Cheers from the U.S.! I just got into these cars and nobody I've seen is doing more with these, or offerering better info on them than you. I'm also an RC noob, so you're saving me a ton of time and frustration. Bravo, good sir! 👏 Thank you x 10!
You could at least wait for me to get to 100mph before moving the goal posts hahahaha. Look forward to the first run! I have a feeling you'll need your Private Pilot License first!
Not much chance of us getting up to that speed until we get some better weather in the UK, but it will happen as both of our cars are very similar in spec bring it on
No problem 👍 did brief test on 2S, but rain stopped play, it's rained for 5 days non-stop, it was supposed to clear today but still raining out there. Wish I had your weather! I've ordered a new chassis and driveshaft to convert my 144001 to one of these as it's so much easier to work on with the extra room. Anybody make any 'funky' car bodies for the 124019 as yet? Not a speed run one just a nice looking shell
This is cool! I'm building an A979 chassis stretched using the 144001 driveshaft. The a979 is narrow enough to fit old pan car 1/12scale car body's and is so light weight should do well over 100 mph on 3s lipo. I don't expect the diffs to last forever and I have to shim the bearings etc. Build tolerances on the A979 are a bit loose but I can make it work.
I can't wait! I just fitted 2 motors in my 124019, I don't think the kv I'm running will top 100mph, but I wanted to see how it does since no one I can find has put 2 in a 1/12 car, I can fit them in the 144001 also, but need side trays for both. I laid my escs on thier side, and it worked out well.
One benefit of 2 motors is that you can gear up. Try larger pinion gears and/or smaller spur gears. The rpms of the motor dont matter all that much if you have twice the power behind them and proper gearing. High rpms don't matter if you don't have the power under load to actually reach anywhere near maximum rpms. That's why higher kv often doesn't actually mean a faster car. Having two motors actually allows you to overgear even higher. Theres a reason that none of the fastest speed runs have been done with high kv motors. They are generally done with high voltage and low kv motors. 2 motors for speed runs is actually not unheard of either.
Glad I'm not the only one that has to take stuff apart multiple times during a build, that mini q tested my sanity. Still have a zip tied jumbled mess of esc clutter I just have to mash that bonnet down and pray the magnet latches. Lol
A motor swap amd suspension adjustments really doesn't need to be a two part video. Feels like your dragging it out on purpose instead of not having time because it's such a major undertaking. If it was gonna be two parts there should've been way more bench time in this first video. The way this video is rushed through their should've been a few mina of road testing even if you didn't go for the record in it. Love your content and don't mean to insult you in anyway just wanted to give honest feedback.
Looking forward to seeing how she runs as my car is the same spec motor although I have a new spectrum firma esc going in just need some goog weather in the UK and a lot of tarmac lol
Another great build Ritchie. Have you considered 3d printing side skirts and rear diffuser to use ground effect that was so successful formula 1 banned them cause it worked too well?
Hey Richie learning so much from your vids! I'm about to start my build. I noticed you servo zip ties locking mechanism is underneath the car. Worried at high speed if hit by a rock they can snap off. Thanks so much and keep the awesome videos coming.
Well Richie i finally got a brushless set up but ita not working right. The whole system is glitchy and cannot seem to make it work right. I need help. Look on my channel what i installed.
Let me double check as under COVID I’ve bought a lot on eBay and Amazon as well as Banggood. Also if you’re in the USA then LC racing have a store over here and as the wltoys cars tend to be lower cost copies a lot of the parts fit and arrive very fast. I bought about a car loads worth of spares inc a set of pins and screws(devil to get anywhere else!)
@@DriftomaniacsRC I looked at the LC racing hexes, they use a grub screw to to attach to the axle. The WLTOYS looks like a plain aluminum hex with a certain diameter pin. The hex I bought has a different size pin than stock WLTOYS.
Richie, I have a question for you. So when I place the MOD 1 gearing using the Traxxas 6492 29T pinion the center spine is not wide enough for the gear??? Can I or should I place the center spine back on? Is it critical for a speed run? I don't really want to grind away at the gear for proper placement?
I'd probably try 2s before going 3s. Then 2-2s in parallel. But your crazy for doing amazing build. Keep it up rich. Your great at what you do. Hope it don't rip apart on take off
The discharge of the battery can only be so fast. We know it as the c rating. To get more amps to the motor you need higher c rating. The easiest way is to run batteries in parralel. I've ran my wltoys 12429 at 6900kv motor with 3s at 42mph but with 2-2s in parralel it gets 48mph. Sorry it took so long to respond
Droop screws are for limiting suspension travel and not really meant to lower a car. You should always lower the RC using the adjustable spring perches.
But on this car that would effect the spring rate which is not what I need though I appreciate the tip though. Bear in mind this car is set up for speed runs not normal use.
If you went to finer pitch, it will only help speed. Finer gears are more precise, so less noise, and thst means less wasted energy. Back in the day, the 1/10 racers even used 64p gears to have better gearing adjustment, and better efficiency and performance. This had to be used on the cleanest surfaces, however
I'd spotted that as well and was pretty nervous so I test ran it on 3S on the bench (timing on low) with some hard full throttle blips and it didn't get warm so yesterday I tested on 2S at my test spot to see and it ran cool. I am thinking that it'll be okay as it's barely pushing any load/weight. It began to rain so I had to quit but will try again today
@@DriftomaniacsRC Thanks for the answer I look forward to the 3S test and know the speed ;-) For the moment it is mounted with a BL Motor 5200 kv I have a Castle 7700 kv but the cables do not fit in the ESC
Sorry a bit off topic not sure, but maybe someone can help. My 144001 front wheels dont turn, no power at all rears do though. Could it be the differential?
No worries, It might be the front diff OR if neither is turning it could be the gear (at the front) on the center driveshaft that's the issue (Held on by tiny screw but can come loose)
@@DriftomaniacsRC ok cool yeah maybe the center gear shaft has an issue I noticed its but turning but the rear wheels do. Haven't torn it down yet. Thank you for your feedback.
I suspect you'd probably be far better off running 6s on lower kv. - Firstly and most importantly you could use a 6s ~1300 battery for a racing quad (firmly believe this is where the highest performance lipos are). 4s ~1500 is a close second. RaceDayQuads OEM packs are good value and excellent performance. Tattu R-line and GNB are also good options but I don't know who stocks them on that side of the pond. If you want power in a small package you need racing quad packs, difficult to explain the gulf in performance vs what you are using. 10000000% you need a couple of these to test. - Secondly although in theory lower kv doesn't equal more torque that will not be true if the rest of your system is under high stress. Your motor might be able to take 100s of amps but the wires and connectors you use will experience significantly lower performance if they are pushed far beyond their current specification. More so as heat increases. - thirdly 6s wltoys is way better clickbait
Lol I'm guessing the 6 thumbs down is the people whose top speed you r beating😎 😁🤘 I'd love to get one of these but customs always send my packages Bak and Banggood just say to retry over and over and it takes over a month to get rejected so I gave up trying. And been trying to find a second hand build somewhere that I can get part in the usa for it. It's my only option i guess.
