- About 70 food-delivery riders turned up on Monday (Nov 11) at a meet-the-people session held in Taman Jurong. They spoke with Mr Ang Wei Neng, a Member of Parliament for the Jurong Group Representation Constituency. During the session, which lasted almost two hours, emotions ran high and things got heated as the riders aired their frustrations.

Yes they are very reckless...many times they came from behind me speeding without any warning..If I had moved to the left/right I would have been seriously injured...People have died because of this..Old man and now you drama on You Tube acting like you are the victim...This ban is justified
I have also witnessed many cases of people on bicycles who do not stop but charge on despite being on a pedestrian walkway ...

In recent times, riders speed in bicycles to meet efficiency in their delivery standards! This is also seen as a rash act that can injure pedestrians on pathways. It’s not about the mode of transport, but rather the idea of correcting the riders’ attitudes and inclusiveness for a safe and sound journey ahead :)
The pedestrians had long lost the freedom to walk safely on the pedestrian pathments because of many irresponsible PMD riders.
Rather than banning and restricting pmd and pab can rather make a license for ppl to ride safely ppl who without license should be fine and jail than will be fair for both parties as there are some ppl trying to make livings and for those who go against the law should be fine and jail
As there are a lot of underage rider riding recklessly is not everyone fault this I my opinion
Disheartening to see this interaction. Disappointing to see both sides behave poorly despite everyone being citizens of Singapore.
PMD riders displayed hooliganism, and aggressiveness. Without any law or rules to govern them, I can imagine how they will be on the roads. Bullying their way through the cracks of the law.
On the other hand, the government representative knew that this was as good as a union address, where citizens livelihoods are concerned. They should have been more prepared on the topic rather than going just to show face.
Angry outburst and loud shouting is not the way to solve problem , let alone can bring positive solution to an existing issue . calm down and think before open your mouth, talk softly and behave civilly in all public forum.

We cannot travel too slowly or the food will not be nice at the customers receiving end and at the same time we have to avoid colliding with pedestrians. So pedestrians stop being a f**king phone zombies or keep to your lane while using the shared paths.
I am not going against the pmd riders but surely they should have had a backup plan just in case did they just assume they were gonna work in this job for the rest of their lives?
I have a design studio of my own, i started doing food delivery for extra cashflow purposes. But i only purchase my escooter 1 month ago. And registered with LTA. After receiving my registration mark number to ride on footpath for about 3 days they suddenly ban pmds. So who is gonna pay me back my $1000 i spent on the device? Even the 7mil contribution doesnt come free, theres requirements for the exchange, do some research and you may be able to understand why so many were pissed off.

Not to blame everyone either the LTA or the PMD riders. In fact majority teenagers youngster is causing big problem everywhere down the road. Minister of transport is smart but not wise enough to handle this matter. That caused him lost in the recent general election. I did came to LTA headquater and interviewed in early stage February 6 2018. Tried to solve the problem by age matter.(Age control for elderly and those who doing food delivery)(Parents to send kid to school too) LTA making a consideration pertaining to the matter. I am trying to help those who really needed to use PMD. Such as delivery rider, elderly people and parents to send their kid to school. I really said the LTA making a big mistake. Minister of impulsive. Taking an action without looking at the world. As we all share the same breath. So in this life please understand everyone. This is my 2 cents suggestion to all minister. We're just an human being. We can't live for a million year. No citizen No minister No president No Police No army No Singapore. The doctor is a killer and the lawyer is a liar. There's 2 very dirty this in this world. No 1 is the politicians. No 2 is the businessman. When you hold an aces card, don't think that you win the game. Just remember there are 2 more card is greater than ace card that might kill an aces card.
The ban is welcome for safety reason but it should be done in phase rather them instant ban giving all this peoples no time to plan or seek alternative

They should “suspend” the law until more dialogue and concrete plans be in place, for rules on the use of PMD specifically for the food delivery trade. They are performing a valuable service while earning their honest livelihood. Safety issues are paramount but there must be a compromise somewhere.
The immediate ban was abrupt and unnecessary. Is it in a rush for GE ? Poor consultation effort with public. Poor policy planning. Very lousy. Erosion of good governance. If they screw up this one, what else did they screw up? CPF ? HDB?

Can we stop being stupid? Don't compare a car on the road vs a PMD.
There is proper infrastructure (eg. roads/traffic lights) and laws to control how cars are used on the road. While on the other hand, there is no proper infrastructure and laws yet to control PMDs YET on foot paths, that pedestrians are using also. Don't compare the 2 dangers together. Accidents happen.
We need to make decisions that benefit 60-70% of the population vs 30-40%. It's called democracy. There are no perfect policies, so the government just needs to be pro-active to adapt. But you can't complain about democracy just because it does not benefit you. Stop being selfish and look at the big picture. Not able to please everyone, if you want that than nothing will ever be done.
If you only want laws that benefit you, then sorry because democracy is not for you.
Fully agree with Mariah. Those smart Alex pse stop suggesting government to deploy officers to police d pmd riders. LTA has tried but very limited success as pmd riders can appear anywhere anytime. Government has exhausted all d means to contain d problem. It has no alternative but to ban it before more casualties.

Ok so why are you wasting time trying to fight against the law now ? I mean think about it. Would the government have implemented the law if it was not for the handful or PMD users who speed down pavements. Hitting people. Taking someone love ones away. So tell me why would you bother taking the time to fight the law when you should actually sit and think why they implemented it. Who caused it. What can you do to since it's already in place. Look at the video here. Most are uneducated young hooligans. Recently one lady talked about how she is a mother and it’s not safe for her to ride on the road. So is it safe for the pedestrians then with all the irresponsible riders speeding on the pavement? And that old man talking about their freedom taken away. I take my hat off to Ang Wei Neng, a MP facing an angry electorate/crowd. It takes guts, he didn't have to do it. How many other MPs did it? I do think the grassroots leader in the suit is a dimwit. To be fair they are probably not as educated as you are that's why they speak in such a crude manner. Given the fact that they aren't that educated, food delivery is their main source of income and their rice bowl are taken away from them hence the heat. Give them a chance to voice themselves out. Are you SURE it’s only “7000”? These riders represents ONLY a portion of E-scooter riders whose occupation are to deliver food from ONE company. I’ve yet to even mention those who uses the COST EFFECTIVE device to fetch Children from schools.

The footpaths were designed only for pedestrians and not pmds n bicycles. It was a mistake to allow them on footpaths, started brb that useless mabok tan in tampines, now the ban is too late.
But its better for pedestrians.
