I’ve made traditional Japanese sawhorses by hand with no nails, screws or glue, and Krenov style mortise and tenon sawhorses, but your design is too cool, I have to make some sets immediately. And paint them fun colors.

I've actually been using those cheap foldable trestle tables with the plastic top and metal legs instead of saw horses. You only need two to support both ends of a sheet of plywood or whatever when cutting it. They can also be used as extra work-table space or whatever too, and they are pretty light and fold down to almost nothing. I've actually been thinking of designing a table-saw setup using them as extension / out-feed tables as space in my garage is limited.

Hi Alexandre. This is the best plan I have seen. I bought plans and I am going to build sawhorses soon. But I am little bit confused from dimensions on plan. Why is "bottom brace" 400 x 90 mm and "hinged bottom brace" 402 x 90 mm? It makes one frame of sawhorse 2 mm wider then other. I can't figure out the reason. Thank for explainnig.

Hi alexander! Great design. I bought your plans and are planning to build 4 horses this weekend! The thing I am worried about is the alignment of the hinges. It is hard to believe that you got it so accurate as shown in 11:09! A small angle error get amplified by the leg length of course. Any suggestions for aligning the hinges? Ideally, you want to start folded but you cannot mount screws of course. What about just a single screw, fold the saw horse, align and then carefully open it to drive in the remaining screws?

Very nice saw horses. I will probably build myself a set. The sacrificial top piece is a nice feature. However, it's good practice to not cut your saw horses when working on them. Normally one would place (2) 2"x4"x8' boards between 2 horses with 4-6 pieces of 2"x4"x4' across them to both properly support your plywood and prevent cutting your horses.

Please, please, please practice better safety on your tablesaw with the use of push-sticks, etc. I have been doing woodworking projects for many years so I am very comfortable around power tools - too comfortable apparently. 3-1/2 weeks ago I was completing a simple cut list for a 3 drawer cabinet and I reached back across the blade and nearly cut 2 of my fingers off. I got lucky and they're healing nicely with no motor loss and sensation is slowly returning. I love your channel and do not want to see you hurt. Complacency + Impatience = Injury, Alexandre.

    • @achappel
      @achappel  4 роки тому +15

First of all, I'm happy to hear your healing up nicely! Sounds like that was a close call. And yes! absolutely use a pushstick, as I've mentioned earlier as well everyone needs to judge the situation themselves, I didn't feel like any of the cuts I made here were to close for comfort, and I will absolutely use a push stick when in doubt! The most dangerous cuts are always the most routine ones where you lose focus and make silly mistakes. Thanks for watching :) and a speedy recovery

I hear you my friend! I have spent years in the shop with power tools and continually warn myself to not get complacent, but it happens. Main reason I bought a SawStop 10 years ago. I actually bought the plans and
built 3 of these sawhorses! Who else can say that here in the comments 😊
The plans are really well made, clear and accurate. Worth the money.
However, the design itself resonates computer design and not workshop design. I mean it works nice on paper but not in practice.
The margins of 1 mm I can accept.
But all funny angles and cutouts are too time consuming to justify (just) a saw horse built.
Without a band saw at least.
Also, the alignment of the hinges is done flush to a shoulder, and then the far end of the legs should align within 1 mm. A lot of tweaking.
Concluding, I am happy with my result, but it was not worth all the hours a spent. Could be my lack of skill also 😉

I am wondering, how these turned out in practice? I have bought plans and plan to build them in future, but when I have watched lot of your recent videos, these foldable horses won't ever show up in those - they are always those ikea ones that are being used when sawhorses are being needed. I would like to have foldable horses when i break plywood at home center to fit my car, so they don't really need to extremely sturdy for my purposes.

Thanks for the video. Could you tell the name of your table saw and where I could get it. I like the table sled attachment.

How did you accomplish the panning motion at e.g. 7:10? It doesn't look like the usual cropping trick, because the perspective actually changes. Do you have some rails for that?
