  • Over the June long weekend locomotives 6029 and 4501 operated shuttles from Bathurst to Wimbledon as part of Transport Heritage NSW's Bathurst Steam Weekend. Here we see the train at a couple of locations, including climbing Tumulla Bank, on Sunday the 9th.

Lovely scenes, good panning shots and well chosen locations. Some excellent still shots in there, too - the whistle is crisp and the "fluttery" one shows a firemans/drivers "hand" very nicely.

A Garratt pulling a passenger train , and the indignity of a back-up diesel !

I can't complain too much, it removes the need to run around at the end of the trip which gives us more shuttles.

Correct. It’s push pull. There’s no siding or loop at Wimbledon where the train runs to.

The diesel is required only if there is a mechanical problem with the steam loco. This has been a requirement for many years now. You'll probably find that the diesel is "free wheeling".

In suburban Melbourne, the banking loco is usually another steam loco. My concerns is the computerized systems won’t be able to allow a loco to run around and the points will have been removed anyway.

@@darylcheshire1618 What's that got to do with a Garratt and a Bathurst shuttle ? Both are a long way from Melbourne .

I started out thinking that the first couple of shots were a bit static and that pan and zoom would be more interesting. You then answered my view by doing just that.
Great filming, thanks for posting this.

Nice footage. Shame about the diesel! Is this the only operational Standard Gauge Garratt in the world?
