Pros for some. Cons for others. The city is actually more in the middle than conservatives, while the state is staunchly conservative. I'm not liberal or conservative, but I would like for recreational weed to be decriminalized or legalized, then it would be perfect for everyone.
For everybody complaining about Conservative being in the Cons, he's not saying there's anything wrong with your beliefs. He means there's so much of it that it leaves little to no room for other opinions. Go ahead and argue all about it with me. The fact of the matter is that this is the land of liberty, I don't know if y'all know what liberty really is but basically its important to respect your neighbors opinion even if you don't actually agree with them. That's the beauty of this country.
For readers who are interested in moving to the Knoxville area: Housing costs have risen sharply over the last couple of years just like they have everywhere else, but housing is still cheaper here than in most places in the north or western US. Also, there are several outlying cities around Knoxville that have full services. A big plus is the two interstates that go in all four directions, so if you live outside of the city but you have to drive in to work, it's relatively easy.
Well said, thank you. I have to explain that to someone new everyday. I still get calls from people thinking they can start a small homestead on a $150,000 budget. I'm like, add another $100,000 and you might (MIGHT) have a chance. Its crazy how fast it has grown. Still, property taxes are next to nothing, gas is still cheap compared to most places, and our average cost per house is still cheaper than most places.
I've live here 42 years outside of Knoxville, in the country, on a few acres of land. I suppose every state has it s ups and downs but overall this place is hard to beat.
Trivia ..The Lost Sea in Tennessee is America's largest underground lake, discovered by thirteen-year-old Ben Sands in 1905. It's located in the greater realm known as Craighead Caverns , an extensive cave system that is located between Sweetwater and Madisonville, Tennessee
We've built and supported all these amazing things in Tennessee with taxpayer dollars because we have collectively and politically supported the policies that have facilitated them. Do you respect that? We support equality under the law, not special treatment like so many seem to want.Too many people around here have picked themselves up by their own bootstraps from poverty. We expect everybody else to do the same. It's not racial. Anybody can make it here, but you better be willing to work your azz off.
Lakes are the life of the summer so heck yes we swim in lakes, rivers, and then we have a great water park and more. It's very safe with a heavy presence of Wildlife And Fishery officers already around to protect and serve. People here love fishing, wake boarding, boating, jet skis, swimming, water skiing, kayaking, and more.
Does anyone know why there is some sort of ghosting occurring in the video? Notice when Ben waves his left hand. You'll see a ghost mirror image of his hand near his right ear. Perhaps he's watching a monitor of himself... but how is it that we can see that?
I used to live in Escondido when I was in the Marines. That's awesome. What brings you to Knoxville? Hit me up on Facebook messenger if you want to keep it private.
Yeah those State taxes will get ya. One of the main reasons my father moved us here was Maryland state taxes and the cost of auto insurance was so high. Check out my Cost of Living video.
That's the difference between conservative and liberal areas of the country. Sadly when Democrats and liberals move in , the bring their love of Democrat politics with them . As soon as Democrats get into local government, the taxes go through the roof and everything for basic life gets outrageously expensive.
I live in West Palm Beach. I HATE it. Cost of housing here is outrageous. Its also hot ALL YEAR ROUND. Some people would love than but I hate it. We visited Gatlinburg and the area around it a couple years ago but not Knoxville. We feel in love with the area and are looking into moving to Knoxville or one of the out stretch towns around it. Only thing that is stopping us is leaving family behind.
Cost of living is about to go way down for you. I grew up the Olympia area. Knoxville isn't as pretty (is there anywhere as pretty as WA?) but it's still beautiful and a much better place to have a family.
Hmm, I'm considering moving to TN- Knoxville or Chattanooga. I lived in Oly for 14 years, now in the Chicago area for grad school, and wondering where to move after.
About the east Tennessee weather: I spent my first 29 years around Montgomery, Alabama. Down there, the saying is, there are only two types of weather: hot and wet or cold and wet. The heat and humidity start up before Easter, and it doesn't really cool down until around Thanksgiving. By contrast, east Tennessee has four distinct seasons. It doesn't really start getting hot until mid-May, and it begins cooling off in late September. Even with that, there aren't many unbearably hot days, meaning over 90 degrees with oppressive humidity. The two mountain ranges around the Tennessee River valley protect Knoxville from the worst snowfalls, although we do get big snows every few years where it's bad enough to shut down the schools for up to a week. The springtime and autumn are beautiful. The fall foliage rivals that of New England, and the fall season that just ended was one of our prettiest and longest-lasting ever. Today, December 26, it was nearly 70 degrees and I worked outside a little. We get odd warmups like that in the winter sometimes. It's welcome, because it makes for a shorter winter. Things start blooming again around mid-March.
I'm somewhat serious about moving to Knoxville. I live in Brentwood, Tn, a little south of Nashville, but hate the traffic and crime. I work in Nashville, and see a lot of crime. My wife was robbed at gunpoint in Hendersonville, TN (a little northeast of Nashville), so we now live in Brentwood, TN due to low crime. I think most things are better around Knoxville including beautiful scenery and things to do. Is there a place you would recommend arpund Knoxville to rent an apartment?
My wife and I are looking to move to the Knoxville area from Pennsylvania. This was really helpful as far as the city area, just curious as to what the job market is like for tradesmen there?
As one who is looking to relocate to this area and has recently inquired about the piping trades locally, I was told that there are a number of projects still up and going. However, many projects have not panned out as fully as expected and quite a few folks are out of work. Many projects have been cancelled because of this virus, but overall it's been a tougher market for folks down that way in recent years. That said, usually there is a bounce back for the trades following the major economic downturns like what we saw in 2008-2009. I can't really say what the right decision is for you and your family. It's a college town with a major research facility nearby, so if you can find something to get you by until the winds pick up again, you might find it meets your needs. Kinda depends on your trade and the reason you're trying to move there too. If you're going no matter what, then it kinda is what it is...but overall other parts of the country are in a better position, excluding the temporary public health issues. Just my two cents. Best of luck!
depends on your trade. plumbers, carpenters, electricians and similar trades can pretty much print money. i live in a more rural area and the trades i mentioned are so booked up that it takes a lifetime to get work done. cities will still have a need for the basic trades and getting hired shouldnt be much of a problem. having said all that, the Rona can cause issues for getting jobs, best to call around and ask about your skill area and how jobs are going right now.
Construction is booming in Knoxville. Tradesmen usually make $25-30 per hour if you work for a contractor. Or, you can go into business for yourself and make a lot more.
“Tennessee is hot in the summer!!??” Have you been to Houston yet?? I love to go to TN during summer, cause the mountains make the summer feel so much cooler😎
Have you attempted doing more research on your own? Yeah, if allergic to pollen, your allergy may require buying Claritin-D. What does "polluted" mean? Air quality, perhaps? Any other silly questions?
@@warriormanmaxx8991 Yes knoxville is polluted with bad air. Is it possible I asked the question because I live in a place with bad air quality and don't want to go thru that anymore long term in the summer or thru inversions. The one that is being silly is you. Save your negative comment and keep it to yourself.
Yes absolutely...one of the most in high demand jobs, especially summer but honestly you can say in both summer (can be brutal) and winter. Our HVAC unit is almost always running in one way or the other!! We don't get a lot of snow but the temperatures can get pretty cold!
Im very familiar with both cities and surrounding areas and id take Knoxville any day of the week. Nashville is a pain in the ass, traffic is bad, and is one of the most spread out cities in the US. Say you go shopping in Nash and you have a couple diff destinations you wanna go to, it might be a 30 drive between them. In knoxville you can find all the same stuff pretty much and the majority of every kind of shopping or whatever you would want to go to is situated on kingston pike and within a short drive of each other. Gallatin is a pretty nice lil place but the bad traffic of nashville affects its metro area more and more every day. Knoxville is a much easier to navigate city and its easy to stay out of the bad parts. And in knoxville, it wont take you an hour to get in or out of the city for work during rush hour. And there is nothing that notable that ive found in Nash that cant be found in knoxville, and knoxville is better for alot of things ive noticed. Also, Nashville is one of the most popular places right now in the US to move to so its turning into one of those places where everyone you meet is from somewhere else and theres alot of gimmicky, touristry shit. If you wanna live in a club/bar scene, nashville might be for you but if your older and want less stress, plenty of things to do, including nature, less driving, and all the ammenities of a bigger city, Knoxville is the place for you. Also dont listen to what you hear about crime, Knoxville is safer than Nashville, period. Especially these days. You could live for years in knoxville and never lay eyes on a bad area if you didnt want to. The only real attraction in knoxville that you may have to start goimg towards a bad neighborhood to get to is the Zoo, and its still not bad you dont have to drive that far down, but you will notice the difference. From downtown to anywherw west, your golden. Which will be where anything youd possibly be interested in will be anyway. Safe travels
I live in San Diego....I wish it was as cheap as it was when you were here 15yrs ago. 1600 a month was a steal lol. Thanks for the info on Knoxville. A buddy of mine just moved to Dandridge near Knoxville and I have been looking that way for awhile. So far my buddy loves it there. Thanks again 👍
I agree with all your positives, and I could do with a little less VOLS' worship; but I love it here because it is more conservative, (in my household, we say "A little less insane.") It is somewhat hot in the summer but it is NOTHING like summer in Atlanta, and in Florida, it is hot 10 months out of the year, and only tolerable in January and February. I would add as a con that the sale tax is a little high, 9.75% but then we have no state income tax. As for the real estate prices. . .Wow! Here you can get a nice little house with a bit of land for $250 000 but the prices are rising because of the high demand. So, y'all come on down before we catch up with California and Florida (NY, NJ, Mass, Washington. . .etc)

Being conservative should be a pro
Lol. Yeah buddy I run into conversations with liberals that make me "cringe" too. "Defund the police" etc etc.
Interesting that you put "conservative" in the cons list.. I know now which Realtor I won't be using..

Great video! I have family in Knoxville and they absolutely love it!
I love it too. Actually, once our family settled in, a lot of our other relatives followed us down here from Maryland.
Anybody can make it here, but you better be willing to work your azz off.
well said
These people want to take advantage of what we build, and just waltz in complaining about how we act in our house. Liberals, what can you do
You mentioned community pools as a way to go out during summer heat. Do people also swim in rivers and lakes there? Is it safe to do so?
Lakes are the life of the summer so heck yes we swim in lakes, rivers, and then we have a great water park and more. It's very safe with a heavy presence of Wildlife And Fishery officers already around to protect and serve. People here love fishing, wake boarding, boating, jet skis, swimming, water skiing, kayaking, and more.
Just watch out for the snakes. As in water and land snakes
Does anyone know why there is some sort of ghosting occurring in the video? Notice when Ben waves his left hand. You'll see a ghost mirror image of his hand near his right ear. Perhaps he's watching a monitor of himself... but how is it that we can see that?

Awesome. Can't wait to have you. What's bringing you here?
I might. From ATL. Knoxville is also near Asheville where my friends live. I am avoiding state taxes in GA .
Yeah those State taxes will get ya. One of the main reasons my father moved us here was Maryland state taxes and the cost of auto insurance was so high. Check out my Cost of Living video.
And let me know if I can help.
Good choice. Also as a state TN is so much better than GA.

Things start blooming again around mid-March.
try Houston for heat, humidity, bugs, and rain -- been here too long, gotta leave asap
As a Californian the biggest plus it's not liberal.
The Conservative aspect is a pro!

@@warriormanmaxx8991 Yes knoxville is polluted with bad air. Thanks for sharing this video... I’m indecisive about deciding to move to Gallatin,Clarksville,or Nashville 🤷🏽♀️
I wish I could help with those areas. I can tell you Nashville is expensive to live in. But it's a much bigger City than Knoxville.
@@BenBarredo yes Nashville rent is almost like Atlanta, the only reason i was considering Nashville is because the jobs pay more
Go to Nashville, Knoxville is to racist I'm black just keeping it real

Thanks for putting together such a great list of pros and cons! I have never been to Knoxville
So, y'all come on down before we catch up with California and Florida (NY, NJ, Mass, Washington. . .etc)
Thanks for the comment. You're awesome. The politics are definitely a pro or con depending on the person.
