I’m not sure without seeing it. But I did learn as you saw in video that the cutter has to be sitting on a level surface. And you do have to press down with firm intention ✅ I hope that helps.
@@TheSewingChannel Could be-I just got done cutting 152 triangles yesterday, multiple layers. Pressure should be steady and of course no "dips" in the table. :)
I agree!! Most "unboxing" was actually previously unboxed, tried, planned out, returned to the Box and then made a video. Yours was the most honest, awesome video ever! I have been trying to decide between this and stripology. Thanks for an honest demonstration!😉💕
Follow up, I saw a woman with a neurological disorder get hers to work, so I tried again. It took me patience and repetition, but I was able to cut straight strips of fabric for my binding. Given how difficult to impossible it is for me to hold a rotary cutter steady against a ruler, I will continue to use this to the best of my ability.
I’m just trying mine no luck I got a dip in my table though, tried putting a book under it, cut a little Not sure if it’s worth it I’ll try another table when I got more time later!! Back to the rotary cutter it is for now!!
@@TheSewingChannel IKR!!!! ROFL!!!! It was definitely refreshing to see because we ALLLLL have those moments and feel like the odd man out...like what am I missing here...I'm not un-intelligent?!?! LOL Great job for keeping it real chica!
I got this, this morning with a coupon, and it cuts like butter. I put it on my cutting mat, on a solid table, and it works perfectly. You do not have to push hard, so it is perfect for me, as I have a bad neck that hurts some days. I am not taking it back.
I've not seen one of these cutters before. Nice to see an HONEST, straight-from-the box experience complete with all the frustration and problem solving included. Think I'll just stick with my Olfa rotary cutters and cutting matts. Would be much faster in the long run. Obvious, the engineer who came up with this poorly designed product isn't a quilter!!! Thanks for your review, Tracy!
I needed a good laugh today. So nice to see an honest unboxing. You looked like I did when I first used mine nice to know I wasn’t the only one. Thanks again, good too see you finally got it.😂💕
Fiskars really stand by their products! I bought a paper cutter and the blade and wire broke. They sent me a completely new paper cutter! Customer service was extremely courteous and pleasant. I wish other companies were half as nice!
The edge of the table might be straighter than the middle so try cutting along the edge instead of across the center. I saw the problem a minute before you did because my table has the same sag in the center.
You cracked me up 😂you reminded me of me talking to myself. I just got one at 40% off and the last one to 😂😂. I’m almost to the end of the video and I can’t help but laugh and thank you for making my day. Let’s see how long I keep this thing
It's not the brand of cutter - it's the blade. Change your blade and see the difference. I have both brands of rotary cutters and it's always the blade needing to be changed that's the problem.
Hi there. I thought about this item a long time too and I wanted it for a long time. Unfortunately I was disappointed and I never use it 😕 BUT some people do really like it. ✅ maybe get it and take back if it doesn’t work out for you. Good luck. 🍀
I have arthritis in my hands and using a rotary cutter is difficult. I got this an my experience has been somewhat like yours. I was so disappointed, but I wonder if practice might make it better, I hope.
I just bought Fiskar's Rotary Bypass Trimmer and can't get it to cut -same issue you are having. There are no instructions with the cutter, no instruction on Fiskar website.
I was using it the right way. It does not work well with foam for sure. It cuts fabric but I don’t think it cuts any better than a hand held. It is not my favorite tool. I never use it in normal sewing. ✂️👍✂️
Absolutely shouldn't be that hard Sandra...LOL but it was! The crazy thing is ....I waited so long to purchase because I looked at it like "not necessarily needed item"....but was so excited when I finally did purchase it....but then I never used it....I ended up giving it to someone that just started sewing to help them out (and to help me get rid of it LOL)😂
I wanted to buy myself this tool because I am not satisfied with the rotary cutters which always leave me with uncut threads. I thought it was the miracle solution but when I see your video I feel like I see myself. After use, do you still think it is not effective at all. I don't want to buy and not use it because it's relatively expensive all the same.
I bought this cutter the other day and i swear its the most difficult thing i have ever worked with lol. I dont think i will be using it much to be honest
Not everyone has a perfectly flat surface to work on and the issue you are having is because the aluminium profile is stiff and will not dip in the middle , you would be better off with a 600mm x 150mm plastic ruler which would flex a little and an ordinary rotary cutter, then you could use the cutter on it's own to do curves or trim corners etc., and the ruler for the straight stuff. once you have learned how to use the markings on these rulers to guage widths properly you will wonder how you managed without one. PS I watched one of your bare basics the other day and have to dissagree with your correct way round for the toilet roll example because the paper should hang AWAY from the wall so that anything that may be on your hand that you would not want to pass to another will go down the pan and not on the wall. Regards from the UK
john theoldmod Yes I have what you mention… I just thought maybe this might work better… although the jury is still out yet I am cutting foam as we speak and trying to get used to it. ✅✂️❤️
john theoldmod I just re read your post lol. Um the toilet paper reference had nothing to do with “what it’s intended for”. It was a metaphor for the ones learning as a visual reminder for which way the thread goes on. ✅
Thanks, no good for one layer or multiples. Takes way more effort than hand held cutter too. U less Fiskar can send you latest model and it works on what is for many a typical dippy table no point in wasting my money. No instructions is bad too. Blade could have snapped or cracked loose as it was, unsafe as it came to you. Won't be buying one. Loved your honesty and seeing effort you needed to make contact with fabric. Most want it easier than ha held cutter not harder. Had a good laugh too, for that I thank you too. Surprised Fiskar hasn't viewed this video and offered replacement unit for you to retest. Not doing so speaks loud and clear this product they won't stand by at all.
Lol it did get a bit exhausting trying to cut that foam. Later I realized I needed the larger rotary blade to cut the foam. --Unused old sewing tools sounds so fun!!!!!✅✂️
I tend to agree with you - it now sits in my sewing closet as it is not one of my “go to” tools. Sad but true. In theory it works but “not in the field” - thanks for watching. ✂️✅✂️
in my opinion this item is junk , you have to press hard to cut ,and it looks " unstable " i would be inclined to wear thick leather gloves , while using this " device " as it will collapse one day , and you might hurt yourself , i am a retired manager/lecturer of a private construction training center , css gold card holder , 40 years experience , stay safe ..........
Let me know if you own one of these cutters?
I bought the 12 inch cutter but it doesn’t cut well. What am I doing wrong?
I’m not sure without seeing it. But I did learn as you saw in video that the cutter has to be sitting on a level surface. And you do have to press down with firm intention ✅ I hope that helps.
@@TheSewingChannel I've never had a problem with mine. Read the instructions before I opened it, and I'm able to cut a couple layers at a time.
Maybe I got a lemon 🍋?

I've owned one for over 5 yrs. Finally was shown how to use it at my local quilt shop. They need to come with better instructions.
Could you explain how you are supposed to use it? I don’t know of a quilt shop near me.
Thanks for this honest demo for this product. Won't waste my money on this. Thanks! 😅😘

I think the difference is the solid table...mine works great too, on a 1.5 inch thick oak table top.

I have to agree. This was great. Thank you for this 😂 the 'if you're wondering if I got paid for this I did not' made me laugh.
I really enjoyed your video. I got mine yesterday and was so confused I had to watch a video. I did get a good laugh and I loved it!

Love your video! I am looking to purchase this cutter and your video is just what I needed to decide. Real-life review. Thanks!
You’re welcome. Some people really do love theirs. But I’m not a fan👍
You need to measure under the ruler and then it will work just fine. I have the 24” and the 12”.
They are great !
The edge of the table might be straighter than the middle so try cutting along the edge instead of across the center. I saw the problem a minute before you did because my table has the same sag in the center.
I’m sure it was very frustrating for you but this video made me laugh so much! I don’t know how you kept your cool ❤️❤️
Lol I think they (fiskars) need to pay me for my frustration lol 😂 I actually had the most fun editing that video. 🤓
What size ruler is that?
Loved every minute of this! 😂

I have the fiskars 45mm rotary cutter and Im going today to get an olfa. I think I could chew the fabric with my teeth and do a better job.
Lol I totally agree on most days!!!
It's not the brand of cutter - it's the blade. Change your blade and see the difference. I have both brands of rotary cutters and it's always the blade needing to be changed that's the problem.

That’s great. I have never gotten used to it I suppose. Thanks for feedback ✅
is the handle intended for hanging it up?
🤷🏻♀️
I have one and have cut through my quilt sandwich, it cut, but I couldn’t get an accurate cut.
Seems like some either love it or hate it✅
How do you like the Fisk are’s cutter/ruler? Thinking of getting one due to arthritis.
Anna....I never ended up using it so I gave it away....It was much easier for me to rotary cut the traditional way✅

I use the fiskars rotary ruler. Mine works like a charm. It looks like you were using a very dull blade.
