Are you serious. Look around you. What part of this mess have they responsible for if not all of it.
...What are you talking about - there are a stack of tradies. The problem is they don't want to work for nothing. Do you know how expensive it is to run the ute and all the tools. Obviously not. The days of people working their guts out every day and not getting anywhere are over. We can't buy homes, we can't afford to have a family, we cant afford the tolls - the list goes on. You up the pay rate to 200K and you will have more tradies then you can poke a stick at. It seems to me to be an unrealistic vision, the lady wants to calculate carbon from the ground up, that itself rules out every EV, solar panel and wind turbine made, especially when the dude says offsets aren't any good. All it means is extra tax and cost for everything, especially the customer.
It's really quite strange to me, I'm sure you'll disagree, I just wanted to add my two cents, rather than the guy who wants tradies on $200k.

@@JustIn-mu3nl The hottie you refer to is Polly and that handsome bloke is Richard; and I think they are correct.
You would have to agree that any product should be evaluated from birth to death and I don't think they said any particular product is perfect.
They are saying that companies can't lie about the true nature of their product or the effect it has on the environment.
I think of offsets and recycling as been very similar. You can't say your product is green because you recycle it when what you really mean is that you only recycle the little sticker on the back.
As far as costs go i think you are right. We need an energy solution that does bring down our power bills immediately.
We need a long-term solution that doesn't give of any emissions or ends up as toxic waste.

@@MikeKing-cj9cx I agree totally with what you are saying and it should go further than just greenwashing tbh, for example there are companies unboxing goods made in China and putting them in made in Australia boxes, technically the boxes were made in Australia so they get the sticker.
It's an awkward time, the technology isn't there yet and an important part of that is acknowledging that with good information, then we can know where we really are at and can find meaningful solutions.
I'm of the opposite opinion in regards to CC, but that's not the point, we all would like a cleaner nicer world.
Politics is politics, all they care about is the perception of doing something whilst skimming the cream, that's why it's unrealistic, it will show their grift for what it is, or presents another way of applying tax.
And that lady is quite striking lol.
Thanks for the good message, it's made me think in a different way.
      Edit: thanks

This is exactly what local governments are doing. My local govt would rather spend $500,000 on carbon offsets than actually do the hard work of decarbonising. Their residents would be better off if they offered a subsidy to get off gas and electrify houses than waste the money on offsets.

the “critical decade” phrase was used about the 2010-2020 decade, because to avoid very dangerous /catastrophic climate change meant we needed to start mitigation and see *reducing* emissions across that decade at the latest. BZE was using the phrase as early as 2011 in public presentation on a weekly basis. even then 50% of the GBR was gone (more associated with water pollution from livestock production and overfishing) and furring that decade we lost another 50% of the remaining pristine reefs (mostly up north away from dirty river outflows) due to ocean warming.
this decade has been referred to as the decade of consequences. instead of mitigating over the critical decade our emissions rose, everywhere, even in the USA that looks like reduction on paper but methane generation displaced coal generation and its emissions are largely under accounted for and hidden and obscured using misleading accounting under UNFCCC standards.
