The story of why I build garden chairs.
Now it's done. The chair is finished! And I can tell you a little secret... It's also super comfortable!
The larch wood is soft and comfortable and you can sit on this chair for a long time. I'm happy every time I sit down.
When we moved to Portugal a while ago, it was clear that there would be lots of terraces and places to sit outside. Because who would have thought it, it's just very warm here for a long time. But not all garden furniture is the same. I quickly discovered that plastic furniture, exposed to the strong sun, disintegrates on its own (I'm serious).
And wasps like to nest in such holey plastic furniture.
So another solution was needed.
Metal chairs are sturdy, but in my opinion you always need a cushion to sit on. And when it comes to the cushions, things get special very quickly. Because not every material is pleasant, isn't it?
As we have a great opportunity here in the region to get European wood that is certified sustainably logged and reforested, I wanted to build a chair out of wood.
I wanted to find out if it was the opportunity I was looking for.
Now that I had convinced myself, I wanted to create and manufacture even more furniture. My own collection.
Furniture is something wonderful. It makes "living" possible. And beautiful, hand-made furniture that is passed down and preserved from generation to generation is an incredible gift. An honorable gift and always a bit of history.
My wish, starting with this video series, is to show you that if you have the desire, time and a few tools at hand, you can build simple furniture yourself.

Over time I will publish further video series that include the construction of other furniture, such as a garden table to match this chair. But also many other designs. I already have lots of ideas;))
