- In this episode of Tuna On Toast, Stryker interviews Brent Smith, lead singer of Shinedown! Brent starts out talking about an elderly fan who recently went viral because of her love for Shinedown. He also discusses the band’s hugely popular 2008 album, ‘The Sound of Madness,’ and why it was such a major moment in Shinedown’s career. Brent looks back on his early days, his upbringing, and the band he was in before Shinedown. Brent opens up to Stryker about his previous battles with addiction and his journey to sobriety. He also tells Stryker about his friend Jellyroll and explains why he’s so happy to see the singer’s success. Shinedown’s song “A Symptom of Being Human” is a huge radio hit for the band, and Brent tells Stryker all about how it came together. Brent also discusses the ‘90s rock bands who influenced him and reveals who would be on his ‘90s rock Mount Rushmore. Shinedown has toured with some legendary acts, including Van Halen and Kiss, and Brent explains how he learned from every experience. Towards the end of the interview, Brent even reveals that Shinedown is working on new music! Subscribe to Tuna On Toast, follow us on socials, and thanks for supporting the show!

I heard 'Symptom...' for the first last week. WtF AMAZING!! so listening to their other stuff. I've been living under a classic rock/country bush.
His comment about feeling music in the moment.... I feel bad that you haven't got my money sooner. Rock on Shinedown! Thank you. You remind me of Sturgill Simpson in his music thought.
I know how you feel I only became a fan in 2013. I don't understand why because I loved Godsmack and 3 DD and how did I not of hear them.
Shinedown’s a great band! My favourite song of them is Sound of Madness
Sound of Madness was my introduction to Shinedown and it blew me away. Now I have them all and I'm looking forward to the next one. Never get tired of hearing these guys.
Brent is such a real, down-to-earth person. I love that he cares so much about his fans and humanity! 💗
My absolute favorite band of all time. I go to see them every time they are in town and they never disappoint!
Brent is amazing! Just love listening to him in this interview. Shinedown is amazing!!
I freakin LOVE this man and all the guys in Shinedown. Brent reminds me of my son SO much! But these guys are just SO good, decent humans and someone others can look up to for all ages. So much enjoyed this man! Thanks so much!
Yes granny! We DO listen and love Brent's Shinedown!!!! Peace to all of you and more amazing music from Shinedown!!!!!!
Gonna be 65, love me some Shinedown.
Wonderful interview. Brent and Shinedown are such an amazing band. Love them! ❤️
So much wisdom in his words that many aspiring artists should take to heart as it obviously is coming from his heart. I'm a huge music fan regardless of the genres because of guys like this.
Brent's interviews are always amazing he inspires and motivates people more I think than he realizes. Shinedown is phenomenal ❤ My new catch phrase "Let's fucking go!"❤
One thing about Brent in particular is that his Aquarius (advant guarde, personal freedom) Moon (emotions) refuses to be pigeon holed or constrained in any way.
My first show was 3 doors down and shinedown in Huntsville AL. I had heard fly from the inside on the radio and 45 had just started playing.
love this man and his words🐿
Fan forever. Ean Evans/ LS / BASS player/ my late husband. ❤❤❤
it's a big interview, thank you ! Shinedown have a lot of great songs, they suppress each other - to my minde -, a lot of them don't have time to run their course,( dysfunctional..clueless and...hope..sure is fun.. what a black humor to my minde).... and what good lyrics, some shocking, "what a shame To judge a life that you can't change" - a basic truth that must burn into you like "symptom..." to my opinien. I love it: "You're the fake, fallen, force of nature, sick mind..." 💥
I’m mostly a classic older hard rock fan. And I don’t like very many alternative rock bands. But these guys are BA. The music and his voice are paramount. I hope they keep putting out music and I will always listen and rock with also their music is great for working out
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

An unfinished story
Every major song that isn't a cover,, in regards to Shinedown, had its lyrics stolen off the Manson forums. Sympathy for Being Human didn't come in a flood. It was taken off the Manson forums. Calling it a gift is a fvkn insult to the writer. ME!
I had previously commented asking for proof, but I don't need it. I watched your video regarding the 100 artists that "stole" lyrics from you. Heavy accusations like that often come with a lawsuit of some sort, so after 100 people doing this to you, one would assume you're pretty wealthy. I feel this is not the case. You wrote something this one time, and someones lyrics got close, and now everyone has stolen from you. You tried to claim fame to some serious bands lyrics. People like Brent Smith, Michael Paulson, Brandon Boyd, etc., have zero issues giving credit where it's due. That is not your case sir.
@@1toomanypubgrub one day a styleometry expert is gonna research what I've said, and you, like all the rest, who WAS NOT FVKN ON THE MANSON FORUMS BETWEEN 1996-2012, can suck it.
Um, if this is your song, you should probably get the title straight. It's called "A Symptom of Being Human." Sorry sir, but you are completely full of shit.
