Love the video Joel! Thanks for visiting our booth and telling our story! You're 100% correct, that bust isn't the best it could be! To make as many 3D scans as possible during the 48hrs of the con we sped up our production dramatically, which sacrificed print quality. If folks watching this video are interested in seeing more videos of the Orchard in action make sure to follow our company on Twitter or IG!

I agree with the quality, I was one of the folks at the con that paid for the scanning/printing of my face. Although it wasn't a quality print I would have thought it would be, it was still fun and cool to see. I wish you would have given the option to send via email an STL of my scanned face so I could print it at home.

this is a hard sell seeing how these probably cost as much if not more than creality per printer, but I also get that they are trying to sell a platform (IE software makes it easy to push prints to multiple printers). I just hope they have thought about ease of repair/adjusting since these are being sold to stores with employees that are probably not skilled. From what I see the print quality doesn't look great yet either (even some of the benchy's mid-print were having issues).

That is a great idea for applications such as that art store. Or studios/schools where basic 3D design is being learned. I’m sure they will continue to refine these machines. But for places with limited space and or power, one machine that can do 14 different projects at once is a better solution than 14 different machines.
This is obviously not for individuals. It’s for makerspaces that encourage learning and making. Thing is these spaces could use this for prototyping then the final product on a machine that can produce higher quality.

The build plates mounted at an angle effect overhang. I wonder if they use a special slicer that takes care of this. That could be a cause for the low quality in the face of the print. Just mounting the printers flat could take care of that.

Yeah, let's be blunt. The referenced printed model is not good at all. And for something you'd want at home or office, no, this is not it. And I appreciate Joel being kind because his opinion does carry weight in this community.
What I think is at stake here is that the idea of a stripped down, modular approach to print farming. It does print; the concept is proven. And it approaches it with low-fi solutions (e.g. multiple COM ports) which work and doesn't demand new tooling or esoteric components. And having problems with one unit doesn't bring the whole thing down to repair time. I know Itemfarm said they would then look at plastic recycling then CNC, but right now, they should be focusing on making the printing faster and better quality. They can partner with other ventures, selling the modular snap-in concept. So I think once they have the necessary improvements added, then yes, this should be the 3D printing community's One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) concept.

I must admit that I fail to understand the niche you're trying to fill. Basically from what I understand (at least at the moment) it's a frame that holds ender 3s and a USB Hub.
(I know those are not E3s, that's juat figuratively to point out that I fail to see any synergies between the printer units or power supply)
Also, I fail to understand how that rack is anything more suitable for solar power than an E3
Now I'm genuinely not trying to give you flak, I want to understand where the business proposition lies here and what a customer gets from the orchard (despite the looks and the slightly reduced room requirements due to the stacking) over just buying 14 Ender 3s?

It definitely has its place if PLA is okay. Realistically if this is intended for areas with intermittent power or underdeveloped nations, they probably need to make functional parts. As these will likely need to be either food-safe and/or UV resistant, you need a machine with heated bed, heated enclosure, and higher performance hotend. This is not an inexpensive or low power machine. It's an unfortunate catch-22.
