When people have long arms open hand palm strikes are good because if your up close more you can generate more power if you don’t have the range to wind up a punch
"I can choose fear or joy", I needed to hear that. I choose fear every morning when I wake up and didn't realize it. I'm so thankful to you and your family. I'm always learning something new
I realised this dealing with massive anxiety while doing public speaking.. idea behind moments of stress is the body doesn’t differentiate between anxiety or excitement.. your body responds physically the same, so if you choose joy, your brain will convince yourself that what you’re experiencing at that time is actually excitement.
This is such a great story. In my opinion, Oliver did everything right, and it came down to a matter of technicality. But I love his message at the end. Something we all need to practice.
Love seeing this update about Oliver’s career. This is the side of mixed martial arts that the public doesn’t see. In my opinion, after watching a lot of other MMA experience videos on UA-cam, it seems clear to say that the hardest part about a fight is everything leading up to the fight. When the actual fight starts, it’s all about letting the training kick in and just trying to come out on top. Oliver, heal up, get to training once you can and make it your mantra that the next fight will go to you. UFC and Bellator can be ruthless when it comes to a fighter’s win loss record.
He's a true stoic. The only thing you can really control is how you react to challenges. I am definitely going to show this to my kids. Thank you, Jesse and Oliver
Your last words are spot on. I pound this into my kids' heads constantly: "you can't control what happens to you, but you control how you react to it." Love it
I've torn my cartilage in between my ribcage and it set me back way over a month also easily the most painful injury I've ever done and I've broken my back once. The fact that Oliver went through all of this and still rocked up ready to roll is incredibly inspirational. What a living legend. Can't wait to see his next fight!
Oliver's message at the end couldn't come at a more perfect time. Lately I have been heavy emotionally and started feeling the stress of life after losing my father. ''It's not the stress that holds you down, but how you carry it"! ''You can't control what happens to you, but you can control on how you react"! I will take these words into consideration. Also Oliver will be back stronger than ever!
Wow, that is really unfortunate. Imagine if Oliver was perfectly healthy for that fight, he probably would have stopped that guy early. Bad decision. I watched the entire fight and Oliver clearly was the more aggressive, technical fighter going for submissions, etc. His opponent was a typical one dimensional wrestler, boring, holding and only looking for a win. The thing about Oliver is that he is so humble and respectful. His martial arts skills are world class, but he never comes off as arrogant or disrespectful. His fight knowledge is really high level in just how he methodically breaks down fights. Gordon Ryan is the same way with jujitsu. Hopefully he will heal up and come back stronger. Really admire him. Respect.
The brothers Enkamp are both extremely cool. Wishing you guys good luck. Oliver I’m so impressed with the way you handled that difficult situation. Mental strength! I hope you heal quickly. You’re the best!
Damn, Oliver has been really unlucky during the training this time, I know how it feels to get injured while getting close to a competition (not that important but still), and it sucks a lot (even more on the Psychological sense, as Oliver said) but getting injured multiple times, well, that's terrible 😕
@@zerte4197 I hope so! I practiced and practice many martial arts while doing HEMA in the meantime: Traditional Ju Jutsu, Jo Do, Boxing and now Muay Thai.
@@FedericoMalagutti oh, I didnt know that, thats actually cool, I did HEMA for a bit, but since its too far to conviniently get there for me I started kickboxing recently

Thank you Oliver and Jesse for making this video. You both have a champions spirit. Great advice and thank you for taking us along on your journey. Respect
Love that you guys break every thing down. I love the humble nature of everything. You take no offense to anything and just work to get better. Awesome work guys
Watched your fight live. You and Kyoji are my favorite fighters. Both because of your karate backgrounds and decent character. Wishing you more fights and victories, so you can continue to enjoy your MMA career and expand your platform to promote decent values.
I feel that you can tell much more about a person’s character through how they handle a loss than through how they handle a win. Oliver’s attitude and determination are exceptional, and throughout this video, there were no excuses. Also I loved Jesse’s question: “What lesson did this experience teach you that you needed to learn?” Writing that in my journal.
Jesse you and Oliver have been my martial Arts inspirations for a while now and the hardships you share for the journey makes you guys very relatable. Currently going through a foot injury and it sucks. So i Thank you both for this video to keep me going and i wish Oliver the best in his career
Lots of respect for Oliver! It seems he did his best under the circumstances, and given his injuries. I hope he will heal and recover as fast as possible. Anyway, wrestlers are formidable opponents... Kudos and good luck!
Thanks so much for this video. Oliver you are such a champ. You came out there to give us a good performance, but he just wouldn’t let you do it. I think your legs and long reach scare most sane people away! 😂 Regardless, it is always refreshing to hear your take on the fight and what went right and wrong. One thing that never goes wrong is your attitude. You are such an inspiration to so many people just by the way you carry yourself. So thank you for the positivity. It was such an honor to have you teach at the KNX 19 that I attended. Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing your next fight!!
I look forward to seeing Oliver move forward. & yes he’s right about not having the negative moments weigh you down. Or as Funakoshi would say: 一、心は放たん事を要す/Hitotsu, kokoro wa hanatan koto o yōsu/The heart must be set free. Had to it’s been awhile since I last heard Jesse quote a famous Sensei.
Great performance by Oliver -- it's always hard going up against grapplers because of the way MMA rules are giving points to takedowns and not stand-ups. They should adjust the points to nullify a takedown if the other fighter gets back on their feet, especially if that fighter is a standup specialist. Plus with the injuries Oliver was working against put him at a disadvantage, so losing on points is nothing to feel bad about. On to the next one! OSU!
Actually if you read the rules you don't get points for takedowns in and of themselves. The main scoring criteria in MMA is damage. You shouldn't get points for getting back up, the value in getting back up is in the actions itself - it's up to you to exploit it!
I love Oliver’s thirst for knowledge and his drive to try different things whether they work or not. It probably helps that he has you in his corner always.
That's the spirit! Great job Oliver and Jesse (I presume this is on both of you). I'm gonna use this story to show my kids how it is done. Thanks guys for being what you are!

Inspiring story thanks for posting. The lesson I take away is that we often daydream or fantasize about a time where we will need to respond and be our own hero and we imagine it to be an epic fight where we bring our best and our opponent brings their best. But the reality is like you experienced that we may have some handicap, injury or misfortune that doesn't allow us to be at our best yet our time for action comes and it is in those times where our characters and spirit are built the most. Great job, great fight, keep fighting!!
