Making the first episode 90 min was probably the best decision i lot of people would have dropped the show if we could have only gotten the twist in ep 4 or 5
It payed off so much for them, everybody is talking about the show now, both in Japan and the world. It hit the top of most seasonal popularity pols and is growing faster then foocking Demon Slayer on MAL,if the hype keeps up it might surpass is for a couple weeks until DS takes it back,oh and it’s also top1 on MAL,not for long tho since the Full Metal Alchemist mafia is already working on it.
Unless if there are people who dropped the anime for the first 30 minutes or worse the first 3 seconds of the episode 1 and called it a day, making the first episode 90-minute movie long is actually a wise decision
Bro literally became RU Darby's uncle. The story goes that Darby's uncle went out west during the height of the gold rush to strike it rich, hired an entire excavation team, and called it quits just THREE FEET from striking gold!
This is the reason why it was a genius move to adapt the first 10 chapters as a movie length episode. I like the content of those chapters a lot but a lot of people would have dropped off if it took multiple episodes to get to the main hook
"main" character dying (getting killed) in an idol show = **NOW** I like it I'm so jealous on you people...I wish I also had such low standards when it comes to entertainment.
Recently learned that Rie Takahashi was a fan of the manga before she was casted to play Ai and she couldn’t believe when she was chosen to play the character that she liked so much, that explains why she poured all her soul into bringing her to life. This role was personal, from the cute,to the wholesome,to the heartbreaking moments everything she played was from her own feelings she had of the character and it shows, man…she definitely is one of the biggest factors of why people fell for Ai so bad.
Every character Rie voices becamed ICONIC and also CHARISMATIC, see how popular becamed Tomo last season and Megumin with her spinoff. Rie has the voice that would be on the same level of Koyasu Takehito as iconic roles
I was hoping you'd check it out and I'm glad you like it! My personal favorite thing about it is how well it handles trauma(specifically survivor's guilt in the character of Aqua) and how it really allows you to relate to the characters even though the plot is somewhat surreal.
Honestly, from the moment I heard that this anime was from the same author as Kaguya-sama, I was pretty sure that it would be a great even before I watched it. Oshi no Ko, in my opinion, was a shock and a hoax this season. The author made you think that the anime is an idol and a comedy anime at the beginning of the story, but by the end of the first episode, everything turned upside down. And it changed from a comedy anime to a revenge anime. This plutost was more than amazing and this is definitely the best new anime of the season for me.
Dude, i thought so too, and I cried when Ai died, and This is my first Experience in anime that like this, so am unprepared, I read novels a lot too, that's why it will be understandable if this have twist, cuz i have read many things, and now this anime got me hook cuz of that
Dude this is one of the hardest scenes I've had to watch in an anime. The way AI was captured in death still burnt in my mind. The way the light leaves her eyes was so heart wrenching.
not many people mention how Ai responded to the stalker with positivity. "Even now, I want to love you". While the stalker was filled with negative emotions, Ai never got mad or consumed by hatred. She was truly kind.
You could have talked another 20 minutes on her death scene. Watching the life leave her eyes. How she apologized to her killer. How she died holding aqua in her arms. How Ruby was just on the other side of the door not knowing what's going on.. there were not many animes that affected me as much as this scene
I'm so happy you're covering this series. Its top tier, breaks the mold, and very few new series really come close to the way Oshi No Ko goes about telling its story.
The anime has some of the best pacing in recent memory, I waited for it after the prologue ended and I'm not disappointed at all. It's so well made I don't see any reason to go back to the manga
The way you pronounced OB-GYN made me giggle. It’s said just like the letters, so “oh bee gee why en” is how you’d pronounce that!! Apart from that, stunning video, I always love hearing people’s reactions to the twist, especially when they dropped it early on.
Genuinely one of the best starts to a story I've seen so far and they couldn't have made a better decision than to release the first episode of the anime as a 90 minute movie. To be perfectly honest, if we didn't have the revenge set-up at the end of the prologue I would've been perfectly content with the 90 minutes we got as a tragic standalone movie about family and give an almost perfect score to it. Now, I have to live in constant fear to see if the quality manages to keep up or not (so far it has), and for some reason this is one where I actively don't want to read the source and just let myself be taken along the ride of the anime first. If you want to read another slice of life that gets into the darker sides of showbizz, try Act Age if you haven't already cuz that's a banger too. Now, what do we learn from this? Don't drop stuff too soon and continue until you are absolutely sure you've seen enough to determine that you actually want to stop. So, when's the Pandora Hearts video coming? xD
It's a disservice to yourself to *not* go into Oshi No Ko blind. The prologue both on manga and anime has probably the greatest storytelling ankle-break I will ever see
Just caught up to the manga and my god is it amazing. The mood spikes up and down every few chapters and the art and plot twists are amazing. Didn't take me any time to start loving it, but it also gets progressively better as it goes on. Has to be one of my favorites now.
The cool part about this series is after you read the amazing beginning it turns into a completely different series that has nothing to do with it. It's 2 in 1!
My favorite part about Oshi no Ko is how in depth the characters and their relationships are, as well as general commentary about the entertainment industry. I feel like the ‘revenge’ aspect is just a driver towards the story arcs, but it has fueled many great parts of the overall narrative.
I was in the same position as you, I read the first couple chapters until the babies starting talking. I dropped it thinking it would be stupid, but I was wrong af
i started reading the manga right after watching the first episode, i'm at chapter 101 rn and let me tell you honestly, with little to no spoilers, that in my experience the entire manga is somewhat like the first episode in a sense. most of it is idol/entertainment industry stuff and the rest is progressing the plot around aqua's revenge. just wanted to let you know for anyone expecting a complete tone change after the first episode, and for it to become a pure revenge/mystery focused plot, it's not really like that. for those who are also somewhat invested in aqua and ruby's journey in the entertainment industry, you will probably have a good time reading this manga. and of course as i said they will be progressing the plot around aqua's revenge and there will be more twists and turns around that, so if you can enjoy both sides of the story, i'd definitely recommend reading the manga.

To be honest, when I read a quick summary of the story I thought it was weird as hell and didn't want to watch it. But when I found out that one of my favourite VAs, Rie Takahashi voices a character in the anime, I decided to give it a try. Best decision of my life
I'm glad you finally came around to like it, I dropped it after the twist, and then started reading it again before the anime aired. Oh also I got lovely little fantasy adventure manga I found it's pretty recent with 12 chapters but I forgot the name. Story is about ram looking giant magical beast adopting the heir of a kingdom he destroyed. And the story then follows a broken hero as an advisor and an adorable prostitute as the babysitter. I will try and see if I can find it in adventure section again, I forgot to bookmark the manga and now I'm.suffering.😭
At first I thought nah this is messed up, I thought the story will be around Ai and the doctor. Then I was wrong again when I thought it will be between Ai and her children making their way to be the best family of idol kinda like slice of life and fun. I am now in a debate whether should I read the manga or just wait every week for a new episode in Netflix.
The show absolutely would not have worked if the first episode was not 80 minutes. Had it been the standard 20 minutes, the twist would’ve been revealed in episode 5 or 6, which would make tons of people who otherwise would enjoy the show, drop it thinking it isn’t what they’re into (just like how you dropped the manga). It also just doesn’t work as multiple episodes since, as the show states, it _is_ just a prologue, it isn’t the main story. Had it released in 20 minute episodes, they would’ve taken up half of the episodes, leaving barely any time for the actual story. Overall, making ep 1 so long was easily the best decision possible.
Author explaining ep1 to people: "So basically a cancer patient girl is all like "Hey doc, look at this 16 year old girl I am obsessed with isn't she the best? Anyway I'mma die" then the doctor who is the MC becomes obsessed with the same girl (it's not weird like that I swear!!!!!!!!). Then that girl gets pregnant and ends up a patient at MC's hospital and he's her doctor!!! Then then he gets murdered! Thankfully he is reincarnated though and is birthed by the 16 year old girl he was obsessed with and now she's his mom omg! And now he's being treated like a baby whilst he has the brain of a fully grown man! This isn't a fetish of mine I swear!!!!! Also the dead cancer girl was reincarnated as the MC's twin and she sucks the 16 year old mommy waifus boobs!!! But yeah then things take a serious turn... Our beloved 16 year old mommy waifu girl is murdered by the same guy who killed the MC earlier! Oh no! And the MC must track down the man who killed her to get his revenge!!"
Yeah pretty average in a nutshell. Any one with two brain cells to rub together could see the 'plot twist' coming. The manga paces out as the MC wanting revenge on his daddy.
I didn’t know it was from Kaguya-sama’s author, so I had no expectations from it. Perhaps because of that, I had an inkling that it would delve into the more dramatic aspects rather than focusing on easygoing slice of life. Regardless, ever since I started reading it, it’s been my favorite manga of any ongoing run at the moment.
I was WAY more surprised by the doctor dying. I totally saw Ai's death coming for some reason, so I wasnt surprised at all. Dont get me wrong, I was already hooked before Ai's death so I didnt need the shock factor, but thats what makes me wonder why some people like this youtuber needed the twist to actually care about the story.
Goosebumps after that whole first episode. Fuck had to smoke like 3 cigs just to process what I witnessed I loved it more than any first episode of any anime I’ve seen in a long time
Once I heard to that it was from Aka Akasaka, I was sold. I'll watch anything based of their work after the blessing Kaguya-sama has been. Glad I wasn't spoiled, as that twist rocked me, and the animation was horrifying.
Same reaction as yours lmao I died crying never thought that she is gonna fucking die i mean it was soo unexpected. The rage in your voice bro that scene I just thought it was some delivery or something not the stalker 😭 I can't wait I eont usually read manga but I wanna stay anime only
@The Masked Man Three things lol. I need to see the Anime Heavenly delusion and it also has a Manga which I didn't know oof. Also have you heard of Ghost In The Shell ?and if so, what are you're thoughts? Because there's countless Manga, and Anime adaptations of Ghost In The shell. I'm still watching the Anime Stand Alone complex for Ghost in the shell. Also do you like 80's -90's Anime or Manga? Cause I'd love to recommend you some really cool older Anime series/Manga. I also like some 70's Anime. :)
From what I gathered without watching or reading anything it looked like madoka magika but with pop idols. Something about those eyes scream existential horror
The anime hooked me with Ai's death especially the eyes going darker with the light leaving the eyes and the way aqua has his eyes go darker the art is so good
When I started to read it at the jump app I kept going just out of curiosity, cause of the entertainment industry stuff, i was so surprise when it happened and soon after the anime was announced, so I told about it to my gf and managed to keep it a secret from her till the anime release just so I could see her reaction, it took almost a year but it was so worth it.
If you thought that twist was late, you should read the Fuuka Manga. It's absolutely one of my favorites and the twist happens like 30 or 40 chapters in.
Honestly, I think that sarina (or ruby) is way more suited as the main character, because (spoiler) the reincarnation was only of good profit to her. After the crow girl talked to her to lead her to the answer, which she did find out, she changed. She was an absolute icon after she realized, that aqua wanted to kill their dad. Aquas whole personality is awesome, really, but it’s just about revenge and not much else. I personally used to prefer aqua over ruby but after reading the later parts of the manga, her character got way better than her brothers. She didn’t have a supportive mother, which made ai her mother figure that she really needed. After her death, she also grieved, but didn’t change, so she could fulfill her mothers wish for her to become an idol, and because she didn’t have the guilt that aqua had. She knew that she herself couldn’t do anything to kill her father but she knew, that he was still alive. She knew how messed up the industry was. I could honestly go on forever, because this series is insane and I love it.
I dropped it immediately after the twist because it couldn't make up for how awful the writing was. Hell, the writing pretty much ruined the twist by having Ai explain her sad back story followed by her saying "I sure hope nothing bad happens!" moments before it happening. I can see why they needed to make the first episode 90 minutes, for as little impact as the twist had, the latter half of the episode was way better than the first. The first 20 minutes were just abysmal and borderline unwatchable for me.
Making the first episode 90 min was probably the best decision i lot of people would have dropped the show if we could have only gotten the twist in ep 4 or 5
Fr it was a great premiere/marketing strategy

To be honest, when I read a quick summary of the story I thought it was weird as hell and didn't want to watch it. But when I found out that one of my favourite VAs, Rie Takahashi voices a character in the anime, I decided to give it a try. Best decision of my life
3:45 bro my ears god I have to go to the doctor now because of you thanks
The first episode was kinda information overload but it set the story all and good
I'm glad you finally came around to like it, I dropped it after the twist, and then started reading it again before the anime aired.
Honestly bro first episode make sense but after next episodes are just much much boring specially conversations 😢
I love how the anime is true to the manga especially
glad you gave it another shot. but when is the 40 min hells paradise video
Hopefully this week
3:44 Degenerocity spirit kicks in
Just an fyi in case of future videos; Gorou is pronounced like "Goro-u", the u sound is just used at the end of the "Ro" sound.
When my friend read me the description I was like “huh? That’s weird yucky yucky!!!” And the I watched it then I was like “woooow that was amazing!!!”
now i won't complain about spoilers. but i WAS wearing headphones🥲
Author explaining ep1 to people:
"So basically a cancer patient girl is all like "Hey doc, look at this 16 year old girl I am obsessed with isn't she the best?
The Masked Man: The fundamental twist happens in the first 5 chapters.
Tokyo Ghoul: takes 7 volumes
I actually dropped it after the "twist" only because I was super bummed. but I may try going back into it.
I liked that the first episode was over an hour definitely kept me interested
Same reaction as yours lmao I died crying never thought that she is gonna fucking die i mean it was soo unexpected. The rage in your voice bro that scene I just thought it was some delivery or something not the stalker 😭 I can't wait I eont usually read manga but I wanna stay anime only
Caught up to the Manga in just 1 day, gotta say it's worth it, can't wait for tommorow's chapter
how do you know when the chapters come out, is there a website or something that says when they come out?
@@NikoWoofs a chapter on Wednesday every two weeks
@@Shahzad-ss1jq oh thanks
I heard rhythm thief music in the background of this video, so immediately subscribed
"SHE DIES!!!!" - proceed to play pain's theme song
obgyn? lmaooooo he gotta be trolling
"twist" = """good"""
When the twist happened I was like "Damn, cute anime got hands"
@The Masked Man
Three things lol.
The anime hooked me with Ai's death especially the eyes going darker with the light leaving the eyes and the way aqua has his eyes go darker the art is so good
Thank you, you've finally repremanded your previous manga video, stopping at 5 chapters instead of 10 was a sin.
3:45 you scared the living shit out of me
If you thought that twist was late, you should read the Fuuka Manga.
