I got this antenna about 7 years ago. It's a portable antenna, that needs an amplifier. It's good for emergency.

    • @JonathanMcKey

Exactly. On my portable TV that the antenna came with, you need to go into the settings and turn on the 12v antenna power in order to receive just about anything, only the 1 analog station in my area could get a half decent picture with it turned off. And to no surprise, the thing broke last year so thank god it came with an adaptor to make it hook up to F type coax cables.

I used this antenna works well for outdoor usages. I am able to get all the major channels. This works well outside not inside.
I purchased this antenna to watch TV outside. I highly recommend this antenna for outdoor usages as well as with a RV or a trucker, which my brother used while he is on the road.

I bought that antenna ages ago for the "hurricane tv" that we run on the generator after storms. It gets only two channels consistently but we do get the channel we watch for news. I'll be interested to see how your other indoor antennas perform.

i’m excited to see your indoor antenna test series, to see if any of these coming up might work at our place. This one I don’t think would because we once had a flat antenna I had gotten from Amazon and it didn’t do very well. So I would expect about the same with this one. Just for your information, I just found out thatATSC3.0 just launched here in the greater Flint Michigan area with all five major network stations that was supposed to be carrying that and the old standard as of today. I do plan at some point to get a tuner to see how well our sky blue eight bay outdoor antenna works with it because we actually have that unit pointed towards Detroit, so we would actually I think be able to receive the Flint and Detroit new TV standard. Thought you may want to pass it on to other viewers living in our neck of the woods. Great video and excellent information as usual.

I’ve used this, works very well, not expensive either. I’ve used it as an outdoor antenna, and stuck the magnet part of the base to the indoor metal part of the window frame. Did a fine job both ways. More of an outdoor antenna but still good indoors propped in the window cill.

I know I brought this up before, but I moved to a new house, and tried the NASCAR issue with FOX25 (Boston), where I believe they are dropping the signal on big events to try and get people to pay for TV, you know those transmission fees, right?
Comes to find out IT'S REPEATABLE HERE TOO! On any other day, FOX 25 comes in at about 77%, yet NASCAR Sunday, mid 30s, and dropping out to unwatchable status. While the performance here is better, it still proves they are messing with the signal. Two different locations, same BS. No coincidence here.

    • @kenenglish124
      @kenenglish124 2 роки тому

The signal strength indicator on most TV's and tuners doesn't really show the power of the signal. It shows the inverse of how hard the correction circuit is working.
It's more likely that Sunday is a popular day for your neighbors to be home, operating interference-creating gadgets.

"A few feet can..." shoot i had a situation where the difference between picture and no picture was .1 inches. Granted the signal margin was calculated at -3dB. I seriously had my compass out trying to plot out the exact angle needed so the reflectors were orthongangol to the broadcast tower. That was a tough signal to get, but so glad I spent the time to get it. Turned out to be a reliable signal since I had an antenna dedicated to that one signal. I had anther general antenna for all the other UHF signals with tuned filters to avoid the two antennas from producing wave forms that would cancel each other out. I then had a VHF hi antenna and a VHF lo antenna for FM signals. The FM antenna had an anti FM trap filter, theres a real term for it just cant remember at the moment, so it wouldn't create harmonics over the other 3 antennas. So yes I had 3 pre-amplifiers for a 4 antenna setup with a powered distribution splitter. Just so I could have something to watch from time to time in college.

Tyler, have you tried the FLATenna+ from Channel Master? If you haven't reviewed that one I would like to see you review it. I know your opinion on flat antennas (and I share the same opinion). But Channel Master is a good brand, maybe it's better? "The FLATenna is already regarded as one of the best performing indoor TV antennas on the market. The FLATenna+ will increase signal strength providing increased channel reception and reducing issues with channels having poor signal quality. The included amplifier (MicroAmp) has been fine-tuned for optimal performance when used with the FLATenna." Copied and pasted directly from their website. Let me know what you think. It claims a 50 mile range.

Hello there Tyler, I'm from the Philippines about this Magnetic Indoor Antenna, it is also use as an Outdoor Antenna for both DTV and digital boxes. just put it on the roof (be sure it was made of steel because of the antenna has a magnetic base) and it works not just getting a better signal also adding more digital channels since transmitting towers of most broadcast networks including GMA, TV5, GTV and A2Z are located either Quezon City in Metro Manila or Antipolo in Rizal. this was based on my experience since I bought a digital box in 2018.
note: Television Broadcast in the Philippines is currently using ISDB-T (Intergrated Services Digital Broadcasting - Terrestrial) which is now use in Japan and Latin American countries including Brazil

    'Red Flags to Me':
"Digital HDTV Antenna"(has nothing to do with being 'Digital')
"Includes Magnetic Base"(magnet disrupts signal path-not tuned to direct signal path)
    "Coaxial Cable"(Dah)
"10 FEET Coaxial Cable"(what little signal you MIGHT get certainly would be lost in 10 FEET of cheap coax)
"50 Mile Range"(is that a Gas or Electric Range? - if you believe that I have a Bridge for sale you probably would be interested in buying)
"Indoor or Outdoor"(that thing has no gain to it. If you ran coax to the outside the cable loss would overcome what little signal it would receive-if any)
"Impedance: 50 Ohm"(mismatch impedance-consequent signal loss - should be 75 Ohm for ANY television receiver)
"Supports 1080P and 4K"(has nothing to do with an antenna-impresses the potential buyer though)
"Stay connected with the latest in TV technology"(Oh WOW! - Really? Latest in TV Technology?)
Hey, but would I know? Only been a Broadcast Engineer for 37 years.
But if it makes you happy, go ahead and buy the stupid thing.

Seem's there was no mention of Polarity, concerning this magnetic mount which appears to be, " Vertical " , opposite of the Polarity transmitted by Television stations !
Hint for those that use old fashioned,
" Rabbit Ear " antenna's : The length of the telescoping pieces are critical to the wavelength, ( Frequency/Channel ), being received !
Remember the Higher the frequency of interest, the shorter the antenna length !
Likely more critical in areas on the fringe, as opposed to homes saturated by strong signal's, due to proximity !
Many thing's come into play trying to receive these channels.
Even signal's that may be reflected off building's, Water Tower's, etc. !
Experimentation is the rule here, more than not, especially using indoor antennas !
Don't be afraid to move the antenna around, even setting on the floor, sometime's will bring signal's that aren't seen with an antenna setting higher !
So many things can add or subtract to your success !
    Weather, Propagation characteristics etc. !
All that can be studied on various internet site's, for those a little more Nerdy !
    Hope this helped someone !
    👍😉

My father purchased one. He lives about 60 miles from the broadcast tower. But he also lives on top of a mountain. Dish and CBS was having problems. All he wanted was CBS. Nothing with this antenna.

I'm not trying to be humorous or sarcastic here, but how does the Luxtronic antenna's performance compare with using a paperclip inserted into the RF input?

    • @AntennaMan
      @AntennaMan  2 роки тому +1

It's funny you ask - my next video will be about a paperclip antenna. I think the Luxtronic would work a bit better since it's a tiny bit larger and can be moved around unlike a paperclip.

Tyler, for your recommended signal meter box, any idea why the Amazon listing says “This item cannot be shipped to your selected delivery location. Please choose a different delivery location.”? I tried a number of zip codes in the Chicago area and it comes up with the same message.

Will the older antennas still work or not, because the old indoor antenna used to work well for me?! With the new ones, I have hardly had any success with the indoor antennas; this was not the case with the older antenna that I had. So, will the old school antennas work or not? I thought I might go looking for one of those if they still worked...

@@AntennaMan Thank you so very much. I did watch that video just now and I understand. I used to have an RCA indoor plug-in antenna that had a big closed-in, circular dish in the middle and long rabbit ears to it. It could pick up channels 2, 4, 9, 11, and 27 in our tree infested-50-80 miles-from-any-stations area! I hope that I can find one or one similar, because it was the best antenna that I've or my family has ever owned besides the outdoor antennas...

Some of the antennas you present like the one you have there are so ridiculous that I would be really curious to know how it would measure with a network analyzer. Then you would be able to see exactly what the designer may have be thinking or is it just total BS. Do you have a nanoVNA or other piece of test equipment that you could use to show the viewers what is really going on with each antenna? Maybe it would be worth stepping up your game instead of just reporting the empirical results. Might also be possible to determine lobe shape and approx. gain for the somewhat directional antennas. Anyway, with the tiny little stub antenna you have there, I wonder if any impedance matching at all would have been done.

They might’ve had a strong signal. A paperclip with a few inches of aluminum foil on it (now 1-2 inches wide, and 3-4 inches long in total) will work better. The more more foil, the better.
