When people talk about Layne it's always so deep and personal. I wish he knew the effect he had on people and how unique and meaningful his music was to anyone who ever heard it. There is no happy medium with Layne. You either worshiped him as the God he was, or you weren't listening. It becomes a part of you and the thought of being denied his voice would be more terrible than being denied air !! This is what perfection looks and sounds like. A once in a lifetime gift !!
Melissa Panek could not agree more. Layne has been such a huge influence on my life. His words his voice his lyrics everything about him is so genuine and hes so comforting to hear especiallyy during dark and depressing times, his pain and everything is so relatable. Honestly i might not be around if it wasnt for Layne and AIC, their music has helped me through some very dark times. Thank you Melissa for all the live videos you posted on here, I absolutely love each version of each song, hearing the different tones of voice at each concert every one of them is a little different from the others. God I miss Layne so much, I didnt know him personally, but I kinda felt like I did through his music and words. There will never be anyone quite like Layne ever he was and is truly a gem. I wish things couldve gotten better for him and they could have cracked out a few more albums, his talent was mind blowing. Im so glad I followed my friends advice to check out AIC when Facelift first came out Instantly they became my favorite band and always will be. I like some of the stuff Alice continues to do with William Duvall but its just not quite the same for me. Thank you for all the videos again I absolutely love each and every one of them.
@@PT84 not to nit pick but Layne and Jerry wrote Dirt’s lyrics. If you mean facelift Layne wrote the lyrics to multiple songs. As far as the music I think Jerry wrote every song but two of them. One of them was Angry Chair.
The lyrics in this song are particularly disturbing (and good): "I want to taste dirty, a stinging pistol in my mouth on my tongue, I want you to scrape me from the walls and go crazy like you've made me"
Oh how I miss the 90s. Hanging out in the vineyards, drinking wine, smoking pot, listening to AiC, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, STP etc. Making own music. I would spent everything for one day back in that time. For one day of my youth...
I think Layne is the best but people give credit to Jerry ! He was Fcking genius he wrote almost every song for AIC , not just lyrics music too . Aic wouldnt be so great if they didnt have that tone that Jerry produced :D
Ho Hosko, Layne actually wrote MORE THAN HALF the lyrics to AIC songs. Jerry wrote most of the music. Layne wrote the music not just for Angry Chair but 3-4 other songs as well.
I agree Nikola. Layne possessed a voice of magic that blew everyone away, and baffled all the pros... and to this day there is no one whos had the HUGE vocal range Layne Staley had that would pour out of him completely effortlessly.... To make those melodys come out of himself that way, is mysterious, haunting and magical. However....the combined harmonies created between Layne and Jerry, along with talent and strengths each brought to the band is what made Alice In Chains PHENOMENAL. In my opinion the Layne/ Jery bromance brought a gift to the world that will still be here long after they are gone and that is a precious gift we can all enjoy from now to eternity.
If you have not watched Jerry’s interview on the Gibson icons, please do so. You are correct-Jerry’s is just as special as Layne(not taking anything away from that genius). Just love Jerry and his music and his unique up bringing and background that made him who he was as an artist and made Layne take off like a rocket. It’s all beautiful.
@@MrGagehailey-late to the party but wow, that’s what I feel. Kudos on finding the words that escaped me. Beautiful sentiments that describe what it was/what it is
i love music i listen to tons of music for hours every day from black sabbath, led zeppelin to nowdays music nd i have to say nobody ever touch me with hes voice nd lyrics like layne did this man is so underrated
As I sat encouraging an artist I've loved and admired forever my heart bled. I wish you were still here Layne, wish you had beaten your demons, so I could talk with my friends about your new music. Now a phenomenal voice is silent and a person who we all could have learned from is gone, before the lesson was completely taught.
I copied the link immediately to send to my friends so they could understand why I'm so in love with Layne Staley, but i was so enthralled that I just wanted to wait until the video was over
Omg he kills it live he is and was the best and Jerry with that guitar wow wtf they were fucking awesome I'm still so fascinated by this band to this day rock on Alice in chains ⛓️🤘
I'll be honest. I love marijuana. It's my drug of choice. But I'd never in hell use heroin. It's too devastating. Too much potentional for death or savage addiction. Ugh.
Was this after one of Layne's stints in rehab? He looks healthy and has more weight on him than usual. Wish to God he could have stayed clean. He is missed. :(
Jerry rules. Very good guitarist, Layne was awesome. Don't be an ass though. If you like AIC then you like Jerry too. If not then you are not a fan but a hater.
I feel like this is Layne’s “Kashmir” in this performance. Totally different themes but I think someone will know what I mean… It’s so good but the reasons why it’s so good hurt
To those who said they enjoy drug use...... you love Layne? Ever loved anyone you knew personally who died from drugs? You insult the memory of all who died by drugs when you say you love drugs!
Layne was awesome, but he wasn't Alice In Chains alone. Why only Layne appears on the video? Why the coments of all AIC's videos is about Layne? He died, it is terrible and I wish he was alive, but he isn't. Even in the solo Layne has more space than Jerry, I wish someone understand me.
You're just missing the point dude, this isnt professional recording this is another fan getting Layne in his prime on camera an there isn't much of it out there, on another note, look who isn't with us, anymore. You wanna see a lot of Jerry? Go see Alice in chains touring this year. The real Alice is gone
"Late reply".....you have no idea what you're writing about but you're just out of your mind (at least when you wrote it)...hope you're better now. Take care of yourself, Bruce.

This is so true. Laynes voice and AICs music really speaks to me and it’s truly unique and one of kind you just don’t hear any similar styles to this.
@@matthewherron750 such a fantastic comment, like you too the words out of my mouth

Nobody got shit on Layne, the best vocalist of the '90s IMO. Layne Staley forever
He's probably the best rock singer of all time.
God tier singers imo: Layne, Maynard, Freddie
@colbey79 Sebastian Bach aswell, an absolute powerhouse who doesn't get the recognition he deserves
Listening to this song still sends shivers down my spine. Laynes voice was amazing. No one could ever come close to matching it
I know!!! Simply one of a kind! No other way to put it! We've only got a few like that! I feel lucky to have been here for some of them!
Ever heard of Travis Meeks?
Agreed.
That damned voice...pure brilliance. I miss this man more than I miss a shitload of people I personally knew.
So true
