I know this video is already a year old, but I have just gotten into videography as part of my job and am diving headfirst into SLOG shooting. Your videos are terrific because they are simple to follow, you are clear in your instruction, and help to make a whole new terminology easy to grasp. I hope you keep up with the channel because your instructional videos are the best of any that I have found so far.
Thank you Clayton! I've been meaning to produce more content but working full-time always poses a challenge. I've got a lineup of new videos that should be coming out shortly so make sure to stay tuned!
This has literally been one of the best tutorials of anything I've ever seen in my life. I'm 25 and I'm 99% certain I had ADHD, so I have hyper-fixated on A LOT of thing. Meaning I have seen A LOT of tutorials. And when I tell you, when I looked down and I saw you only have 4.71k subs at the time of this post, and this video has 26.7k views. I am utterly SHOCKED. At the time of this post, your channel seems a bit far between posts. I hope this comment serves as a testament to your future. I hope it's bright, and I hope that I can watch a future video of yours where you have 1m+ subs and think, "Damn, I really subbed at under 5k 😱" Wishing you all the best!
Wow Kevin. Thanks for the kind words. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. It’s definitely a struggle making regular content while working full time but I’ve got some new videos in the works. Keep your eye out!
How has no other video I've watched about colour grading, talked about the Sony provided LUT you used!? Such a good resource! Great video, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing. Your footage looks absolutely amazing! I almost find it hard to believe that this is a7III footage. Everytime I use Slog2 on my a7III is ends up looking like garbage. I would love to see your video on how to expose for Slog2.
Hello Timmy! Thanks a lot for the clear, elaborate video. I got my a7iii a couple of months ago, also did a couple of assignments with it, but I did not feel comfortable enough to use SLOG-2 just yet. Thanks to this video, and the one you put out on exposing properly for SLOG-2, I got motivated to try this picture profile out. Thanks a lot! Looking forward to your future videos. Greetings from the Netherlands!
Do you use a different Picture Profile for shooting in 120fps? I’ve noticed that my slow mo starts to fall apart when I shoot 120fps slowmo in S-Log. Great vids!
Hey thanks! I still use SLOG2 when shooting slomo. Although the 60 and 120fps are not great on the a7iii, if you overexpose, you should still get similar results. I’ve been sticking with 24fps recently
Thank you! Since it's a paid LUT, I wouldn't feel good about myself giving it away for free. But you can find it in Triune Films Retro 80's LUT pack with a TON of other amazing LUT's.
Such a great video! I recently purchased an A7iii camera myself and I'm still not sure what picture profile to use. S-Log2 looks wonderful in your video, but aren't you worried you might get bad image quality because of the A7iii being an 8 bit camera? I've read a lot about people that are using HLG3 because it's better for 8 bit cameras. What's your opinion on this topic? I just want to know if I should use S-log or HLG on my trip to austria :)
Personally I’m not too worried about it. As long as you’re not pushing your color grading too far in post, 8-bit works totally fine for most needs. If you’re a heavy grader than obviously 10-bit would be better. I just like the highlight roll off on slog-2 better than HLG. I think both are fine if you know how to use them. Ya just need to mess around and see what works best for you.
@@lucabudgen If I can, I’ll use an external Atomos monitor so I can use a waveform. If I’m running light, I just use the zebras (set to 100+). I’m working on a video that’ll cover how I expose for slog-2 next
I think the Ninja V is the best you can get. It records ProRes and doubles as a recorder. Plus I think anything bigger than a 5" monitor is a little too big.
Very subjective question. Depends on your skill level and if you know how to color grade. I prefer slog-2 but that’s because I’ve built a workflow that works for me.
Hi Timmy! The footage you have from your Sony a7iii is the most beautiful I have seen! Thank you for all your videos! I'm not sure what it is but even following your tips I seem to get a lot more magenta and orange on my footage. I even downloaded your videos and bought the Truine Lut because I was getting so frustrated why my footage looked so off. Have you ever had issue's with magentas and skin color? It seems like a common issue - but your footage is so freaking beautiful!
Actually I had the opposite issue for a while. Everything seemed to be more green/yellow. I ended up checking to make sure my white balance wasn’t causing any issues but I think the older Sonys used to push green/yellow a bit more. They’ve seemed to fix that in their newer cameras
A video : how make a good settings when we shoot on LOG, it would be amazing!
I think I’ll work on that one next!
Do you thing LOG will help you to capture some ghosts ? :p

The footage looks great!!
+1 for the exposing / shooting in slog 2 video. Thanks for recommending the film riot luts btw.
I bought them years ago and still use them til this day. Best LUT’s you can spend your money on in my opinion
This is so nice. Thanks for sharing tim
You got it Miguel! Thanks for watching, as always.
very helpful thank you
You're welcome!
This was superb! Thank you very much!

Thanks Yi! More to come...
Actually learned a lot here 👌🏼
So glad!
Thanks 🙏🙏
Thanks for sharing bro.
Hahaha I watched that short film and wishing for the tutorial. Now I got it

Fantastic, is the S-log 2, the native sony settings? Or do you use external LUT, like leeming luts or something like that? Thanks
Standard PP7 settings. I talk about the LUTS in this video
i've already download your footage., How u get Prores 422 LT codecs on A7III? Did u convert h.264 to prores 422 use a third party app?
I recorded everything onto my Atomos Ninja V in ProRes.
Do you over expose two stops with slog2? Great video btw @legrandjd
The video is very beautiful and done well .
Is this all handled shots or did you use a gimbal
All handheld!
@timmyLodhi - what software did you use to convert the sony h.264 log format to prores?
Very nice video! Can you share just the big trouble in little china Lut?
Thank you! Since it's a paid LUT, I wouldn't feel good about myself giving it away for free. But you can find it in Triune Films Retro 80's LUT pack with a TON of other amazing LUT's.
GREAT GREAT GREAT! :)
hi bro, can you tell me how to profile setting using s-log2 like your footage on drive
I've got tons of other videos on my picture profiles and color-grading process. Make sure to check out the other videos on the channel!
THank you for this

Thanks so much man!! Really appreciate it
Great video! Wich color gama did you used?
Hi! what working color space is set in your Sequence Settings?
Rec709!
a little late, but what is that sliding color grading effect you used? from the log to rec709 to the lut
can i screenshot the still for my color grading work and use it for portfolio purpose but i will give the credit in my caption
That's ok with me! As long as you credit the footage.
hey ,just downloaded your stock footage & find out it MOV QuickTime with 10bit ProRes 422 ,how is it possible A7III Get 10bit & 422 ?
Recorded through an Atomos Monitor. It’s not 10-bit. Still 8-bit with a better encoding.
Did you use polorize filter? The footage looks really nice!
No polarizer filter! Only a variable ND
Is this 8bit sonyA7iii, so nice color love it
Yes it is.
Hey thanks for sharing! By the way do you happened to face any autofocus issues when shooting in slog?
None whatsoever!
Hi, please tell me in which color profile you had the room set
Just standard Rec709. No picture profile used.
hello, is it necessary to reduce the file size for videos on youtube and instagram? compress*
No. In fact you can upload ProRes videos to UA-cam if you want. It will just take much longer to upload/process.
Newbie here, I can't seem to find my slog 2 footage in my premiere pro. My computer cant open it. Please help!
Hmmm. What do you mean? It doesn’t show up in the Project panel when you import?
Thx Bro!! which external monitor for the a7iii would you recommend and why?
I think the Ninja V is the best you can get. It records ProRes and doubles as a recorder. Plus I think anything bigger than a 5" monitor is a little too big.
how did you manage to record in apple pro res with the sony a7iii?
Atomos Ninja V external recorder
Quick question!! HOw are you shooting the video in .mov?
I'm recording the files to a Atomos Ninja V in ProRes LT (which are .mov files)
@@TimmyLodhi ahh gotcha thankyou!! i was guessing the same thing but just wanted to confirm !! loved your contents keep going♥
@@ASHGRG thank you friend!
What modifications do you use in the profile, could you share?
No modifications. Just the standard PP7 profile. Watch my video on exposing SLOG-2 for more info.
What’s the best picture profile for the a7iii? I shoot car videos
Very subjective question. Depends on your skill level and if you know how to color grade. I prefer slog-2 but that’s because I’ve built a workflow that works for me.
Which model of ND filter do you use? 😊
In your every video I see this aspect ratio of video how do you create this in editing?
Just change your resolution in the project settings. I usually go with 3840x1920 when working with 4K footage.
Sir can u share s log 2 camera settings
What are your setting for SLOG2?
Hi sir ...
What to s loge 2 settings in your cemera ?
Hi Suthar. I use the standard PP7 settings with no changes made. I'm working on a video for my video settings I'll release in the next few weeks.
Please new video for proper exposing of image on slog2 thanks
