Super-Duper Easy Character Auto-Rig using Adobe's Mixamo & Blender

- Looking to take a character mesh you made or found online and pose or animate it? Well now you can. Adobe's Mixamo character rigging and animation suite is just the thing.
Using Blender we take an un-rigged character, plop it into Mixamo, and bring it back into Blender to pose and animate!
Super easy process that just works!

Helpful and fast thank you
Glad I could help!
Good introduction on Mixamo haven’t used it yet but hoping to rig some voxel characters👍
Thank you!

U saved me ❤❤❤ big thanks
Awesome, thanks for saying!
very helpful ty
My pleasure!
thanks for the video💯
This helped thanks
thanks m8
Should this work if i download the character as a USDZ
Thanks for the tut, do you know if the textures were created in Substance Painter if the method would be the same?
It wouldn't matter where the textures were authored.
please someone help, even when i press that box to keep the textures when i’m exporting, the textures down show up in mixamo, it’s just grey or black and white
Tooootally. Sometimes that happens. My workflow is pretty much identical each time, and sometimes the textures show up in Mixamo, sometimes they don't. I honestly don't know.
was reading that principled BDSF works best for this. I have diffuse BSDF on a lot of my nodes and it does not export with textures :(
Hi how can i export to video and how can I put the original with color
Hmm, if the materials didn't go into Mixamo, you may have to add the materials separately. Also, you'll export to video with another bit of software. That's a different set of tutorials my friend. Cheers!
when i follow the tutorial and upload the FBX file the mesh isn't uploaded, just the armature appears. any ideas how to fix this?
Hi! Do you mean after you upload the mesh to Mixamo? If you're uploading to Mixamo to add an armature, it doesn't bake in until you set the control points in Mixamo and save out the FBX again. Make sure you are taking the mesh with it on Mixamo export. If you mean you have a mesh and armature and you just want to get an animation or pose from Mixamo, after upload it doesn't have a mesh. I don't know. Try to import the FBX in a clean Blender file and see if you get the mesh. Make sure both the mesh and armature are selected when exporting (and the tick box 'only selection' in Blender is ticked). Hope this helps.
@@Glowbox3D I have same problem, material is not exporting
Hey sorry--read my other reply. That doesn't help? Good luck.@@nubosk
Is the mesh hi or low poly? When I try to bring it over to mixamo it does not see to work so well =(
You can use high or low poly meshes in rigging. Of course you don't want to upload a scanned characters. The topology has to be decent.
Make sure the character doesn't have any large clothing attachments, or long hair strands...swords...etc. Miximo wants to rig a body with normal clothing--if too many extra bits are on the character mesh, it doesn't know how to solve it.
when I upload my character it uploads like normal but after uploading its not there but it treats it as if it were there
any ideas on why?
Not fully sure what you mean-the normal map? If that’s the case I wouldn’t worry about it, just export out of Miximo with the skin and texture it after you bring it back into your 3d software.
@@Glowbox3D cool ill try
@@potatoscorpion6486 mine does this as well
AYO
Can you make it in cellphone without pc buddy?❤
I'm not sure. Make the auto-rig? You're doing 3d on your phone? Nice! lol
Is it possible to do this on mobile?
I'm not sure. I'd think not.
How did you pop it into T pose?
Ah, yes, I had already done it before the tutorial, and I actually mention that in the video. I show you that I selected the 'T Pose' pose in Mixamo. It was a little skipped step, but Mixamo has one, just choose that as the pose. Thanks for watching!
@@Glowbox3D Ah, ok thank you! I thought I needed to have it T-posed first in order to bring it into Mixamo.
For anyone coming here confused later, he actually goes through this a bit later in the video. So just go on with the tutorial as if nothing's weird.
the textures still aren’t in for me! :((
If you've packed your textures with your FBX, Mixamo should see it. But if it's not working, then I'm not sure. It happens to me to. Sometimes Mixamo doesn't pull the textures. Don't fret too much, it's not necessary to have textures on in Mixamo. Get a good anim, download the FBX and mesh from Mimxamo, and texture it in your 3d software of choice.
Is it possible to use .dae files?
Not for Mixamo. I'm assuming it's FBX and possibly OBJ.
why is the model so small
Not sure. Are you talking about the '10 centimeters' in the viewport info? I just downloaded the model from Sketchfab, ask the creator of the character mesh. :) The size is irrelevant for this tutorial, don't fret.
not work with me
Hmm. Ya, if the mesh isn't close enough to the pinning joints, it may not work. Also, make sure your mesh is has clean topology (no photoscanned meshes, etc). Finally, make sure your character is in either an A pose or a T pose.
