    You should vacuum before you chill to avoid condensation inside the closed loop

      Pull a deep enough and long enough vacuum... any water or condensation will sublimate... and there won’t be any moisture.

      @@jacklegminercanada3866 I’m a HVACR technician. So funny thing about vacuum is... is under vacuum, the freezing point of anything raises. (Kinda like the radiator in your car being under pressure, which raises the boiling point).
      Do you have a vacuum pump? Put a shot of water in a glass and put it under vacuum. You can freeze it at room temperature.
      In HVAC there is a concern in the community if you pull a vacuum on a refrigeration system TOO fast you will freeze any moisture in the system. Well in a small blasting tube, you IMMEDIATELY pull that small space into a DEEP vacuum.... and any light moisture is going to freeze. Pulling a vacuum before or after probably will produce near identical results either way,
      So though “pulling a vacuum before freezing” is logical, the fact is you probably froze any moisture in the tube when you put a deep vacuum on it (in seconds) anyways.
      And yes... you hold a deep vacuum long enough, the ice will sublimate. It’s physics.

  • @ViralTuber
    @ViralTuber 9 років тому +32

    pull the vac, seal it, THEN chill down the vessel to achieve true maximum-possible vacuum. Trust me (test it and see!), the resulting vacuum effect will go beyond the maximum pull of the vacuum pump by itself. Whereas vacuuming the vessel once it's already chilled (as shown in the video) will result in a vacuum only as deep as the pump can deliver by itself.

    • @JeffreyPhillipsFreeman
      @JeffreyPhillipsFreeman 8 років тому +14

      I'm a chemist, so I want to explain things a bit here. While you would be correct that heating the vessel while pumping the vacuum and then chilling after would produce a harder vacuum it is actually pointless in this scenario because the vacuum itself goes away the second you add the butane. It is not the actual vacuum that is important, the only important part is that only butane gas is in the chamber and no air, which itself exists at high pressure not low pressure.
      The reason for this is that air, when in contact with the cold surface of the receiving vessel (the one in the dry ice) wouldn't do anything special other than become cold air. Butane gas however as it gets cold will condense into liquid pulling in more butane gas from the source vessel in the process. Therefore if you have too much air mixed in with butane this process slows down and it takes longer to move from one vessel to the next. But once the process starts there is no vacuum it is all at high pressure. So there is no actual benefit from producing a hard vacuum in the first step.

      When it's chilling with no vacuum the atmosphere will create ice and the ice will not vacuum out common sense

    My problem with the larger one, the 135g mini extractor, it says in the description that it only can use one can of butane max, that's not enough to extract it all, it will take more than a can to get through all that material. I assume it will take like 3-4 cans.

    Hey Dirty, would you know why I'm only getting back a little return and the material is still dry? I have the mini. Thanks.

      Jeff Jr could be a number of thing but the most important is the material you put in, then also if you using dry ice or not (and yes it does make a difference). also if your able get a small ball valve for your mini so your butane has a chance to really take effect for a few minutes. also make sure you top off the the tank after every use it needs to be full before every run to make a good extraction. hope this helps but please remember the minis wont produce the way the bigger units do because of the amount of material your using. also try to remember if you put bad material in it and except it to produce a great end product thats not gonna happen, but you put in fire you will get fire back. the ball valve should help it soak some more and try the other tips. hope all this helps and would love to hear if they help

    I built my own 8 years ago. The systems are easy to put together. If you can tighten weld and some math skills. 3rd of the price even with better ball value than the fucking shitty ones he is using
