Skateparks: I Forget How Much Fun They Are!

- We're in the middle of another indecisive New England winter, so we're making the best of this temporarily warm weather to ride a skatepark I don't visit as much. I grew up riding and racing BMX but after I transitioned to mountain biking, my visits to skateparks have become more and more seldom. That being said, each time I get out to one, I'm reminded how much I enjoy riding them even though I spent most of my day relearning things that were once basic.

The best part about your videos is you just doing stuff, that’s all it needs to be. Dig out a tree stump, ride a skatepark, build a mini ramp, make spaghetti. Doesn’t need to be a trip to whistler to be worth watching Love the content and keep being you

My 5 year old lives riding his bike at the local skatepark and doing jumps off everything he can. Its only the beginning 😊
Last year at the age of 52 I bought a dirt jumper and a BMX bike with a 21” top tube. I’ll have to say I’ve been missing out on this extreme fun for all these years and I could kick myself for it. And just like you were saying it has given much more confidence on the mountain bike. Love all of your videos but I have to say this may be my favorite one. Please more of these.

I ended up on a random skate park ride myself yesterday. Dug out the old eastern nighttrain dirt jumper and went and found some lines. No tricks for me but flowing around the bowl on the DJ was so much fun. Same flow state Im hooked to. So funny to see this video pop up!

We’ve had a bad winter in Ontario, not enough snow / cold temps to build a hard base. Just lots of mud, ice, or fluffy snow this year.
Yeah, maple syrup season is in full swing here already, that's pretty rare.

I'm in PA and it's 72 out right now in February ... All the more reason for ski resorts to put more resources into the bike parks!
Yeah, its a smart business move regardless. It doesn't make any sense to not be able to employ workers year round and you already own/lease the land, you might as earn money in the summer too.
BMX skills transfer so easily onto MTBs, and you can instantly see the effortless fluid style difference they have over a rider who have exclusively only ridden MTBs. More MTB riders should spend time on a BMX and in a skatepark, their riding will instantly improve.
Agreed, I grew up racing bmx and dirt jumping, and while the wet off camber stuff took me a bit to get used to but i was at home immediately on a lot of the stuff mountain bikers struggled with. These days though I find it takes me a while to get used to riding park again, but I'm reminded of why i liked it.

As far as skateparks go... that's pretty nice
These places are popping up all over the US. The north east lags behind a bit, but this is one of the better parks for bikes nearby
@@SkillsWithPhil Keep an eye out for here in central NY (Utica). I went to a city meeting and it looks like we have plans to go forward with the largest skatepark on the east coast. Coming soon... maybe.

I raced bmx from when i was 5-14y/o. I also dirt jumped and rode park. It wasn't until i moved to NH that i stopped riding bmx in favor on mountain bikes as we don't have too many good riding spots and i needed a change of scenery.

No, we not yet. Ian has ridden with jay quite a bit in the past. I've talked to jay a few times, we were supposed to ride together this past year, but i ended up hurting my wrist the weekend before :/
