Hey guy I am glad you made some really good points. Back when the OTA stations went Digital I bought one of those indoor antennas which claimed a range of 25 miles. I was living less than 20 AIR MILES from DC. It didn't work at all. Now I live in western NC.,I am at least 100 miles from 4 major cities. I know for a fact that the 350 Mile range antenna won't work. As you said LOS means alot. I have mountains over 3000 feet above sea level. Sure if you live in a metro area they may work but not out in the boonies.
I am lucky I live in Phoenix Az and with a simple homemade antenna out of copper wire I get somewhere around 90 channels clear. Most are reruns and retro stations which is fine by me as the shows I like on it it. I run a Windows 7 computer with a tv tuner card as a dvr. Pbs and Me tv are my favorites and clear along with the major networks. I also run a small tuner I got off ebay which allows simple DVR functions and only cost 30 dollars. Adding a 128 gig usb thumb drive allows me to transfer Tv shows to my computer to watch later. For a cheap device it records as clear as the tv is on play back. Also the computer with the hd tv card records very clear also. For $30.00 I got one way to record and I already had a spare computer to repurpose as a dvr. Aside from electricity I pay $20.00 a year for a 2 week channel listing. I just found out about 4g lte and %g filters I will get one soon as I do live close to a 5 g tower. I used to pay $240.00 a month for cable and internet and a switch to T mobile dropped it to $55.00 a month and well the rest is almost free. The money I save feels very good.
I'll stick with my Phillips $12 loop antenna with VHF dipoles. The attached cable is cheap but it performs pretty well. If positioned correctly upstairs I can pick up 6abc marginally. Surprised since they're only 15 inch dipoles. We'll see how it works when I get it to the windows facing the towers.
I have the same antenna. I live 35 miles from my local broadcast stations and I can easily receive 80+ channels, especially the two stations that have high VHF signals, with the Philips antenna. I bought it after Tyler reviewed it. I have tried the Winegard flat antenna and was unable to receive the two VHF stations.
@Richard H. Shores It might be the the best indoor antenna based on price. There may be other antennas that can get better signal strength numbers on certain channels but they're not $12. It's not advertised as low VHF capable but I can pick up the 2 stations in my market that are low VHF with it, 2 and 6 which are actually 2 and 6 RF.
@@KevinT7274 I can pickup up my local CBS affiliate that broadcasts on VHF 5 from a fill-in transmitter on their tower that they use for their UHF 36 and my local NBC affiliate that broadcasts on VHF 10. I still cannot receive our local PBS station that broadcasts on VHF 7 because they broadcast with extremely low power. I have a Sony TV set that has a ATSC 3.0 tuner and I get excellent reception for all of the local stations that are also broadcasting in ATSC 3.0.
I bought a cheap one from amazon that suction cups to your window and it actually did pretty well. I think I only got 4 channels but 2 are the same with one being in HD.
Don't waste your money on buying an antenna. I tried several different models with varying results. Finally I found instructions for an antenna made out of cardboard, aluminum foil, wood glue and a cable transformer. It works perfectly. Picks up every station in my area with great picture quality
well for me i live in a condo and in most condo they do not let you to use any out door antennas at all so i like lot of others do not have this option to use any out door entennas at all like i have all ready siad we ware i live can ot even use any out side dish too, so the only two options we have is cable networks or indoors anennas only. so could you at lest do more videos about indoors antennas not jsut which one is better but all so how to improve them to be better would be great too.
I was so hoping I could watch my favorite football team's broadcast some 300 miles away. I guess I'll have to go for one of those 500 mile or 1,000 mile range antennas.
In your list of reputable antenna companies, i just want to add that "stellar labs" makes absolutely solid and well performing but inexpensive antennas. Their 30-2476 is an absolute VHF-Hi monster (the best available currently) and it's under 50 bucks. The only antenna that's been able to pull WOIO for me, a station 50 miles west of me, and I'm in a direction they null towards.. They also make an ant751 clone for about 25 bucks. They're no frills, no amps, just solid antennas for pretty cheap, and they deserve a spot on your list of reputable manufacturers in my opinion. They're making legitimately good no-frills antennas.
Thanks, I have found most indoor antennas, junk. I have cable TV but recieve my local news thru the air using a flat channel master antenna recieving about 7 local channels. It's adequate but would like to recieve a few channels from Portland Oregon about 160 miles away. Guess i'll have to fork out more money and subscribe to a few Portland channels thru my cable network.
I had a couple of those before i bought a real antenna. Pre amp and amp they gave me 3 channels. The real antenna gave me 72. I am about 40 miles from towers
350 miles? Oh look! It supports 8K TV! (sarcasm intended) Ha, ha! That indoor antenna looks more like a prehistoric shark tooth. Before cable TV was available in our area (before HDTV), we installed Channel Master's longest range antenna, along with a rotor. Low VHF reception was fuzzy picking up the then real channel 6 in Augusta, GA, from our home in Chapin, SC.
2:33-2:39 i found this seems to apply to even the more expensive antennas as well... they apparently just dont make RF amplifiers they used to (remember the amplifiers in the RFI-proof silver boxes from radioshack? wish they still made those...) .. had i known about these apparently useless amps it would have saved me serious $$$ ... ...late to the party but at least the living room finally gets all the channels glitch-free now...
This antenna at least in my experience wasn't bad for me. I don't know if it's due to the magnetic base it has but I stuck it on a DVD player that's metal and was able to pick up channels I never could get with any other indoor antenna. It picked up MeTV, Get, and NBC. I was shocked by that. For the $10 I payed for it. That's pretty good.
Thank you. A friend lives in California City, California, he doesn't have an antenna for his TV. Uses internet for news and entertainment,; That area is in a canyon, and doesn't do well on antennas of the past, hoped you could give me a band or two to experiment with ? I prefer the RV/camper antenna over most, on a pole, not the crank that they are sold with. Have you tested any of those types ?
I wish I could find an installer to put an antenna on my roof. We're old people, and no way are we fit to go up on a two story house. Back before everything went digital we use to get channels from Canada across Lake Erie. I've gotton two digital antennas so far, and I couldn't even pick up Cleveland 25 miles away while sitting with it on a playground tower.

I tried a few indoor antennas for my location in Queens near the north Long Island Border and all indoor antennas could not catch channels 9, 11 and 13 and sometimes channel 5 was lost. The only indoor antenna that worked for me to catch all the channels (tho 11 stil comes in slightly pixalated) is the 1 BY ONE indoor amplified antenna. It literally was the only indoor antenna that worked for me here in my area (if placed on window) - the power for the antenna boost does work since without it being pluged in I lost some channels. I have zero connection with that brand and am a genuine customer. I eventually installed the Antennas Direct Clearstream 4 TV outdoor antenna and that worked for me but that 1 BY ONE indoor antenna came in a close second to the outdoor antenna.
FOLLOW UP: For some reason (prob atmospherics ?) I am now losing WPIX 11 (only channel I lose) with my newly installed outdoor Antennas Direct Clearstream 4 (all other channels come in strong at 70-80% ) facing the proper direction to lower Manhattan antenna clusters south west fom me, but with my 1 BY ONE indoor amplified antenna facing the opposite direction (east) by the window (literally stuck on window-move to a table loses signal) is getting channel 11, tho with some pixellation. I think the 1 BY ONE's wide rectangle design helps. I am using the outdoor antenna with my TV 's tuner and the indoor antenna connected to a separate Homeworx tuner connected to one of my TV's spare hdmi ports when I want to watch WPIX. I have no connections with these antennas just a user. I would love a review by you just to confirm how this works. YOUR ADVICE HELPED ME CUT THE CORD. THANKS!
I have found that local TV stations generally do a poor job regarding using an antenna to receive their OTA signal and why consumers get ripped off buying junk instead of a good antenna. I feel that they don't care because they are raking in money from retransmission fees from cable companies and streaming TV carriers. I am still perplexed how many people think you cannot use an antenna to receive local TV OTA for free.
Any antenna would work if your signal is line of sight, during solar storms, back before digital, I used to love TV DXing, from the Caribbean I used to pick up Stations blasting crystal clear sometimes, by signals reflecting from the ionization. also DX on UHF with meteor scatter.
From the thumbnail I thought this was a Megalodon tooth and that a new scientific study found the sharks used their teeth as sonar antennas to track down prey. True story.
I get irritated by duplicate channels more than anything. We do have some solar interference at times of day though, so occasionally the duplicates do come in better.
As soon as I saw "350+ miles" I knew I did not want to watch this...CUZ THIS WAS GOING TO BE ONE OF THEM JUNK ANTENNAS. But in all honesty, I still want an indoor antenna...maybe that Channel Master you reviewed weeks ago might work.
I had free TV for 9 years 66 channel from Chicago I'm in Indiana northwest me Love Free TV me my older antenna. RCA one and rabbit ears are great yes METV too
That doesn't look like a childs toy, it looks like one of those adult "toys" A lot of those preamps are noisy not due to the preamp circuit itself, but are usually noisy due to the power source you're feeding it, most of those cheap switch mode power supplies that come with those cheap antennas are very noisy and pump it all into the preamp circuit.
Well. It looks like the FCC could do something to put a stop to the exaggerated ranges that these antenna makers claim. If nothing else Amazon and Ebay could put a stop to it.
I have a cabin in northern Wisconsin. What brand/ kind of antenna would you recommend for something so remote? I used to get 5 channels before they went digital, now I get none.
Do the solar flares affect tv reception? Some channels that are usually rock solid have been tileing quite a bit on some days. I know it can affect amiture radio. Thanks for any information you can provide.
Hey Tyler, I bet this seller must live on top of Mt Everest to get that kind of Range. Or he is a Flat Earther person. LOL. Realistically, I am lucky to get 30-40 miles range with my ClearStream 2Max indoor antenna facing out my patio window in the Chicago area. I guess the guy will put anything in his ads to try and sell the product. I saw 4k and 8k mentioned. And he also might have buddies post good reviews thinking this is a great product. Thanks for the review.
These things are always made in foreign countries. It feels like the same people who run call centers in India are trying to scam people with these antennas. If you notice on some of these postings on Amazon there are spelling errors meaning the poster cannot type and speak normal English. False range claims especially those up to 350+ miles are a dead giveaway that the antenna is complete garbage. I hate scammers.
So glad I watched this. I thought I wanted an antenna. Who tf would go through all this trouble just to watch nbc and abc? The 4 channels you get with an antenna are the worst channels on tv. This is ridiculous to even do. Thanks.
Hi Sir I have a very long UHF & VHF out side aerial Antenna & worked really well to until the angle reflector mesh rusted away & had to take it down & the rest of the Antenna is still up there & yet the rest of the aerial anter is fine & what would you recommend in making a New mesh reflector out of copper or Aluminum & what would you prefer making a New reflector instead of buying a New TV Antenna as they are quite expensive to buy new TV Antennas or just save up & buy a new TV Antenna & I was thinking of buying a New indoor Antenna but as you say that you don't recommend using these cheap indoor Antennas & I would buy a New deplexer to hook up the new RG6 Coaxial cable to the deplexer Kind Regards Peter PS if cannot one part that goes with my antenna which I don't think I've got & I will have a look in the garage & if I can't find 1 I will most likely have to buy a New a Naw antenna anyway
The antenna itself can of course do 350 mile range when the signal would be transmitted from a low-orbit satellite. But such signals are not transmitted from satellites. And in realistic situations (transmission from a tower) it will be limited by the curvature of the earth, not the antenna. This kind of specification is the result of "competition". When seller A inflates their specs a bit, seller B has to go over that to get their sales back. And this continues until the specifications become ridiculous. This is very common in the antenna world. Not only the range, but also the gain figures are usually bogus.
I worked in electronics maintenance in the military for 20 years (Radio Frequency Communications and Propagation), worked as a television station engineer with a First Class Radiotelephone FCC Licensee for years. These advertisements for mini antennas being able to pick up television signals from a hundreds of miles or more away are simply lies. If you want to get a signal from that distance, you will need to stream it, period. I do not want you to waste your money. These antennas work alright in areas where you are less than 50 miles from the transmitter depending on obstructions such as mountains and buildings.
Illinois, California, and a few other states prohibit Amazon from shipping the converter box because of some state regulation about RF interference that makes no sense.
@@AntennaMan Really? I would think the FCC would take a dim view of a State attempting to pre-empt FCC regulations. Some States try that years ago with Wi-Fi (e.g., prohibiting Wi-Fi use at the airport because the airport administrators wanted the bands for themselves). The FCC smacked them down in no uncertain terms.
I'm carious can you explain that a radio/tv station only transmits for a radius of 100 miles and you are 200 miles from that transmitting station what good is a 300 mile antenna????????

All over the Air broadcast are high definition if you have basic cable it's not in high definition
Don't waste your money on buying an antenna. I tried several different models with varying results. Finally I found instructions for an antenna made out of cardboard, aluminum foil, wood glue and a cable transformer. It works perfectly. Picks up every station in my area with great picture quality
If I splice two together will I get 700 miles ?
Depends if you hook them up in series or parallel. If you do it wrong you will only get a range of 175 miles.😂
YES!
well for me i live in a condo and in most condo they do not let you to use any out door antennas at all so i like lot of others do not have this option to use any out door entennas at all like i have all ready siad we ware i live can ot even use any out side dish too, so the only two options we have is cable networks or indoors anennas only. so could you at lest do more videos about indoors antennas not jsut which one is better but all so how to improve them to be better would be great too.
My smart TV automatically put the outside antenna digital channels into the vizio programming grid on the TV! Scary!
They're making legitimately good no-frills antennas.
they make a deep fringe uhf only yagi antenna with 3 beams on it. 30-2415
Looks like if Amazon Echo came out with a shark fin version.
I had a couple of those before i bought a real antenna. Pre amp and amp they gave me 3 channels. The real antenna gave me 72. I am about 40 miles from towers
On the plus side, it's multi-use.
Looks like something you would buy at an adult toy store lol
Always really great and informative videos!
Your recommendation was spot on for me with the antenna you recommended and my location !
It was worth the expense for your expertise ! 👍
Great to hear! Thanks again for signing up for my antenna recommendation service.
350 miles? Oh look! It supports 8K TV! (sarcasm intended)
Ha, ha!
They should really consider a different shape for that antenna.....
Common antenna man W
This antenna at least in my experience wasn't bad for me. I don't know if it's due to the magnetic base it has but I stuck it on a DVD player that's metal and was able to pick up channels I never could get with any other indoor antenna. It picked up MeTV, Get, and NBC. I was shocked by that. For the $10 I payed for it. That's pretty good.
I thought when I saw the Thumbnail surely he's not starting to review sex toys. LOL
I don't get why they look like this!
Yeah my first thought too
@@AntennaManthey jumped the shark with this antenna design
Let's cut to the chase, what indoor tv antenna did you find works the best
The thumbnail is a perfect meme that would be titled “Contemplating H. P. Lovecraft Sex”.
Thank you.
A friend lives in California City, California, he doesn't have an antenna for his TV.
Uses internet for news and entertainment,;
That area is in a canyon, and doesn't do well on antennas of the past, hoped you could give me a band or two to experiment with ?
I prefer the RV/camper antenna over most, on a pole, not the crank that they are sold with.
Have you tested any of those types ?
For the whole 15 bucks I paid for it, it works great. abc, NBC , & CBS
You are in a very strong signal area then as the antenna does not work well at all. I bet a paperclip would pick up these channels too.
Go to maps.google.com and search "antenna installation near Cleveland" and you'll find some.
is that an antanae that you plug into an electric plug too get the amplified signal if not then it is not a true amplified antenae i know this i have an antenae that i plug into an electric plug and it the antane says its a powered amplified antea and mine goes 150 miles with plugged in to electric plug and with out it being plugged in to a plug it only get 25 miles ,so is that a poewerd ampliflyer or not ,be specific and tell me if you have to plug it in to gain the 350 mile radius or if it does not havde a powered plug in amplifier ???
Can you review the ANTOP AT-221BV?
The case is also used for a odd color changing mood light....just with translucent plastic...
Did you re scan after hooked it up to TV, cause you should always do that with new indoor or outdoor antenna
Can you do some RV antenna reviews? All RV's have antennas. Any improvement then the stock would be great.
THANKS!
Folow up: the weather cooled down and now my outdoor antenna can get channels 11 WPIX etc again so it was not rain related but heat related
Tyler, you could replace the impact sound within a funny car crash sound effect, when you smash a junk antenna to the ground
Sir, you have been a breath of fresh air
So long as it's got HD then it's good enough for me!
True story.
I need an antenna that can receive a good signal for all the local OTA channels my city offers 😄♥️♥️👌
I get irritated by duplicate channels more than anything. We do have some solar interference at times of day though, so occasionally the duplicates do come in better.
You had mentioned a Federal Law restricting HOA's for outdoor antennas under 1 meter. I couldn't find that link.
First piece of electronics my wife ever liked oh she found the best spot for it... 🤣
Hi Tyler. Thank you for your work. What antenna for zip 32958. I have an older metal mobile home? Thank you, Franklin
I like the part when you dropped ( tossed? threw? ) that antenna on the floor. did it still worked after this? or did it break into a zillion pieces??
Smash it!!!!
I had free TV for 9 years 66 channel from Chicago I'm in Indiana northwest me
Love Free TV me my older antenna. RCA one and rabbit ears are great yes METV too
Looks like someone would find a use for it if it doesn’t pick up many channels.
That doesn't look like a childs toy, it looks like one of those adult "toys"
A lot of those preamps are noisy not due to the preamp circuit itself, but are usually noisy due to the power source you're feeding it, most of those cheap switch mode power supplies that come with those cheap antennas are very noisy and pump it all into the preamp circuit.
😂😂😂
Well. Im in Indiana off 80/94 and 65 highways I get Joliet that's like 50 miles plus away from me I got older RCA antenna in my window I get 66 channel free have been for 9 years free free from Valparaiso to Lake Station to Hobart Indiana !! I get all Chicago channels but not channel 2 nope and get Joliet too So my 60 miles range antenna doing great also got rabbit ears on chair outside for smaller TV 32 inch one !! I have to scan alot me !!
But mine work great from Walmart store in TV Section free free and METV too ...
would a general electric classify as an okay antenna to use? i see them at DG alot
How about just sticking a 6-foot piece of wire into the antenna jack? (Works for me!)
Here's a comment... which I've heard is helpful, eh?

Off subject but do you ever do anything with 10 meter or UHF & VHF ?
Nope, I strictly review consumer TV antennas and accessories for my UA-cam channel.
That doesn't look like an indoor antenna...
It looks like an *internal* antenna!
I can imagine the husband yelling, "Honey, could you stop using that? I need to watch TV". heee heee
Do the solar flares affect tv reception? Some channels that are usually rock solid have been tileing quite a bit on some days. I know it can affect amiture radio. Thanks for any information you can provide.
See video below: ua-cam.com/video/BYuDBL3-duI/v-deo.html
I'd like to see an update on the color-chart...
I determined I need a Purple (no mater what ) since I live 72 miles from the towers.
I know the chart you're referring to. Televes still uses it.
Thanks for the quantitative reviews! That antennae looks like it was designed by Sea World.
I hate scammers.
um so my analog tv just picked up a singnal on channel 7 it seems to bee some sort of news channle it's in huntville and madison alabama
That thing looks like a air freshener you put in your toilet’s water tank! 😂😂😂
are you in the poconos or at higher elevation?
I was able to receive Google and Apple with this antenna
😲 🤪 😂
Nice video, thanks for the review and info. But not sure why I keep hearing "Andorian Tenna"
THANKS

Hi antenna man
Is there a new antenna that gets low vhf that has a small profile?
Good video. Why are some areas prohibited from buying the Homeworx tuner?
Illinois, California, and a few other states prohibit Amazon from shipping the converter box because of some state regulation about RF interference that makes no sense.
@@AntennaMan Really? I would think the FCC would take a dim view of a State attempting to pre-empt FCC regulations. Some States try that years ago with Wi-Fi (e.g., prohibiting Wi-Fi use at the airport because the airport administrators wanted the bands for themselves). The FCC smacked them down in no uncertain terms.
I think even if the flat earthers were on to something this antenna wouldn't cut it.
Outdoor antenna is only way to go
Yes, that is true for most areas.
I'm carious can you explain that a radio/tv station only transmits for a radius of 100 miles and you are 200 miles
from that transmitting station what good is a 300 mile antenna????????
