    At time mark 26:20 & a bit beyond you'll see this area used in the closing scene of Clint Eastwood's movie "Gran Torino". I used to live in St Clair Shores & many times we would cruise Lake Shore Drive to see the lake & looking for Great Lake Freighters.

      Thanks for the information! I remember noticing that at the end of the movie. This is a drive I do quite often even off camera too.

    I miss that street. And I like the lake in Grosse Pointe Shores. The houses are so beautiful in this street. Wish I could go to this street again when I visit Michigan soon!

      It is one of my favorite drives in all of Metro Detroit! I enjoy looking at the beautiful homes across the street from Lake St. Clair as well as looking out at the lake. Thanks for watching!

      @@scottman895 I wish I could go to the lake when I visit Michigan. If the lake is frozen during the winter, I can go ice-skating there as long as the lake is frozen.

    Well, feather my butt and call me a turkey - this dude was right: Van Dyke _does_ go all the way up to the tip of the thumb. Well, 99.9% right: Van Dyke starts at Jefferson, goes all the way through Troy, Imlay City, Marlette, and even Bad Axe. One hundred and sixteen miles... But, then when it gets to Port Austin, the last 2,500 feet before you drive into Lake Huron it turns into "Lake Street". Soooooo, technically speaking....

    • @scottman895
      @scottman895  2 роки тому

      That's true - Van Dyke is Lake Street in Port Austin. What's also interesting is that Van Dyke becomes Main Street in the village of Romeo before it turns back into Van Dyke once again.

    I know someone who recently moved to Michigan. She took a job at the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House. She says she loves it so far. But to ask again January. 😆 I told her to look up your channel.

      That's great to hear, and thank you very much! It'll be a lot different in January as even I am getting less tolerable of the cold than I used to be. Thanks for watching!

    Looks as if there are no farms in Gross Point Farms.

      Probably not. There may have been a long time ago, but if there were, that would have been well before I was born.

    The drive would have been more informative if you included some highlights of what was years ago i.e. The words largest stove, more about Belle Isle. Indian Village, etc. Less about the terrible traffic and so on. Also, someone needs to be a bit more accurate with the spelling of a number of works shown on the closed captions. I lived in the area most of my life so know what was but probably most of the people watching wouldn't. Just some helpful hints.

    • @scottman895

      You make a great point about me complaining too much about the traffic. I am considering refilming the video when the traffic is lighter in the day so that I would be able to talk more about the area. My grandmother who was born in the area (Indian Village) sadly passed away back in 2018, and she would have been a great person to have co-commentate with me as she knew so much about the area along Jefferson. As for the closed captioning, that is auto-generated by UA-cam which unfortunately is not that reliable as you can see. Thanks for the comment!

    That is what Jefferson looks like during rush hour, although not sure how it compares now with being only 2 lanes compared to 3 a few years back.

      @scottman895  5 років тому

      Great to know! The traffic was quite awful that day, lol! I remember when it used to be 3 lanes. I'm sure it makes the traffic back up even more, but at least there is a bike lane now. Thanks for watching!

      Thank you very much! The drive got more enjoyable after leaving the traffic jam and I started to see the lake on the right. I have not shown John R yet (unless I happened to drive on it in my Troy driving tour video) or any of the Hazel Park area. That could be an area which I cover in an upcoming driving tour however. Thanks for watching!
