HI FRIENDS, I hope you enjoy the first installment of Ocarina of Time!! It was so cool to see how much excitement there was on the comments of the update video yesterday. I think this is gonna be pretty special :) episode 2 will drop on Monday at 11am!
Just to give you an idea of how groundbreaking that game was. The whole "lock on" system, or z-targeting in this game, this game didn't just use what was popular at the time. This is the FIRST game that ever had a lock-on sword fight style. Some older games had lock on for stuff like projectiles and such, but this combat method which is used even now in modern gaming, for example in fromsoft games, was absolutely new at the time.. This is one of many things that this game brought to the gaming industry, its influence even today is completely insane. Also, why am I not surprised that there was a deku seed/deku nut joke in there.
I always find it hard to understand what about old games made them so revolutionary because im coming from a perspective where the things they did have become the norm that I grew up with. So thank you for giving this information
@@Emperorhirohito19272 This was basically Ye Olde Elden Ring lol. THE WAY I LITERALLY SAID "NO FUCKING WAY!!!" OUT LOUD WHEN I SAW THIS VIDEO!!!! This was, until BotW/TotK, my favorite LoZ title. Can't wait to watch the whole series!!!
Wonderful! I love this game. It is worth noting (and this is absolutely not a spoiler of any kind, no worries Ryan) that this game was meant to be viewed on an old CRT television so the contrast between backgrounds and 3d, and the edges of the 3d models were often just slightly blurrier. It holds up pretty well on HD, but just, forgive this old game it's artifacting.
Blessed be the rom patches, high-res textures pack, and convenient flexibility of emulation. It makes the whole experience way more palatable for younger audiences.
Holy fuckin shit. It’s time. This was the first video game I ever played. I was born in 2001 and I couldn’t have been more than 6 years old. I have the most comforting childhood memories of firing up my n64 and just running around the forest, thinking of all the endless possibilities. You’re right in your assumption, this was not only the first 3D Zelda game but one of the first 3D games in general (if I’m remembering it right) This was the game that truly sparked my love for video games. To see you playing the n64 version makes it even more surreal. Ryan. Without sounding too weird, you’re one of my favorite content creators dude. Ever since I was scrolling through Subnautica videos and decided to give your playthrough a try, I’ve respected and admired the way you analyze and process as much lore as you can with every game you play. I can’t even describe how excited I am for you to dive into this game. Thank you so much for just being you and for loving games. You’re a really cool guy and I’ll be looking forward to every video of this game you post until you inevitably finish. It couldn’t be more perfect that this will be the first game I genuinely follow along with you as you post and not just binge a serious you’ve already mostly/totally completed. You’re seriously in for a phenomenal experience man. Again, THANK YOU and KEEP BEING YOU!!!!
I remember my neighbor coming home with this sick golden cartridge saying we needed to play this game, I was immediately hooked. I was also 6 at the time. Just a beautiful experience as a kid (and an adult too, but my goodness this was such a perfect adventure game for kids).
Yes this is infact the first 3D Zelda game. And it is also the first 3D game to *ever* feature an npc / enemy targeting system. Nintendo invented that for this game.
It’s so funny seeing Ryan experience all these things as “new”, when I think of him as a Zelda fan. I never thought about how he hadn’t actually played a traditional Zelda yet!

Welcome to one of the games that brought 3D to the world! Hearkening back to the days when mood and mystery defined an adventure game. Though rough around its low-poly edges, OOT will always be a classic.
Wow, it’s been a hot minute since Ive watched one of your playthroughs. And let me just say, in a medium dominated by performative cruelty, your genuine kindness and quick wit are so refreshing. Will definitely be carving out time to watch this one as it comes out. Hope you enjoy this gem of a game as much as I did 25 years ago!
Yess! This is going to be so fun!! 😄 Ocarina of Time is charming in its own weird way! 😆 Can't wait to see you discover everything the game has to offer!
I'm so stoked for this playthrough! OOT is probably my second favorite game. My brother and I rented the game a few times and had to experience what I see others in the comments did, having to restart the game multiple times since our save was locked on the cartridge we rented. When Majora's Mask came out, we faced the same problem that we couldn't find it in stores, so we had to rent it to play it. This time was different because we decided to continually renew the rental until we were able to buy the game, then we switched the new cartridge with the rental cartridge so we could keep our save files! I'm pretty sure the person who rented the game before us did the same thing because the cart was missing the barcode sticker that was on all the other games we rented.
I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW EXCITED I AM FOR YOU TO PLAY MY FAVORITE CHILDHOOD GAME. I know I am not unique in this excitement but nevertheless, I need you to know. Here we gooooooo
Yay Ocarina of time! My first introduction to my lifelong love of this game series. Many memories watching my brother play this and then playing myself later on. Looking forward to this!
I'm so stoked for this series! Do you truly know nothing about the story or game? If not, you're in for a treat. I dearly hope there are NO SPOILERS for you 😃. I'd love to see this game played like it's 1998 all over again. I was 19 when the game released. I got the gold collector's edition and played it my sophomore year of college, mostly over Christmas break. I was a bit older, but still consider this my last "childhood" Zelda game. Sorta... I was 13 when LttP released and this game made me feel like a kid again for a couple weeks. We had to wait 6 years for the 4th major home console version of Zelda. In the 2000s it felt like new Zelda was hitting constantly, but OoT was incredibly highly anticipated.
36:56 nooooooooo I cried as you ran away from the Z hole….. I thought for sure you would try it once you read the sign next to it!! 😂😂 So excited for this play through, the nostalgia is strong and I know you’re going to discover absolutely everything
Very excited to be able to follow your journey in a new Zelda game. Currently rewatching your botw playthrough which meant alot to me during tough times. Thank you for being a such a kind and positive soul out here. Alll the best from Sweden
ooh yay, was not expecting this! I hope it holds up. I still love this game but I fully admit I have nostalgia goggles for it. I first played it on N64 at my friend's house when I was a kid.
I really love how well this Kokiri Forest area does to train a new player. There's a surprising amount of stuff to be learned in such a small area, and seeing Ryan pick up the basics that quickly and simply is a testiment to this starting area.
I only started to play the game for the first time a few days ago, and my initial reaction is the opposite: almost none of the teaching is organic, it's a series of infodumps. 😕
Instant subscribe!! Great reaction. Love to see reactors really get into how ahead of it’s time this game is. Too many start playing it and then just make fun of it their whole playthrough which really turns people off who come to watch these for the nostalgia and love of the game
@@SacredLiquidI love this controller, especially considering when it came out. It was a great blend of the controls that came before it (SNES D-pad, shoulder buttons, 4-button cluster) with added capabilities (analog stick, trigger button, two more buttons in the 4-button cluster). It crawled so others could run.
@@SacredLiquid It can be SOOO awkward playing OoT/MM on non-N64 layouts too, that particular A/B/C layout was so crucial to the game's ergonomic design.
Anyone who's actually played a N64 game understands how the controller works. It was made when most console games were switching from the D-Pad to the analog stick but some games were still being made for the D-Pad instead. The left prong had a D-Pad and shoulder trigger while the middle prong had an analog stick and underneath trigger. You used one. There isn't a single game that used both. It's a well designed controller that gets shit on by people who don't understand context.
Monday can't come soon enough! I'll be looking forward to each episode, what a great cult game. And yes it's a bit clunky and overwhelming, as every genre inventing game is, but you're doing way better than I did ^_^
This playthrough comes at the perfect time for me since I just finished your BOTW playthrough in its entirety! So excited to be here from the start this time!!! :)
I am so SO happy this is the next game you went with from the series. Very canon millennial Zelda experience. ❤ Edit: barring the botw time travel i guess 😂 forgot you played that one first for a second
Ahh my favorite thing in the world, a blind playthrough of OoT :3 I am so glad you popped up on my feed. I will have to go watch you other Zelda playthroughs! Love the energy and prepared to laugh and cry in pain (affectionately) as you work your way through this game and fight inverted controls. I played so many of these games as a kid I actually can't play un-inverted controls haha. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us, looking forward to future updates!
I'm back here the next day too because I realise I cannot wait 3 whole days between each episode of this lmao. And to answer your question : I'm one of those kids who was lucky enough to play this back around when it came out (2000 ish) as both my parents played it in the house when I was around 5 years old, my sisters and I all watched them play it I have vivid memories of this game being like a family movie night lmao. Then after my parents, we all played it 1 by 1 in the house and had hours of fun. The music is ingrained in my brain talk about core memories haha. Love to see you play this!

I am ashamed to say that even tho this was my first zelda game i never actually finished it... 😭 Not because it was bad, on the contrary it was amazing but because i was very young and got stuck without knowing what to do, and since english was not my first language and i had not started learning yet, 6 year old me never finished it. BUT i still have my DS with the game maybe its time now😌 Annyways sorry for the yap enjoy the amazing playthrough .
i have started playing this game ( ok i mean watching my big brother play it and giving more of less helpful suggestions ) when i was 4, i have finished the game in my own full playthrough when i was 22. sometimes it just takes time haha
It's so interesting seeing Ryan at the start of a new game, learning its language as he plays. Ocarina of Time is a particularly unique one for that, since it was such an early 3D game that the norms for teaching how to move through a space and what you can do weren't established yet. Really enjoyed watching this!
i was 15 when this came out, and my parents took me to the midnight release, it came out just before thanksgiving and i played it all thanksgiving break
This entire video was how I spent so much time as a kid doing exactly what you were doing. This is deeply nostalgic in a way that other playthroughs of this aren't, because you're replicating the experience of not knowing a damn thing about the game. Very excited for the rest of this.
I’m so excited for this! I found your BotW play through around a month ago and I’m still going through that, but this one is special to me, before I could even hold a controller I watched my brother play this, I knew better than to play this immediately and waited until I had some experience playing games first, I can’t wait for you to discover how incredible this game is, and all the surprises that it brings
Ocarina of Time is my childhood game and one of my favourite things is seeing people discover it for the first time. I hope you enjoy your time in it and talk to NPCs and just get involved in the story. I won't be spoiling anything! I have really fond memories of me and my dad renting this game from Blockbuster over and over again slowly working through it.
I want to be clear that as usual, I'm not here for progress; I'm here for the reactions, thoughts, and experiences. Reliving the first time vicariously. So I'm super glad you're taking your time and I genuinely don't care if there's entire videos with zero progress. You do you, that's why I'm here!

The first time I played - yesterday! When I saw your channel update I knew I'd want to watch, but didn't want to get spoiled haha. It's been sitting on my shelf for almost a year, about time I played. I'm playing the 3ds version. I agree, it's super nostalgic, even though I've never played it before. Weird how that works, isn't it?

I played this game when it first came out on N64 and it was our first real gaming console. I had only ever played at friends houses or cousins and Ocarina of Time is where my brother and I became fully obsessed. This game will always be the GOAT in my heart, so stoked to watch you get into it and I hope that Megan tries it out too
AAAA another zelda ocarina of time playthrough I can watch!
You’re right in your assumption, this was not only the first 3D Zelda game but one of the first 3D games in general (if I’m remembering it right)
This was the game that truly sparked my love for video games.
This comment
Yes this is infact the first 3D Zelda game. And it is also the first 3D game to *ever* feature an npc / enemy targeting system. Nintendo invented that for this game.
It’s so funny seeing Ryan experience all these things as “new”, when I think of him as a Zelda fan. I never thought about how he hadn’t actually played a traditional Zelda yet!
Questioning the skull kids as potential yiga clan, SENT me. 😂
@@rjenyawd why?
@@David-bf2cg because Breath of the Wild instilled yiga paranoia in him?
@@rjenyawd I meant more why as in "I haven't played breath of the wild".
Also you are really beautiful btw. If that's you on the profile picture of course.
@@David-bf2cgI haven't played BotW either, but from what I've gathered, they seem to be like an evil tribe of Sheikah. Their symbol is the Sheikah symbol upside-down. Don't take my word as fact, though. Like I said, I haven't played BotW either.
27:35 "Where is Mido's toilet? I am gonna take a dump in his toilet.", lmfao.
Mido's toilet can be found in the DLC 😂
Christmas truly came early with this playthrough! Super stoked to see you dive back into the world of Zelda, Ryan!! Your play style is my favorite 😊
place your bets now: is Ryans daughters first word going to be Hey, Look or Listen?
Your Zelda play throughs are my favorite thing on youtube....LETS GOOOOOO
Ryan! This is my first time watching a playthrough live as you play it on the channel (and not binge watching all the episodes after the fact) and I’m so excited! Can’t wait to watch you experience it blind!
Welcome to one of the games that brought 3D to the world! Hearkening back to the days when mood and mystery defined an adventure game. Though rough around its low-poly edges, OOT will always be a classic.
Crying in the club already just hearing the opening screen music...this is gonna be a beautiful nostalgic journey 🥲
Yes! Been looking forward to this one, I love your Zelda play-style Ryan 👌 Slow and thorough ❤
So excited for this play through, the nostalgia is strong and I know you’re going to discover absolutely everything
Super excited about this. Your attention to detail is really going to pay off.
@@andrewgwilliam4831 The infodumps were for people who couldn't pick up on it.
You’re gonna love this one! 😊
Instant subscribe!! Great reaction. Love to see reactors really get into how ahead of it’s time this game is. Too many start playing it and then just make fun of it their whole playthrough which really turns people off who come to watch these for the nostalgia and love of the game
If you asked me before watching the channel update what game I wanted you to play this is what I would have said. Really exited for this playthrough!
Yay, Ocarina of Time! I hope you enjoy! I already can't wait for the next episode.
yes the controller it was meant to be played with!
Lol, N64 controller be like: I don't know what to do with my hands!
Most hated controller, but the games that were designed around it worked so well you almost forget that you don't have 3 hands lmao
And yes it's a bit clunky and overwhelming, as every genre inventing game is, but you're doing way better than I did ^_^
This is the best Holiday gift ever!!! I hope you enjoy this game!
This playthrough comes at the perfect time for me since I just finished your BOTW playthrough in its entirety! So excited to be here from the start this time!!! :)
I'm so happy you're playing this game. One of the best Zelda games in the series and I can't wait to see someone get to see it all for the first time.
Finally! Cant wait to watch you experience a traditional Zelda game!
I've waited for this moment for... I'm not sure since when, but I'm excited to watch your journey!! ❤❤
OMG YESSS MORE ZELDA my prayers have been answered!
Super exciting. Watched with Fiance as we chowed down on some Jimmy Johns
I am so SO happy this is the next game you went with from the series. Very canon millennial Zelda experience. ❤ Edit: barring the botw time travel i guess 😂 forgot you played that one first for a second
Ocarina has some of the BEST music!
Yes! You're back! Can't wait to watch you play this adventure. Good luck, and have fun, Ryan!
I think you are the only person that spent an hour in that section and I love it
Love that you're making your way through the Zelda games! Can't wait for when you get to Skyward Sword.
Thw confusion over getting lost in the Lost Woods is fantastic 😂
Yess! I´m so happy and excited. Thank you so much for this Ryan.
Oh, wow! I can take a break from your Satisfactory videos that I like if it means a blind playthrough of one of my favorite childhood games! Looking forward to the series, and I hope youtube coments play nice and no one spoils anything. Have fun!
I am ashamed to say that even tho this was my first zelda game i never actually finished it... 😭
Not because it was bad, on the contrary it was amazing but because i was very young and got stuck without knowing what to do, and since english was not my first language and i had not started learning yet, 6 year old me never finished it.
BUT i still have my DS with the game maybe its time now😌
Annyways sorry for the yap enjoy the amazing playthrough .
i have started playing this game ( ok i mean watching my big brother play it and giving more of less helpful suggestions ) when i was 4, i have finished the game in my own full playthrough when i was 22. sometimes it just takes time haha
In the same boat. Played the 3DS version on my 3DS, never finished it.
Woow, same here. Started playig when I was 7, got stuck and scared of some enemies so I left it. 😅
I finished it when I was like 20
I love this playthough in every way. the exploring an the complete wonder and unknown about everything i really hope no one spoils anything for you.
I love watching people play this game for the first time. It may be a little dated but the game still holds up as one of the greatest ever made.
I'm so excited too 😊
This game blew my 7 year old mind back in the day. Definitely a cornerstone in my childhood, can’t wait to watch you experience this classic

This is taking me back to Christmas in 1998! What a lovely gift to watch you experience this with the same excitement and joy I felt 26 years later 🥰
This is exciting! I have so many fond memories of playing this game with my grandma and I'm always curious to see what people think when they don't have the nostalgia factor to fall back on. This is one of my all time favorite games and is definitely highly regarded, I hope you have fun!
Hey listen!
thank you Ryan for providing even more content to put on the big screen while I draw in my sketchbook or ipad
So excited! This is actually one of the later zelds games I played, I had my own blind playthrough about a year ago. Excited to see you play it!
I am so stoked you're playing this. One of my all time favorite games. It's so funny watching first time playthroughs... frustrating. I just yell at the screen like are Simpson at clouds, but so satisfying when you succeed
I was sooooo excited when I saw that you had posted this 😆 I was born in 93 and my uncle gifted me his Nintendo 64 when he left to go travelling along with this game. I grew up with this and got stuck many times haha It's such a good one
YESSS i am here for this!!
i am also SO here for Ryan getting stuck in figuring out how to use the cursor to select the shield. this series will be a thing of beauty and discovery 😂
Very excited to see someone play this!
I'm so happy to watch you play this! This was my first zelda game, I'm pretty sure we got it the year it came out so I was 12, or maybe 13
Enjoy yourself, experiment, observe well, think outside the box.. well you already do all that so it's perfect ❤
I played this game when it first came out on N64 and it was our first real gaming console. I had only ever played at friends houses or cousins and Ocarina of Time is where my brother and I became fully obsessed. This game will always be the GOAT in my heart, so stoked to watch you get into it and I hope that Megan tries it out too
This is my third fav game of all time, its the game I play when I want to feel nostalgic and its the game that got me into gaming.
Oh, I love watching people discovering my favorite game for the first time.
Excited to see more zelda!
So fun. The start screen music immediately transports me to another reality.
AAAA another zelda ocarina of time playthrough I can watch! Every time you come out with a new blind playthrough of a game I thoroughly enjoy, I get so excited to watch and look forward to the uploads. I think its so cool how you are playing the original rather than the 3DS version, I know you will enjoy the game so have tons of fun.
So glad you’re playing this!
I suspect some of the warmth you feel playing this is the memories being triggered of this era of gaming. Even having not played this particular game, I think for those of us older, just the style of gameplay sends us back to our childhood of gaming.
When I tell you I SCREAMED!!! This is MY FREAKING GAME!!!! I’M SO FREAKING EXCITED LETS GOOOOOOOOOO
💙💙💙
I am beyond happy you’re playing this game!!! When I saw this video I quite literally jumped for joy. You playing Zelda games is so happiness inducing, I can’t wait to see how you like ocarina of time!!
