  • Dr. Jordan Rogers continues preaching through The Book of Genesis in this sermon on Genesis 19:30-38 entitled, "Three Insights from Two Tragic Nights."
Sinners don’t need new opportunities, they need new hearts. It’s not enough for a person “to get a second chance,” because we as sinful people continuously need second chances. What people need is for God to create within them a new heart with the capacity and desire to love Him and obey His commands. If you place your faith in Jesus, He has promised to do exactly that: give you a new heart and to put His Spirit within you, forgiving you of all your sins and adopting you in to His family.
Genesis 19:30-38 is one of the most startling passages in all of the Bible because it records two terribly tragic nights of immorality. The man, Lot, who had just been delivered from the destruction of Sodom is enticed by his daughters to become drunk, after which his daughters, on two consecutive nights, rape him and become pregnant. These people had just received a second chance and were spared from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, but with their second chance they make a great mistake.
This is a sermon from Genesis 19:30-38, and below you will find the video recording, the text of Scripture, and a sermon outline to help you along as you watch. I hope this study tool helps you grow in your love for the Lord Jesus and in your obedience to Him.

Sermon Title: “Three Insights from Two Tragic Nights”
    Text: Genesis 19:30-38
“(30) Now Lot went up out of Zoar and lived in the hills with his two daughters, for he was afraid to live in Zoar. So he lived in a cave with his two daughters. (31) And the firstborn said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is not a man on earth to come into to us after the manner of all the earth. (32) Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve our offspring from our father.” (33) So they made their father drink wine that night. And the firstborn went in and lay with her father. He did not know when she lay down or when she arose.
    (34) The next day, the firstborn said to the younger, “Behold, I lay last night with my father. Let us make him drink wine tonight also. Then you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve our offspring from our father.” (35) So they made their father drink wine that night also. And the younger arose and lay with him, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose. (36) Thus both the daughters of Lot became pregnant by their father. (37) The firstborn bore a son and called his name Moab. He is the father of the Moabites to this day. (38) The younger also bore a son and called his name Ben-ammi. He is the father of the Ammonites to this day.”
