Now that we’ve explored 3 different ways of playing consistent 16th notes (Academy Lesson 41), learned some classic grooves that utilize them (Academy Lesson 42) and have learned how to adjust the phrasing (Academy Lesson 43) let’s explore how we can apply these skills to some other grooves and styles that utilize consistent 16th notes in the right hand. Some of these include, Bossa Nova, Second Line, and 12/8.
We’ll also look at some fun fills with our new 16th note skills. I hope you enjoy!

Extremely challenging stuff here, for me at least. You're a brilliant player! On another note, Stublefield played those fast 16ths on Funky Drummer for over EIGHT STRAIGHT MINUTES!!!! Some have attributed his ability to do that to his relatively soft and quiet touch Thanks so much for this fantastic video..

If your hand gets tired you simply use dotted 16ths so there’s a little pause then when you get second wind go back to straight 16. Most won’t notice it during playing because music fills in the spaces. Trick to longevity is using wrist not arm

If you liked my technique for stamina try the last rhythm Stanton did with right hand doing 16ths on floor Tom with accents it’s really easier then found consistent 16ths because you don’t fatigue your hand I used this type of fill for solos and added tons of doted 8ths and triplet bass notes used my high hat with power open close technique so it sounds like a cymbal crash albeit with smaller cymbals then a marching band and you sound like more then one drummer or a small marching band it’s really cool sounding and everyone wants to know how did you do that! Want to make it even more interesting use your left stick to do drags on bass drum batter head too. This was before double bass pedals so now it’s even more interesting when I toss in Cobham Style fast triplets or drags with bass drum. None of this is really hard to do if you make mistakes no one hears it they just hear this panoply of percusion in a funky way. Enjoy

OK great! Make sure you check out Academy Lessons, 41, 42, 43 and 44. They all deal with lead and 16th notes and then in this lesson we cover how to utilize those lead hand 16th notes in other ways. Let me know if you have any questions! 🙌🏼
