  • Free Fishing Gear! (Anglers Hate Me) Freediving Gabriola #vancouverisland
    I never started making youtube videos for popularity. I share my opinions and personal observations. I get it, people don't always like what I have to say or share... All good with me, take it or leave it. Does a biodegradable fishing line exists? if not, it should...
    In this video I clean up one of my favorite dives sites in Nanoose Bay with my good friend Kyle and his family and spend a day exploring Gabriola Island! Lot's of beachcombing, hiking, diving and most importantly, time with the family. I see some octopus too!
    Music:

    Castle Heist - Something New
    The Whiskey Wasps - Casa Monte Negra

    Thanks for building awareness of old fishing gear. While that was from Sport fishing, it would be scary to see what the commercial fishing industry leaves below...

      Yeah man no worries. You gotta wonder what those reefs outside of diving depths look like eh? We were at dinner and a commercial Fishman said they had a good day fishing today. 12,500 pounds of lingcod.... I feel like harvesting 3 is a lot...

    It gives me warm fuzzies seeing you and other people pick up line, rigs, garbage and ect. Never really think about how long it would take fer it to naturally decay. Did you know some people in Indonesia and other places deep sea with shopping bags filled with rocks. That kinda stuff is disgusting to me, I love dropping a line but I want too keep it natural so I can keep enjoying that stuff. All the best to you and yers bro!

      Thanks man! And I had no idea. My friend recently visited Bali and he said it was like diving in a plastic slurry. He showed me videos where he'd be diving with diapers floating around everywhere. Really disheartening to see. Our oceans are going downhill and fast, I definitely do my best to not add fuel to the fire. Thanks for the comment man!

    Always great to see ur travels! Man these sea lions are all over lol. Had a run in with a big bull as I was trying to pry a scallop off a rock. Bummed I left my camera behind! Couldnt tell if he wanted to eat me, or the scallop 😂

      @@PNWSamson I miss the fort Mackay area...moved a load of drilling rigs, and hauled a lot of powder cement to down hole units. I started in AOC Foster Creek, in the Cold Lake Weapons Range in 99, and life moved from then lol. Work can be mesmerizing, so glad you take these time outs! I'm just finished a weekend fire pit burn...Monday comes fast lol...

    Lingcod dont usualy suffer from barotrauma and probably are intelligent enough to find their reef or egg mass again. I think they have some sort of internal compass like birds with magneite in their eye's. Because they tagged some lingcod and they went between two or three reefs feeding in a specific location and they hid in one spot most. Their home or most productive feeding spot

    • @PNWSamson
      @PNWSamson  2 місяці тому

      Yeah, no issues with barotrauma like rockfish thankfully. I've fished in some decent current. I catch a ling and by the time I release it I'm nowhere close to where I caught it. I'd be fairly surprised if it were able to locate that specific spot from a far distance but that would be great if they could. You'd just be hopefully no predators have started mowing down while it's not being guarded. I read without the present male, eggs could be gone in the course of a few hours.

  • @gabrielritsema6440

    Lingcod fishing opens next month i believe. I was diving just a couple weeks ago and saw an egg mass with no guarding lingcod in sight. That said, whats your take on the opening date? It leaves me wondering if eggs will mostly be hatched before opening or if many will still need guarding.

    • @PNWSamson
      @PNWSamson  2 місяці тому

      Most are hatched by the end of March but they can extend until mid April or so. Lingcod around Nanaimo and Vic open May first but on the outside they open April 1st. I find that a little surprising. I went spearfishing last weekend but looked around for egg masses and couldn't find any.

    If you are able to collect it you should list it online or just sell it to me! One lure rescued from the ocean just means one less one to be made from raw resources!

      I'm in my mid thirties, not sure if I'd be considered the "new" generation. Plus, not sure who called the fashion police haha. My wife cuts his hair, doesn't cost us a dime but we are far from professional hair dressers. He's 3 years old, hair is hair.
