  • In todays video i take this 1962 LANE CEDAR CHEST and give it a complete top to bottom restoration. I didn’t use any paint and take this chest back to its glory day adding a wild modern twist to it. I hope you enjoy this project as much as i did. Thank you all for your support and words of kindness.

Yes Saran wrap over the stripper works great. I've used it several times already and just used it on three more dresser drawer fronts that I'm working on. Especially good if the old finishes heavy. You can leave it on overnight and it's still keeps it moist.

With MCM furniture, the lighter wood is usually Ash or Beech. When staining thst wood, it's a good idea to use a wood conditioner first. It helps with splotches and uneven staining. That piece is amazing 👏 especially the pull-out pieces.

Thank you so much for your feedback. Originally the back and bottom aren’t finished to begin with so I wanted to keep it as close to restored as possible. The inside isn’t finished either and this is because cedar doesn’t get a finish due to moths not liking the smell of it.

@@SUGR17 I thought about doing that but didn’t want to end up with something that didn’t match in color. Also, veneer is hard to get locally and I don’t think the pieces would have fit back into the slots.

I have one of these cedar chests and the top is the only area in need of refreshing. The top has water stains. (Shame on whoever did that! Probably my sister! ha) Is it possible to only refurnish the area on top and have it look good? I have never refinished furniture and I’m scared I’ll ruin it.

Hello tweetiebird, thank you for the question. You can definitely refinish the top alone to match the body. My only suggestion would be to use some sort of furniture wax to freshen up the body to make it match the freshly refinished top. If you have other questions or need some advice during the process, feel free to reach out and I will respond fairly quickly. Take care and stay safe.

Did you find replacement? Company is now shut down and recall for locks are no more replaced. Idk where to get replacement, please advice if you find solution. Also what to use to glue top wood layer back on properly, there is larger separation on the back of my chest. And that fluffy green satin feel inside of a little drawer, can I somehow remove and redo that green soft texture please?

Yes. I explained to the customer to get a recall lock when I sold it
