Love this one. I did the same last Xmas. They were so popular and funny enough I discovered exactly the same things and tips about them. Great to hear you had the same too.
This was excellent. I have been struggling with getting mine to get to the icy state, rather than the snowy state. I was not comfortable with taking them hotter because I want my molds to last. I am going to try your schedule. Thank you! Love your bowl and really appreciate your videos!
Hi Jim, I am working of course at the last minute to make some Christmas projects. I just watched your video on the snowflake color de verre mold. found it ver useful. I am about ready to program my kiln. My question is I have a larger two snowflake mold and also a smaller one, which has two snowflake mold and a color de verre mold. Can I fire them at the same time with the same schedule. I also bought the icicle color de verre mold on which has four icicles and has a firing schedule. Have you ever fired these together? If so what schedule did you use.
Sorry, I’ve never used the icicles mold before but I fire all my snowflakes using that same schedule posted in the video notes, no matter what size they are, all in the same load! I would assume you can do the same with the icicles too.
You mentioned the ‘rebar’ on the center vein…will dichroic glass work? Have you tried using very chunky glass? How did that turn out? Before everyone comes at me, I’m trying for ideas? I’m making ALOT of notes, I’m getting ideas and opinions. I have nit even bought my kiln yet. I really want to know.
I have not tried dichroic but would think it would be fine? I have not used larger chunks as that was not the look I was going for but I’m certain it could be cool, just need to fine-tune a firing schedule that gets you the outcome you are looking for.
Spy de Argentina y me gusyaria saber donde conseguir esos moldes para trabajar. Aqui la corriente que se usa es 220 v o en algunos casos 380 v . Muchas gracias.
In Wash DC area I sell large ones for $25 and small ones for $10. It makes it much more economical to get more than one mold and do them in batches. Also as you get the hang of them, they take less time to make. He was going through this slowly to make teaching points.
Gosh, as long as the snowflakes lift out nicely, I don’t worry about reapplying Zyp. If there are any noticeable scratches or flakes missing that look like it’s exposing the ceramic, that’s when I brush out some of the old Zyp and reapply. A link to Zyp spray? I use the aerosol version, and lots of online retailers carry it (in the US). I would prefer not to favor one particular seller.
@@JamaisonSchuler hello again - I ordered teh zyp directly from the manufacturer but selected the non aerosal version, im not sure that was the best choice - it seems hard to get an even coat - thanks for sharing your work!
I’ve often read to elevate the mold and reheat it until the glass comes out. These are very delicate molds so you don’t want to do much poking and prying. I believe the manufacturer recommends boron nitride spray for these molds.
Yes, although the snowflake molds are deep enough you may not need to elevate? The mold maker - Colour de Verre -- is very responsive. I would find an email for them and reach out for their expertise. Don’t just ask a guy on UA-cam. 😉
That’s what the ZYP is! It’s a mold release recommended by the mold company because it better fills the mold pores without loosing mold details than brush on kiln wash. It’s expensive, but lasts a very long time on the mold and less likely to stick to the glass.
I am SO frustrated with these snowflake molds!! I cannot get the amount of frit correct. I've weighed it, I've eyeballed it, I've educated guessed it and still I end up with anorexic flakes that I have to fire again or obese flakes with no definition. I am tempted to give up but the molds were so expensive i can't justify quitting. Grrrrrrr!
Thank you! Finally a video on exactly how to fill a snowflake mold!

I have a sugar writer that I use for frit, never thought to use it for the snowflakes!

Good luck! Hope the schedule works for your kiln like it does for me!
Very thorough and helpful video. Thank you for sharing your experience in such a clear manner.
OMG! I LOVE you! Such awesome videos and tips! Thank you for sharing. You make me fearless! 😄
Yay!
Great tutorial. I’m into stained glass right now, but very curious about fused glass 😊
Thank you so much for your helpful tutorial. I’m new to this and it’s given me the confidence to go ahead and try 🤞.
Great tutorial ❣️❣️ Love the sugar writer tip💕
Great video. Wish the schedule was for 96 coe as well. Brightened my day for sure.
Colour de Verre publishes a COE 96 schedule on their tip sheet. Check the link I provided and give it a try?
@@JamaisonSchuler Thank you, I have the molds but I am not overly successful with them. This video will be a great help.
Thanks for the tips!

Hi, do you have an example schedule for a frostier finish? Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge, I'm learning alot.
Have you looked at the tutorial on Colour de Verre’s website? They give some different schedules to try…
Great videos, very helpful! Thanks!

I’m sorry, I really don’t have any recommendations for where to source the molds outside the United States.
Hi Jamaison, I can't find the Wilton sugar rider on the Michael's website, also searching Amazon. I would love to get one!
www.amazon.com/dp/B06X3RMQND/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_t1_6yTOFbH4N327Z
I found it!! I was looking at rider vs writer. . . duh! BTW, not on Michaels, but on JoAnn's
@@dawnknaack2897 And Amazon.
I bought mine in store but more than a year ago. So perhaps they no longer carry it or only in store?
Another super video ! Thanks a million. How about a link to those files please ? You’re the best!
The link to the CdV instruction sheet is already included in the video description. Thanks!
@@JamaisonSchuler the diamond files?
@@sherrirowan5049 Ohhhh.... gotcha. These are the ones I bought: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0019N6CV8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
With all the time involved, how much do you see yourself selling these for? A price range? Thanks
I sell these for $20 or $17.50 each when buying two or more.

Great video! How do you manage to string your snowflakes if you want them as a n ornament?
I just loop some ribbon through it
awesome! Thanks.
How about purposely under filling clear and then finish fill with a color and re- fuse? Just thinking out loud 😀
Yes, that could look very nice. I’ve made some with color and they are also lovely.
How do you know when you need to use a new coat of zyp and can you please add a link for the spray - your snowflakes are looking good! thank you

@@lisabaywoodpark I’ve never tried that version but I’ve heard very mixed results...
You could also draw with that cake thingy
Strwaws are good but I just got a sugar writer.
What options do you have when the glas sticks into the mold? I used shelfprimer but maybe not enough. I want to get it out without ruining my mold....

You do you have to put kiln wash on the mold?

Yes, mine end up smooth
