The original "Star Trek" had the most epic and memorable music cues. I can still hear them in my head all these years later. I can't remember a single cue from any of the later Trek incarnations.
Agreed. Memorable music that was used and re-used in multiple episodes. That's part of why we remember it so well - we heard it over and over! David, just wanted to tell you how much I am enjoying watching your channel about on the music of Star Trek TOS. I really love your musical analysis that honors the composers, explains the musical influences, history/use of the composition, and performs and displays sheet music. Bravo! As a tail end Boomer, I barely remember Star Trek when it originally aired, but ate, slept and drank Trek in syndication during the 70s and 80s. My dad was a professional musician (teacher, performer, and arranger) and from his influence I have become a semi pro musician. Your videos have brough back great memories. Growing up, I would listen closely to Star Trek TOS music and try to recreate classic cues on the piano. I made my own medley mash up. In high school (80s) my friend and I made two Star Trek parody fan films (on VHS). For the first, (45 min), we borrowed music from TOS (recorded on audio cassette from the TV) and soundtrack albums of ST TMP, Super Man, and Raiders. For the second film (90 min), I composed an original score (using an 80s synthesizer) with music styles highly influenced by ST TOS and inspired by Goldsmith, Horner, and Bernstein soundtracks. I know it sounds corny but I know you would appreciate it given that you are a music and sci fi lover. Keep up the great work. Blessings.
You mentioned on the main video for this episode that Steiner reworked a cue from "The Corbomite Maneuver" when Apollo's hand comes out of nowhere, the first cue in this mashup is similarly a reworking of one he did for "Charlie X". The chromatic upshifts of it are a bit like Sol Kaplan's music from the finale of "The Doomsday Machine" - and indeed Steiner & Kaplan shared the music credit a few times in season 2. They cut together very well, and I'm sure that if the season 1 music credits had given proper recognition for tracked music, they would have shared credit a few times there too. - Liam.
That montage was wonderfully put together! Except for “Journey to Babel” none of those shows is a personal favorite, but Steiner always delivered the goods, even when the writers didn’t.

Agreed. Justman said that Fred "caught the inner spirit" of the show. He took what Courage started and went well beyond
