I knew kid back in the day who had one of these. It was like the thing was made out of pure, concentrated disappointment.

Yep. Even the worst of today's tech and games looks amazing when you hold it up against the worst stuff circa 1990 (or whenever.)
I like how the protective plastic over the red mirror seemingly degraded over the years and left some residue behind. The R-Zone was literally disintegrating within its own packaging.
God I miss this kind of reviews. Mark, if you uploaded this kind of content again, I would watch it. It would be so refreshing.

I feel as if, if anyone cared, you could make the screen a million times more visible by replacing the viewer with an actual piece of mirror instead of a shiny red sticker.
If anyone cared enough about the R-Zone to mod one.
IF anyone cared they would rip all of it;s guts out and replace the LCD film with a transparent modern one.

I remember seeing this in the Index catalog in the 90's as a kid and wanting one - I never got one. I now realize that was for the best.
Yeah I wasn’t allowed to have a gameboy because my folks thought it would be too addicting, so they gave me this instead. They were right. The R-Zone isn’t addictive at all.
I heard they actually made an R -Zone version of Panzer Dragoon!

For sticky stuff use tape or duck tape, and keep sticking it over where the adhesive your trying to remove. It can take a bit, but usually works out pretty well.
This system only failed because it was difficult to program for. Developers sadly never harnessed the true power of the r-zone.
That is, if it HAD any power to harness to begin with.

Loved all your channel's content as well as under toe, its a sad reality knowing that your leaving the UA-cam platform for good, but being a big fan and knowing it's in your best interest I can't argue as I know its been going to the shits in the last couple of years, best of luck my friend and God bless.

We need much much more LCD simulations for Retroarch handheld core, all LCD games are still games that deserve preservation. Lots of them are actually fun too. Galaxy Wars 2 is very good and playable.
Casio had several good ones, played some via a Spectrum simulation earlier and Tiger games need preservation en masse.

No guarantees, but you may want to try lighter fluid to clean the screen. It's my go-to when cleaning sticky labels off of packages.
Try the Tomy Tronics LCD games, the tank one that looks like a pair of binoculars, those were actually pretty good.
I swear if Tiger Electronics produced an R-Zone Berzerk! game, it would have been an instant seller.

I hope there is emulator for this "great" handheld console.
Oddly, when Mark said something about putting in some AAA batteries, my iPad on the other side of the room thought someone had said "Hey Siri for AAA batteries." The search came back for AAA storage facilities or something. Yet my iPhone sitting next to me did not pick up on this. My iPad must be in the R-Zone.

Pete Dorr streamed the R zone superscreen on twitch. That version was actually the best version imo. It was black and white and you could actually see what was happening for the most part.
If they can get the transparency good enough in the non-lit spots, they could have had a permanent blocky pixel grid behind it to supplement the game-in-screen. Of course, cheap was the name of the game, so...

1 minute before: Pulled the thing out of the packaging by the damn screen! Well of course they put on a protective film. It's apparently not just children's dumb as snot fingers that gets on there first thing.
Necro comment, but I ended up here from a video about the headset, the ads for which had been recently unlocked from my brain, and it had these little background inserts for each game, like the handheld devices. But there was nowhere to put them, and now I can see on this model there is also nowhere to put them. Are... are there *more* versions?
I have the more larger handheld version where the screen is larger and lifts up out of the plastic case some.
Don't let Soulja' Boy see that!

You can clean the screen with a solvent like gasoline. Just fill up a bucket and drop the whole unit in there.

Boy, they got that one wrong... the main problem being that it's just like a Tiger handheld, but worse on account of the harsh color. But it probably didn't cost them much, since it's just slightly fancier Tiger handheld.

This guy reminds me of the Cinema Snob with the way he reviews stuff.
Was the added negative drama really necessary? The headband version is garbage, but the handheld and tabletop are fine. If you go in with the expectation of a segmented LCD game they're good little short games to mess with, not some big console or handheld level gaming experience. And no it looks a lot sharper and easier to see in person, there isn't that annoying blurry glow.

Let's be honest, one of the biggest points to the R-Zone is it holds up 2 more buttons than the game boy that's pretty cool.
