One of the greatest guitar sounds I ever heard live: Dan Toler with Greg Allman at the Greek Theater. Absolutely phenomenal.

One of THE MOST underrated guitarists there’s ever been . Guy was so melodic and always in the pocket , always played for the song , great player . Screw ALS .. such an evil disease especially for guitarists… rip man your music lives forever

So great to hear this interview… haven't heard this before, thanks so much for sharing this part of Dan's history (and love the reference to Ali Shuffle - one of my favorite tunes he did). RIP,,, another damn great wonderful musician gone way too soon.

Hey Tony, I was just 'Googling' some stuff trying to find out some things about the great Dan Toler and how he's doing, etc. and came across an article where you played a gig with Dan and how you got your inspiration to play music through your dad's group and hearing 'The Brothers' play. I just want to say thank you to you, and other younger folks who continue to become inspired to carry this great music on into the future and wish you the best of luck on your career. Long may you run...!

Awesome interview, what a calm, cool cat, dangerous Dan Toler is. Sounds like the perfect, professional band mate. Tons of class RIP

Dan played organ for the band I was in in Cincinatti in1969 . He lived with me at my parents home while we were playing 6 nights a week at a Cincy. Club called the Inner Circle. The band was Beau Dollar and the Coins . Beau played drums and sang ,I played lead guitar We Were a 7 piece soul band playing all the current soul stuff of the time.We did a session at King records for James Brown featuring Bobby Byrd called Hang Ups. James Brown was playing Organ ,and Singing harmony. Danny and I were both playing Guitar on that recording. This was About 2 years before he met Dickie Betts and the rest is history .I never saw Dan after1969 ,but was happy for his well deserved success. Check out Hang Ups by Bobby Byrd on You Tube to hear Dan playing the lead line while I was playing the chinking Chords on this funky song RIP DanToler

Dan Toler, as evidenced here, was a sweetheart of a human being. A gentleman. Duane Allman wanted Dickey Betts to play guitar with him. Dickey choose Dan Toler. He was that fine a player. Thanks for this friend!
