and former DOT Officer from my home state. Yes you can be on both sides of the GAME!!!!
    DRIVER SIDE: THE 30 minutes violation, you stated weather caused it, DOT regs state as we ALL know you can have up to 2 extra driving hours because of bad weather, you are to note the weather overage on the comment line section of your log book. I don't know if your system allows you to make comments or not, but you explained it to him and you should NOT receive a ticket for that. SPEEDING he got you for 6 over the posted in MI. Take the speeding ticket and GO TO COURT, the judge WILL throw it out. MI is in VIOLATION OF FED REGS on speed limits. NO SPLIT SPEEDS FOR TRUCKS.
    You ARE required to have a log book in case the computer book goes down. You did. All good.
    You should keep your current Med Card handy and destroy expired cards. He looked upset about that.
    COP SIDE: You were speeding, 6 over, he is allowed to pull you and ticket you, if he does its a dick move. UNLESS HE IS DOT CERTIFIED he can not look at your log book. ALWAYS ASK IF THEY ARE. A lot of states are training State Police/ Highway Patrol in log book regs and issue a card with date of training. Check date on card to see if he is current on regs.
    He CAN PULL YOU OVER ANYWHERE. However his line about cars doing 80mph, is bullshit. If that is the case, pull the cars over for speeding and ticket them!!!!
    His NOT KNOWING HOW LONG AGO THE VEHICLE WENT INTO THE DIVIDER, that is really bad situational awareness and shows he is not the sharpest tool in the shed!!!!
    HE gave you a copy of the report to turn in and return to the state. THAT REPORT PUTS HIS ASS AT THE SCENE!!!! HE IS NOT TRYING TO AVOID BEING PLACED AT THE SCENE!!! YOU HAVE TO LOG THE TIME ON THE SHOULDER GETTING CHECKED OUT. On paper logs you would put in comment section the following: time you went on-duty not driving and time you went back on-duty driving (line 4) in comments section it will read pulled over by MSP, milemarker???, hwy ????, direction of travel, and why stopped.
    He has to log the info as well. I guarantee there is radio verification of the time of stop and the plate number of the trailer you are pulling and description of the truck, then there is time he released you called into dispatch showing his unit clear. ALL LE does this. If he ran your license that will show up as well!!!
    There is NOTHING other than you saying so on a UA-cam video the officer is trying to hide his presence at the scene!!!!!
    Drivers like you give cops a BAD REPUTATION that they DO NOT DESERVE!!!! YOU HAVE A JOB, HE HAS A JOB!!!! YOU DO YOUR JOB,WITHOUT BREAKING THE LAW, AND YOU WON'T SEE A POLICE OFFICER DOING HIS!!!!!

I know they do have to go to the same police academy in Lansing, but 30 years ago, they were not quite the same. Motor Carrier officers could not pull over automobiles unless there was good evidence of someone driving under the influence. Then they could pull you over and sit and wait for an MSP officer to arrive to write the ticket. But perhaps things are different now.
