You are so lucky having your dad to bounce ideas off. Best wishes to the ginger warrior.
Keep the machinery simple. The more bells & whistles the more opportunities for breakdowns.
We have the same trioliet for 15 years and we only changed the knifes a few times and some belts, the rest is as reliable as it is
Totally agree never stoped raining since July. Seems like it's every day.
Very detailed and in depth. Thank you Tom, and Dad.
Prayers for Andrew’s surgery.
why do you godbotherers insult medical staff who work longer hours than you ever did or will for shite money by saying your magic "god" will take care of Andrew?
I think you should try another tub feeder. One designed to be used with trough feeders. Schedule it with a demo of a higher horsepower tractor. Some of your problems with mixing could be fixed with more power. Anything to save time is huge. Especially in the long run.
@dancarter8400 so he'd end up having to buy a new feeder and tractor. What world do you live in.
he is talking about changing the feeding to ground feeding so might not need a trough feeder in the future.
Better without troughs that's just so much extra work, we drop on the floor and can scrape away in seconds every few days, we have a big bvl and can run on 100hp that one looks tiny
You want to try a hi speck tun mixer as they have a elevator on the door to make it easier to get into the troughs we are using one atm and it is a good machine
@@ritch195 One of our farms, the troughs are cleaned out every 3 months. If your feed is good enough and you ration it properly, you shouldn’t need to be cleaning out a trough or an open passage every day/s. That’s work.
Demo a tub feeder that is specd to what you actually want. Our Abbey has an adjustable flap like your Keenan to fill troughs. Also has doors either side instead of a conveyer which is much less to go wrong and you can empty out both sides at once. Worth shopping round!
Good luck with everything on the farm stay safe 👍👍👍
Can you put a fold out extension on the chute so the ration lands in the trough feeder? ? That way you can pin it up out of the way for the other feeding. I am sure your metal fabricator can make one for a lot less than £5000.
yeah, and void the warranty? Remind me nevr to let you near any new machimery
We have a Redrock tub feeder it has the discharge at the side with the flap like the Keenan
I think you will need to put the screwdriver on the fuel pump on the feeder tractor if you change feeder
Thanks!
Thanks for the video Tom
✌️💚🖖
its what fits youre farm best! Tom .. there both good solide feeders!
great video tom. we have a keenan and the feed it more fluffy and and airy. the tub mixers always make a solid mix. Sonne farms always does a couple of outtake videos every year, you should save up any bloopers for a special video at the end of the year.
Another great vid good luck to dad with his op keep posting very interesting
Dad n lad chats simplify all the problems 👍 , great video tom
i used to work on a bigger farm here in Sweden, we had a triolet with hydraulic adjustable feed shut(the elevator)! u could extend withdraw etc it was nice!
We always loaded the hay/silage first then the grain or pellets on to tomix in as it trys to go to the bottom. have done this wit screw mixers and auger mixers.
Great video Tom as always 👏👏👍👍
Good stuff Tom as per usual 👍🏼
Like your Dad says the farm is set up for the Keenan, as you've done a demo on the auger feeder perhaps Keenan will let you demo the size which is equivalent to the auger type. As per usual Tom a very insightful vidoe as to what goes on at the farm. 👍
When we mix small loads we mix in the faster speed throws the feed around and off the screw
I like the fact that that you give the pro and the cons for your farm. all farms are different and evolve in time. at some moment a kit is better than an other for very specific reasons. In yourt case, the small mixes for the beef stock is propbably the biggest point.
One thing you could do is
Look to see if there’s a mixer wagon with double discharge so you can do both sides at once and cut your time feeding down dramatically as you’d only have to go in once discharge and your done excellent video 😊👍🏻
Another very interesting video Thank you
Only thing with lowerpower is using the low range on the gearbox to start with and feeding out takes time, we also use a 6155 on a tub and she still shakes so it's not uncommon and for smaller mixes mix it on 1000pto that way nothing sticks tub feeders are an art
We feed with a Haybuster tub mixer and I would never feed in anything but a tub mixer. I like it because the unload conveyor of a chain which is easy to fix. We alway put our hay in first then grains and it mixes great.
Tom, you want to try a shelbourne feeder. You can move the belt left to right, it also moves up so you can reach into troughs.
Redrock feeder has a moving tabel that extends out with leaver 😊
Tom, we made a drop down chute that folds out into the trough for our feeder, we have to let it down and chain it up but it works famously
If you run a faster auger speed for small mixes it works much better, we can mix a 10 dry cow mix in our 20 cube Trioleit. We don't have a front conveyor, just have a door on each side, very simple and less moving parts than on a Keenan
Great video Tom
For scaring starling, magnetic amber beacon… sick it to the steels of the shed. If that doesn’t work then decoys at either end and move them every so often 👍
thankfully it has not rained that much where I am at but it has rained from November with a heatwave in January (a week with temperatures over 20, yay). Even so it's mud galore or 'lama em abundância' if you will. And usually, it rains until April, so we have something to look forward to.
The way triolet recommends loading it is the way we load the tub feeder as well it mixes the light products good aswel. I think it mixes nicer as a keenan but unloads a little rougher than a keenan. The tub feeder has the advantage of a higher capacity which helps when you're feeding more cows.
Another great video Tom 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Tom look at the kverneland siloking compact tub feeder range they would custom build u with elavator / conveyer over draw bar i had 10cm machine theg hold valve too
We have a mixtec, it's got a simple door like your keanen so you can feed into troughs. For smaller loads have your pto in higher speed and bobs your uncle
you would spec the feeder to your requirement a elevator for the troughs and side doors to feed on the floor plus theres no need to change the speed after the first mix just zero the weigher and leave the little bit on the augers
We run our tub mixer in 1000 on tortoise then at about 3000kg on emptying we put into hare and rev it flat out👌
Hi Tom we have had a single-axle Keenan for years. It is a great machine. The only thing is the single axle with the weight being in one place it breaks the concrete up when turning around with a full load but obviously is better for getting in tight spaces if you can try to go for a twin axle I'm not sure what the smallest twin one is might be a bit too big for you.
You need the extension on the tub feeder if you want to get ya feed in the troughs look at that one on jm farming use
The tub feeder looks to mix far better in my opinion.
Stay with the Keenan. You know it works well. I hope everything is well with you. Thank you Tom for doing these videos.
They do make tub feeders with a sliding offload shoot to the left or right for that very reason to load into troughs
We have the Trioliet 1500 without the belt, so a door on either side. Works pretty good and not much going on. But hey, work with what works
Hi on sonne farms on u tube they have a feeder which has a feeder with a hidrolick extended feeder arm on he's feeder I don't know what make but it may help with getting the feed in the bunkes
Top Tip: Buy your Mum a new quality ironing board, after a successful operation for Stenosis I spent days standing up with phone, paper work and tv remote. best work bench ever. When you are recovering you get sore sitting, and if lying down you cant do anything.
Looking forward to seeing a bigger Keenan! I don't see a tub feeder working for you at all.
For the troffs lift your tractor arms So you're hydrolic pump will pump faster and open the door on the feeder so you won't over or under shoot it👍
You can get flaps on the tub feeders like the Keenan has
Tec 7 for the drone
Simple is good..."Go Green!"
Thanks for showing is the demo ~SIMPLICITY - as the finger says - yeh Keenan
A mixer like this is simpler than a keenan in my eyes, replace the conveyor with 2 side doors and its complete. The big chain on a Keenan always gives me the shiffers
Great video Tom as per usual can I just ask do you insure your drones ? I hope so mate
How good does it mix concrete though?
😂
Stay with the keenan Tom. The equipment you know well ❤ and won't cost that much to fix by the sounds of it 😊 x I think you best leaving the drone indoors the money it's cost you for fixing it 😂
Hi @TomPembertonFarmLife you may have told us before but what exactly is the Selco you put in and how does it help the cows?
Love these vid, but won't be the same without your dad, he just brings so much knowledge / wisdom without being over bearing, or condasending, speedy recovery fella.
Ive a Trioliet 12 solomix. It has doors instead of a conveyer . Used for 14 years, never had a problem with it.
Tom mix in 1000rpm you have pit silage, no problem , we always put straw and silage first, bvl we have, with just 2 doors
Might be a good point and try 2 levels bigger Keenan Mix can always do a trade in
Keenan do vertical feed mixers as well at the rotary
Dose it have a high/low on the gear box mine does .
Keenan is a very simple machine , we have a Keenan 360 mech fibre twin axle with a bale handler which is a few years old but works away
the Keenan is better suited for your farm unless you want to change everything just like your father said on the drone side would it be worth looking into a camera system for around the yard ie static cameras set up in certain places
Nothing wrong with trying something else out u won't know until u try it out great video as always
Tom, any update on the new bull, or a movie clip?
Hey Tom when we have our mixer revved all the way up the tractor rocks like yours did it is just the weight of the mixer screws
And is the milk cow barn just one group?
You will definitely get a better mix with the new feeder, which means a better ration for each cow, it will also great for round bales if you ever have to feed them in your ration.
I was going to say put more rpms but you and everyone else already did. We use to put all dry first (straw) let it run for few min then silage last. Mixed it better
Looks to chop and mix it better though.
Keenan feeders are old school & out of date for todays dairy farms. No one buys them anymore in our county. You spec a tub feeder for your farm. We always fit a conveyor belt that folds up and down for troughs & we have a side door if you don’t want to use the conveyor. Also you can mix round bales of silage or hay/straw which is a bonus.
The best feeder ever engineered friend.. they are world wide best..

Would your cows suit a beef Farmer Tom. Could be worth looking into it you wanted to make space around the farm.
Also, hard to beat the green machine from Érin's isle ☺
with the small amount you should do the grass in first. we have a tub feeder and i am never going back to a keenan.
Hello, I come from Germany and we have 300 cows. We have the same triolet and have to add a 120 hp tractor to it because otherwise the mixture ratio is not good. Sry for my bad german english 😅💪🏽
Tom you should see if the size up Keenan can get a steering axel so it gets around your yard
take a plastic 50 gallon drum cut the top and bottom off it and use it to extend the shoot of of the feed shoot by tying it on with bailing twine
Have a look at the Sherborne renald wagons they have a lot better conveyor on the front and really really reliable I used to look after a lot of them
what aout looking at diferant brand tub feeders to see if they have any advantage over the keenan
Have you ever thought of a stationary mixer? Then all you need to have is a trailer to feed with. I'm in the US and we have a stationary mixer and use a conveyor belt to load a wagon.
No problem with the microphone today mate, no clicking!
Tom, im only around the corner with a mini 4 pro if you’re short of a drone im sure we can get the footage you need 👍🏻 also why send a drone to the NL’s when DJI have a service store in Birmingham (DJi Hasselblad) mate…. Next day it fixed in 3days back at your house
Keenan 370 steering axle is the best one out there 👌 in and out of any shed no bother
On the drone maybe get a cheap one for the stay in place shots and the expensive one for the high up and moving in the sky? You need to try other brand top feeders !!!! Other farmers & ranchers I've seen have gone to the top feed ones but theirs do well on troughs. No up & down speed. the difference on the other side feeding it had a curtain .
Stay green team Pemberton,
Did the cows give more milk with the tube feeder?
What branded overalls would you recommend Tom
We have a 20m3 Keenan. It holds 7 tonnes of dairy cow TMR. But don't know if it will fit through your shed opening.
We have had Keenans for the last 18 years or so
Tom hi ,we in co Durham we have a kvernland feeder wagon, our feed conveyor can extend and lift up to fill high troughs
This is what I need
@TomPembertonFarmLife I'm not sure who your dealer will be ,ours is Paxton in Durham, can't fault it really we've had 6000 ton through it this winter Been no trouble
For checking consistency you first need a Penn State shaker box. Then take samples from the beginning, the middle, and the end of the TMR. Put all three samples through the box separately. Weigh the samples from each level of the box and check those weights against the weights calculated by your nutritionist for the ration. Then compare the uniformity of the samples from each position of the bunk. Now you will know if each cow is getting the correct prescribed diet.
Evening Tom my choice Keenan like you said go bigger.😀😀👍👍👍
But if you kept them both, you could have Christmas deliveries to the cows every time. (red & green) 😊
It's like cutting exactly to a line w/ a hand saw vs using a sander to get down to the line. Lots more skill needed with the saw, you can sand it to the line in your sleep
Hi Tom, it seems the rain hasn't heard that it needs to stop for a while. You now have the time to audit your dairy farm and your review is showing good rests. The milking shed and cow barn are sorted and now it's the calves area and which is the best feeder. You and your dad are on the same page after testing the red Triolet feeder, so you should stick with Keenan and upgrade to a bigger model to accomadate the extra milking cowes. Can you fit a helmet on your drones? You are not having much luck keeping them flying and it could be a good time to get some sponsorship from a drone company who can rebuild your 'Kamikaze' drones. Maybe it's time for to take it easier before your dad is off recovering from his operation. Great content as usual. Chris from Victoria, Australia 🇦🇺.
But what was the cows reaction? Any change in milk?
Stick with what works best for you.Green is what works stay with Green!
Tom put two grabs of silage, selco, grains and what ever else ya put in and put the rest of the silage
Evening Tom. Sorry I’m late. 1am calving 🙄🤠
There is a market out there for any cow, we are a flying herd and have had cheap cows and expensive ones as long as they do a job and you don’t mind looking at them.
