The Lian Li Aquarium PC Case from 2003
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
- This is a Lian Li PC-6010 aluminum ATX tower case from 2003, but with the optional $99 fish tank side panel! It holds water, pebbles, plastic fish, and a bubbly pipe thing to get things moving. Yes, that means there's an air pump inside, right next to the IDE hard drive and PCI expansion cards. And it is precisely as loud and vibration-inducing as you'd expect.

This might be the coolest computer case I've ever seen.
Honestly, yeah! I can't stand RGB nonsense, give me silly cases.
But does it taste good? Well find out on the next episode of brutal foods.
The aquarium needs the kids cuisine penguin floating around.
Hi Ian. What about an episode of uh.. Brutal tech?.. Toose? Idk, someone help me out here 😂
Love your videos Ian. Also I agree, this is so cool! I really want one, it would be so fun to look at and it would freak out my friends.
It needs the coolest GPU ever; Radeon 6970 IceQ Turbo
This looks like the sort of thing that would have been the "Grand Prize!" for a school fundraiser reward, haha
Lian Li is a company that's really stuck around and made a solid space in this market.
Maybe worth a company retrospective at some point.
My case is a Lian Li and it's by far the nicest case I've ever owned
Just built a computer a couple months ago, someone suggested a Lian Li case. Best decision ever. Swivel glass doors to access inside, so much space, great ventilation. They make really nice cases.
I just got a Lian Li LANCOOL II Mesh Performance Mid-Tower Case.
I love it, but it's the first time in years I've had to plan a build, because there's so much cable management and customization in the design.
I couldn't just throw things in there, plug them in and be done.
But I'm also 8 degrees C cooler at idle without changing anything else 😊
i have a Lian-Li PC-60 since... 2007 or 2008. Still a good case if your thermals are'n too demanding (and mine are not).
Ironically I never heard of them until a few months ago when I was putting together a new PC. Back then I thought it was some new Chinese company pushing into the market or something...then I saw one of LGR's videos about an old Lian Li case and I couldn't have been more wrong.
I would absolutely put a modern setup in that case and make it my everyday PC.

Clint, if you don't keep that system period-accurate, then I think you need to swap your Threadripper setup into it.

if you could find a way to make a custom loop that uses the fish tank, that would be awesome

Lian Li needs to make a redux/remastered version of this brilliant case for current machines, even in limited run. They'll have one guaranteed customer at the ready (yours truly), and then some.
I'd likely get in line too, especially if they used a slightly heavier duty pump designed for something non-conductive like mineral oil or silicone oil. Wouldn't evaporate like water will, and won't cause as much damage if a leak develops or one of the hoses comes loose.
We'd all go bankrupt !

I’m so nostalgic for this sort of thing. Do you know what it makes me think of? Those little clear wiggle tube things that you put on your fingers. I can’t think of that they were called. I can totally picture the side of this PC transformed into that lol
This takes "water-cooled PC" to a whole new level.
On a modern PC that would be dope as hell for the reservoir.
It's a water+cool pc.
If Jayztwocents were into retro stuff, this would totally be his jam.
I really don’t see how, this was just one of many early 2000s gimmicks for people to be interested in buying their products.
Don't tell Linus!
As both an avid fish collector and pc user, I know there are many aquarium pumps on the market today that are very soft or even close to silent with little to no vibration. I have one on my 35 gal front bow aquarium and the only thing I hear is the filter putting water back into the tank. Its a step up from one 20 years ago. Might be an idea. I don't know.

Wat about a pc case with an ant farm?
I mean back then it was cold cathode lighting, and water-cooling was a thing for DIY folks. Nothing really changed that much.

@@vermilion7777 - Well..... get on it. Get yourself some plexi and bonding epoxy, and create a reservoir aquarium on the side of your case. The trick you'll have is making sure the water comes in at the bottom and goes out at least halfway up so the suction doesn't pull gravel (or bits of gravel) into your loop. Or worse, the pump.

@@mr6johnclark 5900X and RX 6900XT (both water-cooled) would make the perfect and sexy aquarium combination, even if you don't get the "69" on the RX 6900 XT part.
I really wish Lian Li would come back with some sort of modernized anniversary PC-60/PC-70 cases. They've always been my favourite cases in terms of aesthetics.
Yeah, simple opaque metal. Nice and timeless. Can't go wrong with that. You can keep your windows and disco lights, I'll stick with something I can leave on overnight when necessary and still get a good night's sleep.
That reminds me of those big tube lights with the plastic fish and jellyfish that were super popular in the 90s lol, had one in my front room.
yep i remember that
The early 2000s seems like a distant acid trip sometimes hahaha
there certainly were far more unique cases in that era of PC cases. it's like after the dull grey and beige boxes of the 80's and 90's people were ready for some flash and flair on their PCs. saddly that need for flash and flair led to the boring case designs of today that rely heavily on lighting for all the flash and flair. today nearly every PC case looks like the same squarish/rectangular tempered glass or metal box. it's like the 80's and 90's all over just with tempered glass and fucking rgb out the ass. it's like every PC today is a damn disco show. i'm fine with a pc that has no lights , or at least all the same color with no flashing. i'd rather see more unique case designs that aren't total home brew custom jobs.
That is so cool, I will admit the water being so close to the computer still makes me a little nervous. I think you should definitely keep the build early/mid 2000s era. The garish colors of the fish SCREAM Windows XP!
Much prettier than the fugly boring flat Windows 10 look
I had this and it ruled. It's still somewhere at my parents house. Great combined with a Coolmaster Muskateer 3.
I love this so unironically. I love that it existed, that it was sold and that people used it.
25:23 - Loved that swift jump cut to free that fish, it was giving me anxiety!
I would install components from around the early 2000’s. Then I would just let an aquarium screensaver run all day :)
i am so excited watching this, best thing all day! thank you.
