The footage at the 50-second mark is either Gambling Lady or Lady of Burlesque. I read a great anecdote in one of her obituaries about her role in The Colbys in 1985. One day she said to a young actress "Let's go. We've got a scene to do" The actress said "Well, I don't feel it right now. The vibes aren't right." So Stanwyck says "'Fuck your vibes! Get your butt in here and start acting!" No wonder directors loved her.
Unlike many of her contemporaries, Barbara's performances hold up so well; such a natural, honest and well - modern actress was she. Guess she is what is known as being a "timeless" performer
No, you're not alone. I agree with what Leigh says but *how* she says it is unconvincing. Luckily I'm a big Stanwyck fan and I don't need convincing to know that she was one of the greatest actresses ever to grace cinema.
Part of her success was the fact that she was not a conventional beauty (small eyes, long nose, flat chest). She was pretty enough that, with the right wardrobe and makeup, etc., she could play glamorous roles like the Lady Eve. But she was also plain enough to play dowdy women like Stella Dallas. This gave her a range that otherwise talented actresses like Kate Hepburn and Bette Davis could not match.

JJL sounds half asleep & bored talking about Stanwyck. Barbara was the greatest. To have Jennifer's opportunity to speak about her would be the highlight of my life, I'd hardly sound this disinterested. I much prefer Laura Dern's tribute, Dern's love for Stanwyck shines through everything she says.

Barbara Stanwyck was and is one of the greatest actresses of all time. How this woman never received an Oscar in her own right I'll never know!

The only miscasting I see here is Jennifer Jason Leigh playing the role of "the narrator".
