- If you take away one of Sonic's main tools, how hard do things get? Well in this video we'll answer that question and see just how many jumps it takes to beat Hero Story and later Dark/Last Story.

Here's where we put a lot of random nonsense :) Going through World Record History, and seeing if we can use any of it for this challenge. Speedruns are very fun to look at especially when you go to the Chao Garden and raise Hero Chao, Dark Chao, or maybe even a Neutral Chao? Do you think I should make a video about Chao? Let me know in the comments. If I do another game what kind of game would you want to see? Sonic Unleashed? Sonic Adventure 2? Sonic Colors or Sonic Colors Ultimate? Sonic Heroes? Sonic 06? What about Sonic Frontiers when that comes out? I'm considering them all.

Using jumps instead of A presses as the challenge makes it a lot more different than I thought it would be! This is interesting. Good shit Dawn! I didn't even know you were doing this, otherwise I would've helped trying to find some strats. That balloon shot at MSt was fucking beautiful, Emerldd is a genius.

Please consider doing Dark too, it’s impressive to think all the jumps were for Tails’ levels, I’d imagine completing a complete save with all the upgrades it’s probably possible to beat Big Foot without any jumps.
Yeah I wanted to do these challenges how you would face them in story style, however I may add some extra clips of what is possible with upgrades. That does sound interesting.

I've recently been getting back into this game myself, and it's really exciting to see others getting back into it as well. :) This game was absolutely a part of my childhood, and coming back to it... honestly it still holds up! I'm always curious to see challenge videos for this game, since there don't seem to be a lot when it comes to SAB2. . . this definitely didn't disappoint! :)

On big foot if you spindash at his legs when he lands sometimes it will boost you up and you can damage him without jumping

nice video! i liked when you explained the trick you used in eternal engine, but it would be great if you explained that trick + the others you used in the video in more detail for those unfamiliar (like me haha)
Yeah some of the tricks are a bit tricky to explain but I plan to make videos on these strategies and stages soon if you wanna check it out!

You can beat Bigfoot without jumps
um actually you don't need any hover frames to make it to the ce chao box at 0:53 ....................
also you don't have to wallrun in gf cus there's some funny stuff you can do with ancient light that gives you height for no reason and it lets you navigate the springs

Now, you called that strat for beating egg golem "beginner" but in my many years of playing sa2 I've only ever manager to pull it off TWICE! Like 2 times not even beat the boss twice haha, I just can't seem to get the technique down :(
I think you may be thinking about the Egg Golem super bounce. Which would have required a jump (this strat is really difficult and also took me years to get down) Prophet bounces (the mock bounce used here) are a lot less intensive in terms of inputs. And really all position based, would recommend trying them out!

I feel like this is kind of a lie. I really feel like a Jump Dash, is still a jump, and so is a rail swap, you jump from 1 rail to another, it's just jumping but with better accuracy. Also swimming, going up IIRC is exactly the same as jumping, at least from the floor it is.

Another question: can you beat it WITHOUT jumping? Probably not.
12:50 Ik you ended up not needing to do this but I find it hard to believe that the glass requires a jump to break. Ik that it needs to be broken with the homing attack, but can't you get some air with a spin dash, then do bounce attacks to position yourself near the glass and then do a homing attack to break it?
That one in particular I tried spindashing around and doing everything I possibly could to get off the ground to bounce but couldn't end up doing it for some reason (at least with the ability to bounce) and yea I didn't wanna spend too much time on it since I figured we would have to jump somewhere anyway like Puzzle Room for example. Also I may include a section in the next one showing off completely skipless stages (maybe not Eternal Engine though LOL)

Yeah the saddest part is, I really spent more time on Tails by far and his jump total still ended up that high LOL
@@DawnSRC eggman actually has much less than tails, iron gate is 0, sand ocean if u use the glitch and walk all the way to the end is 1 lost colony I don't think will be that bad, weapons bed is low ish too the only problem is definitley going to be cosmic wall

Hey sorry I forgot to respond to this. I just used extended versions of the songs and faded them in and out for each section.
My friend in 6 min 25 seconds of the video u only have to jump once onto the pully and than u can damage boost off of it, by the robot thing, in hidden base u can save jumps by jumping off the statue and running on the wall skipping quite a few jumps this score can defintley go down.
The first idea is interesting, on first thought I don't think it would work but I'll try it out and update this later. Hidden Base Wallrun was something I considered learning from this challenge but I realized that it doesn't save any jumps unless I went for the earlier one which iirc is TAS only.
@@DawnSRC do u think it's possible to do eternal engine skip without jumping? The mission street pully thing is possible and makes me wonder if on most pullys it's essential we get hit off them especially in hidden base to remove jumps.
@@elibonham4388 the only enemy in that area is the bomb enemy which will in general hit tails in the wrong direction, if you have footage would love to see it! Bofa is certainly not possible without jumping currently in the way we understand it.
@@DawnSRC u can save a jump in mission street if u jump once onto the pully and get hit off it by that weird enemy onto the platform. I should've clarified which stage I was talking about, I was able to complete hidden base in 27 jumps

How does a rail switch not count as a jump?
How do you mach bounce? I've done it here and there but it's never been consistent
Mockbounce is just bouncing Sonic in the air into a steep slope or something of the sort with speed. The reason it works is a combination of speed changing from horizontal to vertical and also holding the A button to make Sonic use hover frames extending that momentum in a sense.
