Thanks for sharing this video. I'm just now seeing it. I was a Machinist Mate in A-Division (A GANG) onboard Mighty Mo during this time. Wow. Memories!
I was stationed in Longe Beach at this time aboard the USS Cayuga LST 1186. The Missouri was definitely an impressive ship. I just dint have the same confidence in the military these days because of how the government is running things. There is no way today's guys would measure up to this , my generation..Even more impressive was the generation that sailed this rig in the 40s and 50s. Hard to believe this country couldn't even make this ship today w computers even because we've sent our skilled industry overseas. It sure is something to be proud of though. As Sailors of these days "we definitely HAD MORE FUN ! ! "
My UNREP station was the refueling rig (sending, stbd aft). We got to watch this day, but later in the trip we were woken at 2am to refuel three frigates in much heavier seas, complete with waves across the flight deck.
I had a buddy on her who was in charge of 1500 Marines in the IO; had letters from Dick Cheney and the admirals in the late 80's. He had PTSD, was in my wedding; then just up and disappeared. Thanks for sharing!
Machinist made my job possible, fc3 Erik goggin, shout out to the whole crew, agis class, we didn't require a aircraft carrier, rdd2 had our back, ask the people of the persion gulf, who experienced our prencence, and the diversity of the mighty mo! 87/89

I was aboard USS Missouri that day. My GQ station was in Turret 1 so I was one of those guys up forward loading powder.
Thank you... Must have been a great feeling to know you were aboard the very baddest cat at sea...
