Dennis, once again you have helped me fix a reel. Last week, with your video on the Penn 720 and the suggestions you made, you have saved me! Now again, you have helped me with my Mitchell 306 click spring! This is also one of my favorite reels and I can keep using it! Thanks again! John

I didn’t ask this, another Chris did and Dennis gave a great answer. I don’t know any spools that are easier to fix the click springs on than the French Mitchells. They have extraordinary simple and effective designs on their spools as well as all the French Mitchells. Thank you for doing short video answers to question. You e-mailed many answers to my issues over the past few years. I am on my last day of a week long fishing trip to the NC coast. I used a Mitchell 4470 reel in the surf for the first time. I had used Power Pro braid backed with mono. and the reel did fantastic. You can’t beat a French Mitchell in good condition. It is a reel you can trust! That’s why I have 42 of them!

Cleaning a 300c of my father in law’s and found the click spring installed with loop on the right and also found a paper type washer under drag tension spring. Does this seem right to you? Maybe the paper washer goes under the spool and things didn’t get put back together right at some point. Haven’t seen any vids about the 300c so not sure what changes if any there were. So thanks love your channel it’s helped me a lot.

The 300C is basically the same reel as the 300. I don't recall seeing a paper washer in any of the 300 series, so it is possible someone made a shim out of one. The click spring on the reel should rest against the left side of the inner case if that spring is the long flat bar with the hook on the end that nests on the stud in the dog. - Dennis

Does the Mitchell 314 have a different spool than the 300? I recently picked up a 314 and mixed the spool up with my 300 spools. I have tried every spool and I cannot get the spool to click onto the axle.

I don't think they are the same. I think the 314 would not be a tall?? Bottom to top as the 300. If you are trying to get the 300 spool on and it is Tyler, then the snap would not engage. The 314 is a version of the 304 not the 300 - Dennis

Thats not the setup in earlier 300's. Those have an actual arrowhead shaped gear and concentrically bent spring that causes the drag ratcheting sound. I pulled one of mine apart and that's how it's setup.

Yes - the spools did change over the 40 years of production
