How to Make an Epic Sand Castle with Simple Tools | Our Outer Banks, NC Vacation Project 2018

- We made an epic sand castle using buckets and cheap tools you can find at the local store. This was our outer banks vacation project video.
We started by creating a solid base. We then used bucket forms to create the main volume of sand that we would be carving. We then followed the three basic rules for sand castle building:
1. Only use wet sand.
2. Build it like a pyramid.
3. Work from the top down.
When we were done for the day, we made sure to leave the beach the same way we found it. : )

very nice, it's true that you did all that with simple tools, but I think the ability to sculpt helped.

+wmaiuiet [zrugel] Ah LEGO. . . Now that would have been cool!! Thanks for the suggestion! As far as sculpting, I practiced on a big block to get the hang of the sculpting. First try was a little rough! : ) Once you start going at the sand it’s a lot easier than you might think. Just got to remember that the worst thing that can happen is you tear it down and start over. Which amounts to only 5 mins. So go at it and have fun!! : )

Have your ever had it fail right about at the end and you had to start all over again?
+Keegan Murray So far no 🤞, but I have come close. . . Especially when it’s really hot and the features are thin. (The sand dries and then any bump is catastrophic) The key is to work top down so that you work with the drying sand and once done with a section, you just move down to a steadier part. +Noah Johnson For the detail work, I used a piece of metal banding cut and bent into shape. I added tape on one end to make it more comfortable to handle. : )

WD40 SDS under Ecological Information. . . . I think the turtles will be fine. ; ) Especially given the small amount used. : ) Granted fish oil might be a better option next time. : )

using WD-40 for that can pollute the sand
WD-40 is not necessary to the process although it makes it a lot easier. : ) If there is a concern than no need to use it. That being said, given that WD-40 is insoluble in water and the whole point of the WD-40 is to prevent the bucket from sticking to the wet sand, the amount that might get in the sand is negligible. I appreciate the warning for those that might be concerned with this. I decided to look it up just in case, you never know! The MSDS has no warnings for ecological impact. : ) Thanks for watching!
