I bought this album in 1976 and was blown away with it. Some years later, I met the only other person I met in my life who had this album. We discussed it and he told me, whilst it is a true masterpiece, it is best appreciated while stoned. I never did follow him up on that, but always remember the discussion when I dust the album off for a listen.

I was about 6 years old when I'd heard this song for the first time. I was literally crying while listening to it. Now I'm 29 and i still haven't heard anything more beautiful than Visionary mountains
The solos 2:30 - 3:56 by Mann and Rogers are so epic... here they take a small song fragment by Joan Armatrading and Pam Nestor, and lift it up into the uppermost spheres of progressive rock
Great 'deep cut' by the Earth Band! That opening guitar/organ bit gave me the good shivers the first time I heard it. I knew I was in for something good for the next 5 1/2 minutes there.
The band has a specialty: Manfreds handling of the synthesizer simulates electric guitar. Som times hard to discriminate. But what is important: Wonderful playing. Much better than most shit played on the radio today.
I totally agree. When I saw them, I was blown away. They were not only good musicians, they were good entertainers. One of the best shown I ever saw. I just wish I could remember more of it.

I keep forgetting that by weird coincidence, my two favourite bands, Manfred Mann's Earth Band and Genesis, both switched singers in 1975/1976- Mick Rogers to Chris Thompson for MMEB and Peter Gabriel to Phil Collins for Genesis.

David Knowles Solar fire is a good one also.👍
I picked it up some years later than '76. It'll always be on my phone, though. It's a gem.
@@zoso1980 Visionary Mountains also caused me to go and listen to Joan Armatrading, which I never regretted.
Yeah right? It was a so of Hymne of first love - visionary mountains...

a masterpiece!
can't agree more! a true masterpiece!
First time I hear this song. Captivating from the first note ON.

I was so blown away the first time I heard this song
With father of day and night , this is my favorite song of Manfred ...memories of the old days come back..

June 1976...it was absolutely new for me - and strait to my heart...
Man Fred Mann was big when I was a teen. Another awesome band.
First time hearing this my mind almost exploded.
Such beauty.

Right you are....and i guess a lot af people have been thinking that the two solo`s you mentioned are both performed on guitar !
IT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER BY JOAN IS KILLER.
WOW...Today I finally found this song after years. Thank you UA-cam. What a classic song of all times, the lyrics, the guitar, the vocals. ❤❤👌🤘
This will be played at my funeral
Timeless music

I bought this album in 1975 after a sales clerk suggested I do so ..... Fantastic . Thx to Bullwinkles Records .
you did the right thing, pal! things like this never disappoint!
EPIC MASTERPIECE & TIMELESS

Manfred has the best run-outs.
I was given this album in 1982 but with around 1000 other vinyls it was stolen from me.....the best album ive ever had the pleasure of owning
Too good. This song & album make me feel excellent
Fantastic Composition ♦️
Did you come across this on Harribest Reactions ?

amazing song!
One more Masterpiece from Manfred ❤

Readily agree with observations made. But that last might not be hard to accomplish, LOL

Its kinda hard to find these good but no mainstream songs and its kind of haunting to know how few people know this song.
How this track has gone unnoticed I will never know it’s up there with the best of them from the 70s
Cheers Absolutely Mantastic

right on. 2 huge bands. I like this album, top 20 personally.
That´s why MMEB is one of my favourite.
супер
All credit due to Joan Armatrading, one hell of a songwriting pioneer. She wrote this gorgeously brilliant song and made this cover version possible.
