Lots of good advice here. I’m about 3 months off a disc herniation and feeling like a million bucks. Immediately stopped any alcohol or smoke ingestion. Changed my diet. Progressive stretching. Personally once I was able to start planking for longer and longer time periods, I was able to progress significantly. Backing off triggering pain was key as well. Possibly the best of all the videos I’ve seen on the topic. If you are as depressed and hopeless as I felt, just know there is hope. Help yourself!
@@AllThingsNew316 started at 3 sets of 20 seconds. I’m doing it for 5-6 minutes straight now for multiple sets. My core and back are stronger than they’ve ever been 7 months in. Squat university on UA-cam will change your life.
@@jakeongtone the herniation dries up over time, you just have to take measures to not hurt it again and strengthen the muscles around the back such as core, lower back, glutes, hamstrings, quads etc. The disc takes about 6-7 months to dry up and the anullus fibrosus takes about 18-24 months to heal given it was a *disc herniation*

I’m in year 5 of this. 22mm disc herniation & annual tear in 2019. I’ve had so many setbacks and flareups. And I had another really painful flareup this past month. The mental battle has been off the charts. But I’m learning and believe I can still overcome and this.
I avoided refused cervical surgery. Taking a lot of vitamins daily to help promote tissue repair. I went from loss of balance, barely walking, numbness in arms and legs, neck paid to now having no pain and fully functioning again. I’ve been wearing a neck brace religiously and only doing moderate physical activity
Informative video. Hey doc dos dulge disc heal? Its nor hernated. And i in lots of lower back pain, the mri shows 2 bulge disc in the lower back. I on pain medications for 2 months now. I get weakness in my legs as well. I keep a straight posture and avoid twisting and so. My walking is verv slow and same with all my movements. Im very depressed and worried. Plz advice
I'm 54 and been lifting weights for 40 years. I started noticing pain in my right hip after heavy deep squat workouts and later after deadlifts about 4 years ago. I tried to work thru it, but the pain got worse and became almost constant about a year ago, mostly while standing and walking at work. Finally saw a dr and thought it was bursitis. Got a cort shot that did nothing. Xrays showed some minor hip labral tears, but he said pain on the outside of the hip is more than likely from a back issue. Sure enough, after hip mri and 6 weeks PT that didnt help I got a back mri that showed multiple bulging discs, but one that is bad and looks to be pushing on the main nerve on the right side near the bottom vertibrae. The dr said there was nothing he could do as I wasnt bad enough for surgery. I could try a pain shot, but that would just mask the pain and not fix anything. So Ive been trying some peptides and supplements and modifed my workouts. I guess no more deadlifts or back squats or anything heavy on the spine at least for now. Its been a few months and still not much if any better. I do smoke, but not a lot and have trouble getting enough sleep as Im a 3rd shifter with a rotating schedule. I know I need more sleep both for healing my back and to gain muscle better, but tried about everything as far as sleep aides and nothing seems to work for long. Anyway any suggestions besides giving up lifting? I am doing more cardio and core exercises now and stretching. I think my big mistake was rounding my back during heavy lifts and not stretching. Plus getting older lol.
I have herniation L4, L5, S1. My physical therapist had me doing seated leg press and squats with a medicine ball in the acute phase! I'm worse now than when I started. I am getting spinal decompression and he was loading my spine with additional weight! He was very defensive and wouldn't talk with the surgeon. We are trying to keep me out of Surgery, not re-injure me. He was wrong to do this, wasn't he?

We like to recommend gentle strengthening in the mid back area. We see good results long term. The issue is that you need to find pain relief first and cannot go into exercise too intensely.
Been dealing with back problems most of my life. You'll have to try different things to find what works for you. I disagree 100% on his comment of stretching for lower back pain. Stretching is what healed my lower back pain and still does to this day when it re-occurs. Spine elongations, hanging by hands/arms/shoulders, to take pressure off the spine and discs works wonders for me. Blood flow is another key. Half hour at just 3mph and 3degree incline on the treadmill also works wonders. Depending how bad my back problems are and several other key physical issues, my back can take to heal just a day or two to a year or more. I found 6 to 8 weeks a chuckler. Currently, my back is almost back to normal. It went out this spring in the C to T junction. Keep at it. Baby it. Work it. Stretch it to the point I just start feeling pain then back off slightly and hold. Tricks to learn are the healing journey.
This did not heal the first time and I have surgery 37 months in. I was only 29 years old when herniated and not living healthy and kept doing labour through injury. This time around 11 years later, yea I’m 7 years sober and dedicating my whole life to recovery. But it’s not healing many months in. I don’t do labour work I don’t smoke. It’s not healing and I’m given 3 years to even see a surgeon here in Canada. My herniation was very severe.

The biggest factor is how much compression on the nerve the disc is applying and this can be gauged by how far down the leg the psin travells, the second factor is the condition of the patient overall health, factor number 3 is existing medication the patient is all ready on if they have high blood pressure then naproxen for example os a definite no no as it raises blood pressure, factor four is will power because without will power the patient will not put themselves through the pain of surrounding fascia tissue massage and stretching the shortened muscles snd strengthening also, factor five diet go vegan or vegetarian it greatly reduces inflammation in your body by 40% and factor six is time, understand that ot will get better but it takes time snd misinformation on utube about 6 weeks is so far off the mark it really is,factor seven is the age of the patient.
@jaysonterry4746 you'll be OK. Research the effects of vitamin c on herniated discs. It's a great vitamin. I reherniated mine 2 weeks ago. Pain at a 10. Immediately did a round of steroids and started about 20k MG of vitamin c a day. I'm at a 3 or 4 only 2 weeks in and been working a physical job last 4 days. It hurts but no where near the first time. Started the vitamin c at like 10 weeks first time. Wish I knew then what I know now
@@Thebombboom wow thank you man! Ill get some asap. I was looking last night at different type of pills you can use for it. Will def try this! Hows your nerve pain?
@jaysonterry4746 nerve pain has gone from a 10 at the start to about a 4 after 8 hours at my job which is pretty strenuous and very physical. Which is a great trend. Been doing anywhere from 5 or 6000 MG of vitamin c a day when I work to about 10000 a day on days I don't. Got some pills at 1000mg made from rosehip extract for work. I drive a truck, so every couple hours I throw a couple down to keep the level elevated in my system. I swear by it. It won't help overnight, but I see the trend and like it
