We have been testing this set up for over a month a month now🎣 This is our honest, and short review on this rod and reel combo! P.S: go get one, or both🤙🏻🎣
Okuma have excellent rods, I have the Makaira Blue 15 foot for non eds and the 6 to 8 oz 14ft6 Mariana and the 5 to 7 oz 15 foot Mariana. I am very impressed with the rods and won't swap them for any other rod. I really would like to try the Salina and Tesoro reels.
I got a Okuma Salina after seeing one of your earlier videos. Bought it along with me and used it for casting some stickbait/popper for kingfish. After 4 hours of casting/reeling, every time I reel in, hear a funny sound like it's not as smooth anymore. Not sure what's going on lol. Also the drag clicker is pretty quiet. I had heaps of times where a fish was biting and I did not hear it while wave was crashing in or too windy. If the clicker was louder/clickier and if i had not experienced whatever happened to my reel, then I'd highly rate the reel in its price class. Good thing about it is that it looks good, feels solid, light and has a smooth drag. Handle/reeling it feels heavy/smooth/solid.
Hey bud Look, it’s an amazing reel all around. The drag noise- completely agree with you, it’s not as pronounced as it should be at all! For us, if it was IPX rated, for even a little bit more, and fall between its current price point and that of a Gosa/slammer, it would be a 10/10 product. That noise… it’s weird, hasn’t happened to us, but maybe some sand/water has got in- have you tried pulling it apart to see?
@@untraceablefishing It's a great reel. I got it for an unbelievable price as well. And have caught heaps of fish on it but the drag clicker for me is a no no. I fish heaps on windy piers and rock walls and often it's not as pronounced vs other reels in the similar price range. Often I would put a bell on the Salina setup. I don't do this for my other setups. And agreed on the IPX rated part as well. The noise is weird. Now that I think of it. I can't hear it when reeling in with no line/pressure. Only when pressure happens (like pulling in a stickbait or bait/sinker/rig), then I only hear it. I'm thinking could be the line roller bearing or something stuck in there. I'll try take it apart soon to see what the problem is but I am busy work/fishing almost all the time haha. I purchased it 3-4 months ago and that noise has been there since day 1 (after 4 hours usage). I fish almost 5 days a week.
@@plasmoske you really do put in the hours… It’s a real pity about the drag clicker- for us having the Saragosa (which is a mad noise🤣), it’s disappointing… but wouldn’t put us off the reel- we LOVE ours. I’m pretty sure when you pull it apart, it will be something small and an easy fix. Let us know once you’ve sorted this🤙🏻 and what the problem is!
@@untraceablefishing haha well do. I will also try to modify the clicker if possible. I've done this before in the past for other quieter reels and made it become louder. I'll see if this is possible once I open it up. Now I'm kind of keen to do it tomorrow haha
Hi. Great video. Thanks for sharing. How would you rate the torque on the reel when retrieving a 7oz and big bait against current? Is it similar or better than a Saragosa swa 10k in retrieve?
It is similar to the Gosa on retrieve- it’s a really well rounded reel! It would be almost perfect if it had a better sounding ratchet, and a proper IPX rating🤙🏻
I actually fish a 7oz rod with mostly a 7oz sinker and medium size bait. I had it paired with a Stella 14000xg. It was an excellent combination. The reel had plenty of torque although it was a high speed reel. Sadly I had to part with the reel. I tried the 14k Gosa swa and it didn't have the torque when making multiple casts. The 10k Gosa swa had the torque but too slow. Im actually interested in the Tesoro 14k h if it has enough torque, if not I'd settle for the 14k p Tesoro.
Found your setup. Would it work a silina 10 000 or smaller reel . Viewing from uk. Love the South african rods . We do not have the size of fish here .
I've always liked Okuma. They have produced some good stuff. However , over here in Taiwan , where they produce the gear, the locals don't seem to favor Okuma at all. They prefer the JDM stuff that gets imported.
@@untraceablefishing They definitely do produce the goods! I bought a Salina 14000,a good solid workhorse that I will use for offshore. The blue Azores (older model not XP) is also very popular here for offshore. There are a few other reels produced here that are for only Asia retail it seems. With regards to the rods, I think SA imports blanks made to SA specs. I haven't really seen any Okuma Surf rods on the market here. Hearty Rise seems to be popular for lure fishing both inshore and offshore as a domestic product
@@zamaleka1226 hearty rise are amazing- I love their rods (despite not owning one). The Salina is one of the best reels in its class by a long way… we love ours! It’s really awesome that you’re tuning in from all that way- we appreciate the comments and support🎣🤙🏻
If you can afford the Tesoro- then any day go for it! If not for anything, besides the waterproofness of it! But it’s a next level reel! If the budget won’t allow more than R3k, I would put Salina ahead of any other reel in its class
I've enjoyed watching your videos Fishos
Keep up the great work.
Thanks FISHO🤙🏻🎣 glad you’re enjoying them!
Great video...I have bought that Rod can't wait to test it this weekend....tight lines 🦈 🎣
You won’t be sorry, FISHO🤙🏻🎣
What reel are you pairing it with?
I am definitely getting the selina 8k for my 14'6 Bluefish special. Good info, thanks Dean.

Hello ive got the prescition 14 foot i feel it is a bit thick and barder to cast and a bit stiff although for non eds it is good
It is a very thick and heavy rod. We agree with you!
The Euphoria we feel may be better for “all day” fishing🤙🏻
Yes hope so still incredible for the price point the makaira for me is much more worth it tho for a non eds rod was very surprised how well it threw
@@fuaad.c also a great rod- Okuma are making an impact at the moment🤙🏻
