    i like that the preliminary step for collage is to destroy.

  • @KG-lr7sw

    The most important things about collage is to let your own unique style and expression to show through, and to enjoy the process. As an art student in a quite demanding program, collage is where I let loose during my free time. I love how I can create anything I want and do not have to worry about perfectionism, as I personally think the distressed, imperfect look adds charm.
    Second, let your materials and spontaneous ideas guide you, and don’t worry if your collages look vastly different than each other (mine do!).
    Lastly, keep your eye out for materials. Another man”s trash is a collager’s treasure.

    Thank you. I'm a long-time collage maker but you still have wonderful ideas for me. It's always possible to learn. I love your galaxy sheet. I've done something similar w/gold paint on reddish brown paper, and never once thought of making a night sky. A deep blue or purple would be lovely as well. When I find words I want to use in a book I'm keeping, I make a photocopy, sometimes on color paper, and cut that out. Same for heirloom family photos. I have also sometimes hand lettered the words. Thank you again for these great ideas, Merel.

      Haha! The books that I use, are vintage and pretty cheap. Also, when I like a book, I often keep two copies of it, so it doesn't hurt too much when I use the other copy for my journal :)

    I’m trying to make a birthday gift for my friend. The idea is 19 collages, each with a different topic (about either her or our times together) for her 19th birthday. All packed in a cardboard box, with a letter I write for her.
    I was honestly going to go on and make a 100 pins Pinterest board before starting, but this taught to just have fun with it. Idrk how to express myself through collages but I can only hope that I have fun while making it, and the love and memories I want to express shine through.

    • @mereldjamila
      @mereldjamila  4 роки тому

      On the internet maybe? Perhaps you know someone who has old magazines laying around that you can use? I think especially companies have them as well (dentists, maybe coffee shops or bookstores) and they'll give them away for free since they're not going to do something with it anymore anway. You could also ask for newspapers at the end of the day (most stores who're selling them will throw them away anyway when the day is almost over). Hope this helps! X
