As a Kiyev native living in the U.S.(moved here in 1995), I gotta say, your videos capture that "something" about my hometown that travel channels never could. Also, very sweet to see my old streets and neighborhood. Thank you for the trip down memory lane, especially in these times. Your videos are a gem, capturing Kiyev pre pandemic and pre war. A time capsule.

As always Peter, you have shown me the importance of life in Kyiv. The beautiful people who live life in such a great positive manner will always brighten my day. The St Michael monastery was amazing and so beautiful inside that I have to go look it up. The architect of the buildings as you walk through the streets where people call home with business fronts is so welcoming, then the opera house, stunning! Hello from North Dakota in America my Ukrainian friends and best wishes for all. P.S can hardly wait for part 2🇺🇦🇺🇸

I will have to refer my friends to this video for further insight on my recent trip. Although I didn't visit many of the places you take us to here, the feel is similar to some of the areas I did walk through. And I wanted desperately to take photos and video at St. Michael's monastery but as I entered I saw signs that seemed to prohibit it so I refrained. But since you did so, I can refer back to this to recall the beauty of the interior and to show others. The day and time I visited there a very visible priest was doing some responsive chanting with unseen monks behind the screen. It was haunting to listen to.

Well I sort of did ))) I went to St Petersburg last year so was expecting similar architecture. What was different was the mix of architecture. It was easy to get around even if we got lost many times. Uber’s were so cheap!!! We are veggie, we expected it to be difficult, it wasn’t. The cakes are amazing!!! Everyone was so friendly. The young people smiley and welcoming. We travelled to Chernihiv on the local buses, as we have a friend living there. Again people helped us along the way. Such a pity that it is often overlooked by people. It has so much potential, in so many ways.

Great video and thank you so much for presenting Kyiv to the world! Peter, I also would like to recommend you to visit highrises and rooftops of Kyiv and film the amazing skylines of the city. The point is, Kyiv is quite big and rises pretty quickly. It has so many 25-35 floor buildings today that can easily beat a loooot of other European and even American cities. I like Kyiv for its amount of highrises, business centers other big buildings. For better picture try to visit Horizon Park (Ciklum office), Jack House (Appartments with rooftop), Gulliver Business Center, Royal Tower (Living apartments). You can also review the upcoming great projects, namely Toryan Towers. I believe this content will amaze your audience. Because Kyiv is really great in terms of highrises, business centers, the skyline. Cheers!

As a new sub I am now getting past your more recent work in the USA. Ukraine cities are beautiful, so clean and orderly in a natural way. The people and the vibe are beautiful. That city with the beeeeautiful art deco subway is aaaaaamazing. No wonder you lived there so long. I get the vibe of Mexico City, old and new architecture juxtaposed. The standout is how clean the streets and happy, relaxed the people. Great showcasing of a wonderful place ❤️🏡🍀🌏🐸

Love your channel. I recently made a few Ukrainian friends. They are so hospitable (incredible & simple cooks too). Now I see where they come from. Love all your work. I spent some time on Ecuador & Columbia.
I think it's your Californian that helps your insight (I love Californians though never been there -- Wisconinite though I am much more like Californians). But the Faith and the insane unfortunate wars (now the U.S. sponsored destruction) is at root of the character and also the instability which cannot be helped. Few peoples survive such. Ukrainians indeed have depth (as I see in my friends too). The real crisis now is definitely Faith, not just in Kyiv of course but the whole West (South America too).

Really enjoy your videos, Peter. I've gone to Kyiv a few times since the late 90s and have been to a lot of the locations you've shown and a lot you haven't. It was very Soviet-like when I first went with a giant Lenin overlooking Maidan square where there's a mall now. They didn't know how to handle a credit card and there were few cars on the streets, but more raggedy street cars and buses. Russian was spoken and the only Ukrainian I heard was from American missionaries. It has changed so much since then!...Both good and bad..My wife's family goes back generations in Kyiv so I have a pretty good guide when we go. We are generally based on the island of Rusanivka on the left bank. I feel like Kyiv is my second home and if Svitlana, my wife for over 20 years, had her way we would sell everything and move there today!...Here's some unsolicited random crap you may or may not have done yet.: Go up into the Statues head, eat at a few monastery cafes, go to a dacha on the Dneiper, work out at the outdoor gym in Hydopark, ride the tram to and through the forest past the old Victorian homes to the end of the line...etc.

we have to admit it: we rarely see vloggers who are also tour guides.
it was a great walk in Kiev and it's good when you film yourself when you comment.
it's not the Kiev we see in government media
    or media with biases
the etiquette is in a city where cars go almost at the same speed as pedestrians
normally our psychology and behavior are the product of our history just as the current state of a city can also be the result of its history and the events that it has witnessed.

Correct one is Kyiv, russians speak Kyiv as Kiev like typical foreign people, i.e. incorrectly. Kyiv was named after an earl "Kyi" who was one of city founder more than 1500 years ago, that time the Kyiv region used slavic language group based on a polian dialect, the last one is the most close to a novaday ukrainian language, furthermore all lands related to novadays central/original Russia had no slavic language at all that time, russians predecessors spoke ugro-finish language group, and 6-7 centuries after Kyiv was founded russian predecessors started to use heavily modified souther slavic dialect, the most close to novadays slavic bulgarian, and yes, this bulgarian slavic dialect started to spread with christianity carried by old time bulgarian priests when they moved over future russian lands, lands populated with ugro-finish ethnicities, again non slavic russian predecessors.

Arsenalna is the deepest in the world.
Zoloty Vorota is a really beautiful one tho - even tho was build during last soviet years, it has a lot of freskos of Kyiv kniyaziv\kings, rulers, heads of church, the churches itself, et cetera. Worth checking out. One of the first things i show to foreigners when they come to Kyiv is that station and the gate itself.
Also gates is a replica, but there where stone parts in it. not 100% was wooden tho. part of old walls was found during the research there.

Totally different of course, but both countries are quite inexpensive. Some parts of Ukraine are REALLY inexpensive. For me the most intersting place to go in Europe. It is kind of WILD end EXCITING! Yeah?
