It is great to see a Canadian company doing so well in the USA market with their commercial splitters. It makes my heart proud. That big round for firewood certainly gave the 2 of you a work out. That is one case where that extra tall 4 way wedge would have been useful. One tip I've used on splitting monster rounds with a maul, is to use the maul as a wedge with a handle. Tap it with a dead blow hammer and it will split the pieces with far less effort than swinging it.
It's so great that the channel is making friends and connections. I still intend to fly over from the U.K one day to help out and meet Cookie and Woody.
The 12 22 is an awesome splitter. We have 1 and have put through around 2000 face cord. It works great. Andrew brought me the 37D to try. Oh my God it is a beast. We put through 50 face cord on 4 gallon of diesel. 60 cord in 6.8 hrs. It will play you out
Just my opinion, Eastonmade is the best splitter available in the industry. Andrew and his team know what it takes to design, build and supply a top quality product and business.
Thanks for the video! That splitter is a beast! She'd keep a couple of good workers and several kids busy feeding it. I can see what you're saying, that the person(s) feeding it are the limiting factor! It certainly has the power. A couple of times we saw it cut through cross-grain wood with no problems.
I always buy the best equipment I can find. I've had my 12-22 for a year. When it comes to loving that Eastonmade, I second that emotion! I've also had a Super Split for 40 years and I run four Husqvarna saws. Shalom /gw P.S. I bought a "Tall Boy" 4-way wedge two months ago. Fantastic!
I agree. These are awesome machines. I always say. “If anyone wants to know how great of a machine the Easternmade is. Just try finding one for sale on the second hand market? There are none. These are a lifetime purchase”
I used to do a craft show in Illinois and there was one in Wis. the next weekend but I could never do both until I retired. We were always treated poorly in Il., when I went to Prairie du Chien Wis. they were all wonderful people and they taught us what a FIB was.
That is the exact splitter I'm saving up for, just like Tony said, he wanted a something heavy duty that will last a lifetime and I'm certain with the amount I split per year that I'll be in the same camp as him, plus just like him, it seems like the majority of my wood rounds are above 24" making a lift a life saver.
Awesome video and Eastman Made splitter. I wish I had something like that 15-20 years ago. Now my lower back is about 70% shot. I still plug along with my 27 ton Cub Cadet splitter, splitting 10 cords of oak every fall for my boiler.👍
Hi Chris - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. All your subscribers who thought they were your new best friend will feel dejected, rejected and abandoned. The 12-22 is a fine performer, but so it should at two and a half times the price of the Ultra. The serious weight would be a big handicap to your operation. You don't need a log lift as with your new tractor you could easily organise a table like your brother and "fricknjeep" at minimal cost. All your need to upgrade your Ultra is to get Andrew to supply you with a custom made large push plate. I wonder if Irene feels rejected also!
Wow, I learned a person doesnt have to be wearing a HusQ cap to operate an Eastonmade. I also think I learned the auto-return feature would probably help Chris and his levers breaking off :)
Looks like a stihl started the cut got stuck, ‘varna tried to rescue it, but a Dolmar came in and saved both and cut the block off. Hi Chris!!😀😀 Tony has all the nice toys. I've got toys but not as nice as his. That big round was definitely a lot of work. That's why if I was gonna get a Easton made. I would get the Axis. That way you can just keep turning it and slicing it down to size. I see you kept the tractor he has out of the shot yet. Still keeping us in suspense. What town is he near? He seems like a great guy even though he comes from the state of fibs. LOL!! I have several that live near me. Take care my friend!!😀😀 Logger Al
Good field trip. Not sure he’s “like all of us” though. He’s pretty well set up there on that land. Good for him though. Sounds like he’s paid his dues and worked hard for all those toys. One day..........
I've tried a vertical splitter, seemed to be more work than hand splitting. You're stooped over and have to move the blocks around on the flat instead of round side. This was 16-19" doug fir blocks, pretty straight stuff. After one split it was easier to use the maul.
While I'm sure that is a great splitter especially for a certain range of log diameters, it also looks like a bit of a pain once you get into non linear grain pieces. I split with a basic 22 ton unit, same 4 x 24 cylinder and a single wedge. Can go horizontal or vertical for the large pieces that you can lift. I can easily split as fast as you were splitting and I have a log table on the far side for the large offcut pieces. With the splitter and table, the whole thing was less than $750 brand new. Have never seen a log it won't split, it will simply shear them if they can't be split. It is easy to split 1-2 cords an hour. I get it if you are into production big time, but for any person only splitting for their own use and maybe a few friends, I really don't see the value here. Granted, I only burn ~ 4 cords a year, but once I have the logs, I can cut and split for a full year easily in a day. The nice thing is that I can load the splitter up in my trailer and bring it to the wood and leave all of the mess there and just take home the finished splits. Great unit, but no way that works out unless you are well over 20 full cords a year. Also, and maybe I'm being picky here, but I would never split as small as you are splitting, those pieces are just way too small. Once I get burning, I have no desire to have to load up a bunch of smaller pieces. 5" x 5" on the end is just fine for me, burns great and I don't have to worry about drying as I am ~4 years ahead on wood anyway.
Yup, a box store splitter is all you need for a few cords. I did 600 every year and in the past I have had two cheap box store splitters that I wore out in about one year. As far as size of splits, I sell all my wood to fireplace people not heating people and they want small splits so they can see flames and so the lady of the house can handle the wood easily.
A little bit of chainsaw work on a big round! Would make a big beautiful bonfire log chimney type! Just my thoughts. Help pay for the splitter and upkeep on things.

I have used one of those, not a fan, it shreds the wood.
Nice video. I have the same splitter. I created a mobile wood splitting business. My son and I hussel around and the money is very good. Use a box wedge on the big rounds.
That is awesome! How do you charge?
In The Woodyard I charge $100/hr.
@@karljacobson7811 COOL!
Hi Chris!!😀😀
Tony has all the nice toys.
Take care my friend!!😀😀
Logger Al
He is not to far from you actually! No one else needs to know but we will be demonstrating an axis in the future ......
GOOD JOB CHRIS & TONY... MAYBE NEXT TIME YOU GUY'S CAN SPOTLIGHT THE TRACTOR??? STAY COOL CHRIS... PEACE...
Yes, Tony's tractor will be coming soon!
Good field trip. Not sure he’s “like all of us” though. He’s pretty well set up there on that land. Good for him though. Sounds like he’s paid his dues and worked hard for all those toys. One day..........
Yes, Tony has cool toys and you will get to see more!
The box wedge would be perfect for those big rounds
Yes, maybe next time!
I've tried a vertical splitter, seemed to be more work than hand splitting. You're stooped over and have to move the blocks around on the flat instead of round side. This was 16-19" doug fir blocks, pretty straight stuff. After one split it was easier to use the maul.
From what I have seen doug fir splits pretty easy.
Look at the struggle Chris and Tony had splitting up that big block. Tony went on to replace that splitter with a vertical one. I rest my case.
That would be cool! I thought that too!
it comes with a 6 way wedge, did you buy that wedge seperate.
This video was 3 years ago and the 12-22 was one of the first ones sold so that is what it came with then.
Still haven't figured out why he was making so much kindling!
He has a high efficiency stove, and does not need big huge pieces.
So Chris, are you going to continue twirling the Ultra or thinking about man handling that 12-22?
The ULTRA works fine for now someday I might upgrade.
Good morning from Piqua Ohio.
Morning!
Put a chainsaw through those big rings to make quarters as you mentioned ... saves time on the splitter ...or the box wedge.
Yes! It makes it much easier to handle!
That extra valve place can be overflow?
That is a good question, you would have to ask someone at Eastonmade.
I feel like if you two worked together everyday someone would end up hurt 😂 enjoyed the video though.
That was our first time with that machine and first time together, we are now a well oiled machine 2 years later. Thanks
What a machine like that cost?
You run the valve bank vary well .
I am not sure on current pricing but I think 12k??
