Awesome cab ride on the R32 C train DJHammers, I really like the sounds from the HVAC as the train is travelling in the tunnels. This is also one of my favorite subway cars on the B division routes because you can get a fantastic view from the RFW
I went to high school in Fort Greene, Brooklyn from 68 - 72 and took this train to the Lafayette Avenue station. The neighborhood was so dangerous that we had to leave school together at 2:30 or risk getting jumped in the four blocks from the school to the station. We also had to ride together in the first four cars of the train for the same reason, lest we get picked off. It was that dangerous. Now that area is a lot better and safer. I smile when people talk about how dangerous New York is today because they have no idea how it was back then.
I'm familiar with the London underground . By contrast the New York subway seems to have much longer platforms and shorter distance between stations. Square tunnels , that's also different .
I have been to London and found that the NYC subway system is more like the first generation subsurface London lines that once operated steam locomotives underground. Some of the NYC system is deep tunneled like the later London deep tube lines which were built after electric propulsion became available. Both systems have somewhat similar histories in the way that they were developed and operated by private companies and then consolidated under government ownership and operation.
Think of the District/Met/Circle lines. They're surface lines as opposed to the Victoria and Piccadilly lines for instance. By the looks of it, this is a surface line of the New York subway.
Nice. Yep, used to ride the C all the time back in my NYC days. BTW, it's interesting how graffiti tagging has moved from the trains to the insides of the tunnels. I lived through the great graffiti outbreak in the 70's and everything got tagged except for inside the tunnels. Now since the MTA came up with a way to quickly remove graffiti -- it looks like they leave it in places where they don't really care about it -- like the tunnels. Anyway, to this day, I can't understand why someone would risk getting fried by the third rail or run over by a train just to put graffiti on something.
Off to the left or right depending on the station, it's the covered rail that's raised off the track bed. If you watch the classic hip hop movie beat street, you can see it clearly as well as what will happen to you if you are grounded to it
Curious why the Stop Marker "S" at 163 St and the 10 Car marker at 155 St are slightly passed the end station walls at these stations? I never seen this elsewhere in the system, generally they are before the end walls. Are these stations shorter than the normal B division stations, or is there another reason for this?
These stations and also the ones along CPW are somewhat short so the S & 10 car markers are past station limits for full length trains especially 10 car new tech trains.
A caption showing which stations the train is stopping at would be nice, particularly for people not familiar with C line, or any NY Subway lines (like me lol).
Maybe if I watch it on a big screen, but I'm watching it on my phone. Also, this is from the operator's view, so by the time the train pulls up and stops and all the signs are done going by in a giant blur, there is nothing left but a signal light and a dark subway tunnel to stare at.
There are fewer trains that you can do this any more as the MTA has basically adopted the full width cabs on the NTT's Only the R32 and R42 are left on the B Division. Occasionally you may see some videos of R46, R68 or NTT's if the TO doesn't block the view, but this is a rare occurrence these days.
i wish you can record from the front view on the D Train, but i also discovered that you still can see on the front when its on the tunnel, all you have to find the first D Train car with the number 2644
You ideally could use 2 cameras set at opposite light sensitivity then we can see better in the tunnels, and just cut footage appropriately. But this system is so scuffy not sure I want to see lol
It makes me mad when I see graffiti not just outside the tunnels but now I see it inside the tunnels as well as I have no idea how they have access to tracks that are underground maybe the MTA needs more security cameras to stop any future graffiti.

Thx so much for uploading. I like this Kind of Exploring very much. Greetings from Germany.
Great ride. Thanks. I gotta add that some of those "Timed Signal" locations were annoying, at best. Wonder if they've made any changes.
They are all still there. I just started working the C and still figuring them out. Some are crazy slow, especially going back uptown.

I think most of the graffiti in the tunnels is pretty old.
Most of the graffiti in the tunnels goes back to when they’d bomb trains in the 70’s-80’s. Lots of stuff from the 90’s down there also
@@patrickmorrissey3084 trust me when I say, it still goes on in the tunnels. People are knuckleheads with nothing better to do.
Damn I’ll miss this..
So the C, E and R trains are entirely underground?
possibly,,
Yes indeed
Lol they actually aren’t if I’m being nerdy. Between Bay ridge ave on the R train, there is a tiny bridge there
Which one is the 3rd rail? Im Australian we only have overhead power lines
the one on the side, which is a bit higher than the actual rails
Some trains have overhead power lines here too. Just not the NYC Subway.
Off to the left or right depending on the station, it's the covered rail that's raised off the track bed. If you watch the classic hip hop movie beat street, you can see it clearly as well as what will happen to you if you are grounded to it

No the E is also entirely underground. It is a favorite of the homeless in the winter months for that reason.

Excellent video as usual. Thank

I call these type of Subway trains “worms”. Meaning that they are always underground and never see the light of day.
If I want to go to Times Square I need to get off in 50 street, right?
This is really my favourite Channel!
Thanks for your nice Videos,
it is very enlightening,

Aw man now I miss taking the R32 "C" train from 81st Street down to 42nd Street. I was planning on taking more rides but the pandemic hit.
Stunning 4K! What's the high pitched tinnitus like sound?
That’s the sound of the HVAC system!
I still remember when the R-32s took over base service on the AA in December 1967. The C duplicates the AA route as far as Chambers St.
@Alex McCaffery There goes my cover.:)
A caption showing which stations the train is stopping at would be nice, particularly for people not familiar with C line, or any NY Subway lines (like me lol).
right but it says the station name on the walls as the train is pulling in

Yea but the A is getto cause its coming from farrock
Today you get a history lesson:
The "C" train known back in the early 1970's was "CC" train...and it RAN
ON THE GRAND CONCOURSE "D" line.............
Where does the c train go after 168th street last stop. Does it go do the dyckman yard?
There’s a small relay yard north of 168th Street, where trains turn around to re-enter service.
interesting and nice to watch
Those R32's have long been all retired and scrapped since this video was shot
Reminds me don't live in New York City!
At the beginning of the video, where does that train on the right disappear to?
That was the A train. The next stop on that train was 145th street
Why doesn’t anyone do rfw window videos hardly at all.

Because the TOs block them because they don’t want people to look in the controls.
DJ did a row video of the 7 express R62A 7 train that doesn’t have the passenger front view. How did he get the front view when it!s not accessible?

tf51d well here’s the thing I used google maps and it only takes about 1 hour
The train may take longer at a busy station, also doesn’t always have the green light, and to top it off I find google maps unreliable for trains.

Logical R211's car assignments
Base Order (440 cars)
The Base Order of 440 cars will go to the A and C to retire 356 R46's at Pitkin Yard Meanwhile Both the A and C will continue using their R179's that will leave 75 R211S fo Staten Island Railway
Option Order 1 (640 cars)
Partial of the 1st option order which is around 110 cars are going to the A/C as spare units while 250 cars will go to Concourse for D service for upcoming CBTC installations on 6th and 8th avenues meanwhile R68's from Concourse and R68/A's from Coney Island Yard will be transferred to the N, Q and W to Retire Coney Island Yard's R46's with that Broadway Isn't Getting CBTC Anytime soon The E and F can get 280 cars from the First Option Order since Both of those lines have a high ridership
Option Order 2 405 (5-cars units) and 32 (4-car units)
The 2nd Option Order will go to Jamaica Yard for service on the E, F and R Since Queens Boulevard E and F lines has a high ridership meanwhile 710 R160's will be displaced to Concourse and Coney Island Yards for B and D service
