This is great to hear from a hurler or any sports athelete. Canning is honest, articulate and not afraid to speak his mind. As a Galway man, it will be a sad, sad day when he leaves the county stage but he such an inspiration to so many kids and hurling fans in general that I'm sure he has a great future in the game should he chose to go down the management/pundit path

Joe your the best hurler for Galway since Tony Keady(RIP) you have nothing to regret you have pulled Galway over the line so many times this year and you nearly did it again in the All Ireland, we as Galweegans are so proud of you, here's to 2019

Canning King of Kings! The goal in 2012 against the best fullback line ever to play the game was the best ever in Croke Park.

He’s right. Scoring 2-12 set the bar too high for him. He’s only human

I am delighted to have been alive and watched this man play. One of the greatest gaa players of all time. We will be talking about him when we are all old.

I get it, it's a lot of pressure, but sometimes I wish he had a bigger ego. A killer instinct that says I will dominate and get that 2-12 again.

Who knows. If he was a different character, less humble, he might not have been the same player either. What you can say for sure is he was a phenomenal player.

The most overated hurler ever, all ways fell short in all ireland finals, cant sprint, cannot solo with a ball, cannot win a ball in open play you have to put it in his hand, looks good against weak teams but put him against tommy walsh tyrell or john gardner and his yellowness shows true a true glory seeker.
