Nice job, I did a Selmer Centered Tone bell last week. The only real difference is I used carbon fiber rod. When I shrink a ring I always use of a piece of hardwood between the tool and the rawhide mallet, it keeps even pressure so you don't mis hit and warp the ring. As a side note 95% percent of the bell cracks I fix are from Selmers.

The brand of C/A glue that had the broken tip is quite good. If you go to a hobby shop or other supplier you can get it in 3 or 4 different viscosities. I think you will find it better stuff than the hardware store variety. I have friends that are violin bow makers and they use it for some bow repairs. The very thin variety works well to use with grenadilla powder. I have had the frog of an expensive bow get its corner chipped and repaired this way.

I usually can find those CA glues at my local hardware store… I find the regular ca glues work quite well for this application

Hola cómo estás? Muy buen video! Me gustaría preguntarte cómo se llama el aceite que usaste para hidratar la madera!

the way to drill a round surface like that is to chuck the part in a vice under a milling machine and use an end mill to gently cut a flat in the round service. that will give you the purchase you need to both punch and drill properly.

    Nicely done.
Only thing I would add is string buff to polish.

That would be in the next installment of how to repair the repair!

I wonder if you could undersized the ring just too tight to go on, then heat it up slip it on and cool it it quickly.

I am curious, why did you not grove out the inside bell crack and proceed to fill and blend the fill to make the crack disappear? It seems to me that would have the repair perfect, but good work on the outside repair..

Hi, I am a professional repairman from Bulgaria. I am looking for an iron rod for clarinet and oboe.
    Diameter - 2.05mm., 2.10mm. and 2.15mm.. I need 2 meters from each diameter.
Maybe you know from where I could order.
    Thanks in advance.

wes, i have a problem. my teacher told me to superglue the rings on to my clarinet barrel and that was before i knew they are supposed to come off. they didn’t go all the way on and make me a little more flat than i was before. how do i get them off??

You won’t Be able to. You’ll end up cracking the wood underneath when you try to take the ring off

If a composite barrel...ask teacher for replacement.
      If wooden.....
In a well ventillated space fiill a small metal container with a little acetone...the depth of the ring.
Stand the barrel in the acetone for several minutes.
(May have to top off acetone as it evaporates quickly)
      Likely will come off.
      No?
      Let barrel dry
Use a butane lighter at a 45 degree angle , pointing away from wooden barrel. Heat ring.
      Should come off.

Wow, all that work amd time, plus materials, and it's not perfect. What would a new bell cost ?

Its about the concept. The same repair could be done to other parts of a clarinet that are not that easy to replace.

A new bell would cost much more than what I charged.
