Nice work! Very interesting to see the system in action :) Notes/Takeaways: - In the next system update you will be able to apply damage/healing from any dice roll. This will make healing spells a little bit easier to use until they get fully automated. - Heroic abilities are not automatically applied, only the WP deduction is. Same with non-damage spells. - Darrow was Dazed, hence the Bane on a couple of his Evade rolls. In the latest system version you can expand the die roll chat card to see which banes/boons were applied to the roll. - I learned that it needs to be possible to add boons & banes to death rolls. - I hope to improve the damage chat cards in the future (undo, display old & new hp, etc) to make things more user friendly. - Also thanks for the nice words about the system in general
PS Don't forget to read the Instructions journal that comes with the system. You'll learn some new tricks, I'm sure, especially now that you have some experience under the belt.
oooooh thank you kindly! Darrow here! first of all, what a lovely system you've made, applåder applåder. as a complete noob to Foundry, i was going nuts not being able to apply the healing! after reading your comment, i can relax again.
Hey there Patrik. Im also going to use Foundry for a Dragonbane campaign. Was making my own foundry system, just to learn, but I'm using yours, as its the official one :) Thanks!
Recently got Dragonbane and have been enjoying it a lot. Recently found you guys and enjoyed the live play. Liked and Subscribed hope to see more Dragonbane and other minor games that don’t get enough attention.
Just a note. Rallies happen as an action on a players turn (and does not need to be done in the round that HP is reduced to 0), not as soon as someone is reduced to 0 HP. Also, the death rolls, just for clarity, are not done on the round that HP is reduced to 0, but on subsequent rounds. If a player has not taken their action in the current round and is reduced to 0 HP, they cannot take an action that round (except to rally themselves), but they will not make their death roll until the next round. Being reduced to 0 HP is like being knocked out of combat; rallying signifies that you muster your last bit of strength to get up and keep going. This can be done at any point prior to being healed by another player (as you cannot heal yourself from 0 HP with a Healing roll) or prior to three successful or three failed death rolls. As noted, taking damage after rallying but while still at 0 HP means you get an automatic death roll fail added to your total. Cheers! You all did very well for a first time run through with a new system on a new interface. I've enjoyed watching and following along as it's provoked me to read up on the rules as I prepare to begin GMing my first group with this very soon. Thanks again.
thanks for the reminder! I think we've had to do death rolls one other time recently. It's a good refresher. We get a better handle on the rules as we go (22 sessions so far), but I'm sure we're still missing things here and there.
Maybe you already found out, but you get to move 1 square (2m) on a successful dodge (p. 47 Movement). There is an optional rules to move 1 square (2m) after a successful parry (p. 45 Parry Movement). And there is an optional rule to shove an enemy 1 square (2m) if you successfully hit someone in melee, and you have at least the same (or higher) STR dmg bonus (p.45 Shove).
Just a small addition. After a successful parry, you can move two meters in any direction; but, you can also move the enemy two meters in any direction.
Loved Jason's "Oh Shit!" moment @ 48:10, when he nearly 1-shots Jess! Thankfully, Cerriel's Rally & Darrow's healing magic saved her from making TAA history by dying before taking a single action as her Dragonbane character. 🧝♀️
As mentioned in a reply below, I'm not writing this as a critique on you for missing some rules on your first go around. You did swimmingly. I'm doing this for others who will come here to get introduced to Dragonbane. At 1:55:07, the "free attack" would not be triggered because the Worg Rider was moving "around" the player. As long as you stay within two meters of the enemy, there is no triggered free attack. Thank you very much for your ability.
No worries! I appreciate the rules reminders in the comments because I know many people come to these videos to see a game play out before they run their own.
Again Thank you Jason and All. Really enjoyed episode 1. DB can be brutal, One shot Jess's character , wow ! Well still look forward when i get to play DB 👍. And Love Matz's Darrow voice ! Thanks All.
Looking forward to Darrow casting a spell with the magic words "sju sjösjuka sjömän" in his halfling voice. And have his companions try casting the spell, clearly demonstrating why he is the wizard and they are not ;)
Nice job with the goblin backing up. A good way of "fudging" but it makes sense and doesn't actually rob the players of agency. Its a realistic reaction on the goblin's part
There is an optional rule called "Severe Injuries." Once your HP is reduced to 0, make a Con roll. If you fail, roll on the severe injury table. It's a way to have a bit of lasting consequence for taking damage equal to or greater than your HP.
Also, it seems like maybe you forgot about "waiting" in combat. That's one rule that adds a large amount of tactical depth to combat. Lewey, for example, after activating "musician," would have been able to wait the next next round regardless of what his initiative card was in order to extend the duration of the effect.
Thanks! We were definitely learning the game as we went, so you're going to be typing a lot if you try to point out all the mistakes we make in the early episodes, haha.
@@TheWeeklyScroll Indeed. Did you continue with the campaign!? I'm going through the rulebook myself right now. I've read through it once and am now preparing my first session by getting it ready on AlchemyRPG VTT and watching your session! You did amazing and the quality of your video is great. I'm not writing this as a critique for you but as a note for others who are getting into the game using this video as a learning resource of how to play (for which it does great). Thank you for your contribution!
The skill increase is like Call of Cthulhu. This game has some of the best things of so many great games! The fragility of the PCs like Call of Cthulhu is nice too!!
Yeah, to me, this is such a great mesh of simple, modern rules that also respect the OSR with its brutality. I FAR prefer skill-based games like this than leveling. You know it's always an interesting game when the party almost suffers a TPK in the opening encounter. We get a better handle on the rules as the campaign progresses, so please forgive any errors we make.
Nothing in the rules says you cant try to Rally yourself or anyone else every round. Under Death (p. 50) it says you cannot move or perform any actions except trying to rally. As mentioned, it is very dangerous to get damaged while rallied.
Many of the maps come from the Foundry VTT system and are in the adventure book while others I grab from online to suit the narrative (theater of the mind maps) or I will make my own if I need a battle map that isn't in the book. The fog is a weather add on for Foundry. You can have many kinds of ambient weather.
@@TheWeeklyScroll uhm... when I open the playlist from your channel page, I see the episodes in reverse order: EP 25 at number 1 and EP 0 at number 27. What am I doing wrong?
Regular Goblins are NPCs, not monsters. There’s some odd divides between the two (NPCs/Monsters) in the books as to which are which . But basically the “normal” humanoid species (goblins, orcs, etc) are not considered monsters. So they follow rules like players.

Thanks for checking it out! The plan for now is to possibly run the whole campaign from the Dragonbane box set, so you'll definitely be seeing more!
Purchased Dragonbane 2 weeks ago and have become smitten with it - I'm running for my troupe this weekend.

To read the spell description you need to click the edit button. Is a thing I don't like but the vore module can improve that.
When the combat go to another round the cards draw automatically. You don't need to click again to take a new card ;)
Left Click triggers the spell/skill and Right Click opens the description of the spell/skill

where did you get for your background image in foundry at the beginning? the mountains with mist moving.
It was a photobash of stuff I found online. If you check the comments section, I posted a link to download after someone requested it.
