  • This video shows the repair of an E07 HDD Timeout error on an original XBOX console which was caused by motherboard corrosion of the LPC header and IDE bus address lines. At some point previously these address lines had been caught by a mod installation and over time the corrosion meant we lost contact with our HDD resulting in a FRAG (flashing red and green light) and an E07 'Contact XBOX Support' screen.
Here we use some basic micro-soldering techniques to repair these address lines and get this retro console back up and running once more!

Hi, just found your video due to similar situation by fixing a trace. i was wondering what gauge wire you used and what is that green stuff you applied after. i fixed my xbox by using one strand of wire from a spare 24 awg wire, it wasn't copper though. i had a mod chip and removed it to trouble shoot the issue. with the modchip, the xbox frag. without it, everything works fine. Do you think i still have a bad trace somewhere? i can't find any other bad trace with my microscope. i really enjoyed watching your video, was very detail. thank you

      Hi Jeff,
Check your D0 point bud and the condition of the trace which leads from it. Had one similar a while back - I was doing some maintenance on one of my boxes and must have slightly caught it - still looked like it was in place but would only FRAG. Re-soldered the point and it came back up. If the machine detects something on the debug header and the D0 point isn't grounded then the machine will FRAG so check that point and trace and hopefully you'll find your issue :)

I got a good chuckle out of the obligatory "ah, shit" @27:40. I've been there a few times, well, everytime, lol.

All of the black capacitors on my console is leaking. Is there another alternative to using a capacitor that will eventually leak?

As they're through hole parts the easiest thing to do would be to replace them with some decent quality electrolytic caps - Panasonic or Nichicon are the best quality caps you can buy.
