Chaos' whole ideology is that "things exist to be used for a purpose". He uses the example of the chicken and egg question: ""What came first; the chicken, or the egg?" You know the question. But do you know the answer? The omelette. The omelette came first. The chicken and the egg exist to make the omelette." He also mentions that swords exist for the purpose of making shields, and vice versa. To mirror this, Chaos believes that he exists to create drama - he's actually an Irishman known as The Original, one of, if not the strongest magic user in existence. However, when I-No was being created in the Backyard (I-No isn't human, but instead a Magical Foci, a beast from the Backyard made wholly from visualised emotions) she was way too strong, to the point she would destroy reality with all the emotions bottled within her. To prevent this, The Original stole all of I-No's emotion (which was half of her being, hence why I-No has no actual emotion, and uses innuendos to feign them), and it sent him insane, turning him into Happy Chaos (Happy Chaos is actually the name of a robot made by Asuka R. Kreutz, which was a prototype of Jack-O' Valentine, and Chaos simply stole the name because he liked it). Chaos was soon eaten by his own creation, the machine god The Universal Will, but was removed from her in -STRIVE-, when I-No tore him out and demanded her other half back - which would make her the God of humanity, since the emotions have taken time to calm and are now in a perfected state within Chaos. Chaos essentially believes that he exists for drama, and so he performs completely unprecedented things such as random murders, spares, and threats just to spice up the story and keep people on their toes. He uses the analogy of Milpico, a milk concentrate which is disgusting normally, but delicious when you mix it with water. He, in this sense, is the Milpico, and everybody else is the water. By themselves, they're mediocre, but mixing them together makes a beautiful story that creates drama. He even calls himself the 'antagonist' on purpose, knowing damn well he does what he does for no reason, because all he wants is for the good guys to have an even better victory than they initially would have.
So, TL;DR - Chaos is the most powerful magic user in existence, completely insane, has a severe "ends justify the means" outlook on life, lives for drama, does completely erratic things for the sake of said drama, and completely rocks a pair of cross-shades (which, combined with his grin, make the Nirvana band logo).

I think you may have misunderstood his point with that, in accordance with what he follows it up with.
He doesn't believe all things exist to be used, he thinks the fact things exist and why they exist doesn't matter, because it exists all the same... he uses the omelette example to demonstrate the inherent absurdity in asking the question to begin with
He can be everything to you, or nothing at all... and yet he exists.
It's useless to speculate on what he is, or why he is... because he just is.
The Original is a cool “nickname” though not sure you’d call it that. Maybe alternate name? Either way the lore for Happy Chaos is insane. Thanks for explaining it for us 😅
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames The word you're probably looking for is "Title". Similar to a Lord, or King, he has a title that carries weight and signifies his importance greatly. He's not just some guy, he is the FIRST, the number one, the primary, the one to set it all in motion.
The Circle is amazing but also requires you to know niche theories about the afterlife and a whole character from the previous game who's story left them in state of vagueness we don't even know if they are technically in this one. To keep it simple as I can, the girl with the bed is Delilah, her brother Romeo used to Pilot the bed but was killed by Robo-Ky in the last game. It is IMPLIED that Romeo's last act was to give the Bed the order to just protect Delilah at all costs. He can't be there to make her smile but he'll make sure she never cries.

Another interpretation was that out pure love and spite, bedman overcame death or heaven to partially remain in the bed to protect Delilah, and because of resurrection things he is only capable of focusing on her.

Happy chaos: he's pretty much a God with near limitless power that chooses to create conflict just because he enjoys the drama.
Sin Kiske: He aged very very rapidly, he's actually 5 years old. His go with the flow attitude probably comes from Sol Badguy since he's been watching after Sin. He's Ky Kiske's son.
Bedman: in the last game there was actually a man in the bed, he died at the end of the story mode. It's believed he's either possessing the bed or the song is about what went through his head as he was dying, "the circle" is probably the circle of life or some kind of limbo and "copy that" is the bed taking its last commands from him to protect his sister.

Bedman? is one of my favorite characters in media, just, ever.
A sentient bed monster, left behind by a dead boy to protect his living sister.
And it protects her with such violence and vigor that one might think that the bed just happens to be taking orders from the boy from the afterlife.
He can't see the radiant light. He can't hear the beautiful chant. He can't feel the tender warmth. He may not make her smile, but he'll never make her cry, even once, never.

Quick backstory for each character:
Happy chaos was previously known as The Original, literally the original human. Who discovered magic, created a kind of A.I. called the universal will, and eventually gained knowledge about EVERYTHING. Then subsequently went insane. He doesn’t particularly care about anything so he loves everything, and when I-no comes to him with her big evil plan in Strive he’s immediately on board because “Hey yeah that sounds like fun!”
Sin’s a pretty simple dude. He’s the son of Ky and Dizzy ( being the son of Dizzy he is also part Gear, aging and maturing quickly and is actually 5 years old in human years) trained by Sol, total optimist and always wants to move forward.
Bedman has a pretty interpretive song in this one. So he and his sister were born with incredible magic power. So much so that it’s the reason they, specifically he, always had to be asleep because being awake for too long would mean his brain would spontaneously combust from his thoughts. He dies from this at the end of Guilty Gear Xrd. Therefore I’m personally one of those people that believes that he’s either controlling the bed from limbo or it’s a Kingdom hearts lingering will situation. This is why he’s unable to ascend to the afterlife, and hear the beautiful chant and feel the radiant light because he’s still attached to keeping the girl you see in the video, Delilah, his sister safe. As a result he’s stuck in limbo, where he experiences 10 million years in an instant, where’s there’s no beginning and no end, where pitch black and pure white are all the same, walking in an endless, inescapable circle and making no progress in moving anywhere.

Bedman is by far My favorite character from Guilty Gear. Just the concept alone is so cool to me.

That's Happy Chaos' mantra. He isn't really good or bad, he's really more of a scene director. His motives are to push the story along to see what comes after the conflict. The end result, no matter if it is good or bad, is his purpose. The sides don't really matter. It's what comes out in the end. The outcome is the reason he puts all the pieces into motion.
AKA: The only reason the chicken and egg exist in the first place is because someone thought up the idea of the omelette.

"I couldn't pin it down, so I Wanted it to keep going so I could figure it out." Honestly? That's a very Happy Chaos way of thinking as well. It makes sense why you'd connect with him.

Regarding Bedman: There's a thing in guilty gear where people *can* come back from the dead, but it's absolutely not pretty. The returned are emotionally dead, and can only hold on to one core obsession, These themes were present in Zato-1's theme, "Let Me Carve Your Way," if you recall.
We don't know if Bedman's soul came back into the bed (thus the name "Bedman?" with the "?"), but if he did, it's a rough experience that he's enduring purely for the sake of his sister.

I love how the three choices for this episode were two of the happiest most uplifting songs in the soundtrack and then the emo angst sad times that is Bedman?'s theme.

After living for centuries after making himself immortal, he became bored and now traipses around the world causing problems because he dislikes life being static
Sin kiske: 5 year old son of ky kiske and 8 year old dizzy. Highly resentful of ky earlier in his life for being a shit dad and bad husband. Eventually came to respect ky's commitment to making the world a better place for sin and dizzy despite his stumbling on that path
Bedman?: animated bed frame belonging to a powerful (and no longer living) psychic person that houses the lingering will of his desire to protect his sister
He dislikes life being static. Happy Chaos makes sense now 🙂
Happy Chaos is the villain of Strive, and terrifyingly enough, he's not evil. He's *bored.* He basically gives I-No god powers just to see what will happen.
...He's also the man that discovered the magic that the entire Guilty Gear universe currently runs off of. Yeah.

So for Bedmen's song named "The Circle", you won't be able to comprehend the deeper meanings behind the lyrics if you don't know the context behind the characters Bedman and "Bedman?". The fact is, this is centered on the whole aspect of protecting the girl in the video, Delilah. As for who is the one trying to protect her? Well, that would be her brother essentially. Originally, there used to be someone known as Bedman, not "Bedman?" He was fairly powerful, yet died in the previous game. It's left unknown as for what really happened to him, but what matters is the Bed in which he laid in was still able move. And now currently protecting his sister. As to how this is, it's speculated that the brother could actually BE the Bed. And this song reflects this in that regard.
For example, regarding the name of the song called "The Circle." I'm sure you're familiar of the term the Circle of Life? Think of it being related to Nirvana, only backwards. This means that the being named Bedman ended up in state of purgatory, hence the "Welcome to the infinite world".
"What's my endgame, there came a zero." His endgame likely being his goals from the previous game and the zero being the end of his life.
"Sent here, there's silence everywhere. No peace either." when sent to this purgatory, he's unable to truly die nor go through the cycle of rebirth. Not only that he is constantly in a state of suffering with barely much of any sense of self, hence the "Where there is no beginning and no end."
The random "Copy that" you hear many times is likely from "Bedman?" the bed itself following directions from the actual Bedman through his desire to protect his sister. This desire which is the reason why you see the bed go so far to protect the girl. "I'll come to you without a second thought."
And lastly, "I'm here, I'm here" is referring to the fact that the brother, Bedman may still be there. Somewhere in the very bed that protects his sister. Somewhere within, at the border of purgatory. At the "border of the Circle." And in a way telling her sister that he is still there with her.
You would really need to know the backstory to understand the nuances of the lyrics as they have a deeper meaning than you might realize.
That’s pretty cool once we’ve been given the context. That’s what’s pretty special about these is how deep they are when you know the characters lore but also how crazy it seems when you don’t 🙃
In regards to the circle it’s normal that it feels unsettling since it’s about someone stuck in limbo or a machine that think it’s stuck in limbo (we actually don’t know wich it is). But also it talks about that almost undying need to protect your younger sibling wich even in its state while it can’t make her smile it’ll do anything to not have her cry.
"The Circle" is my favorite song from Strive so far and I think the best way to describe it is a man's shredded soul *screaming* on the borders of perceptible reality, beyond both life and death, exiled from the afterlife, comforted only by fleeting moments of lucidity.
Like, Bedman in the previous game didn't die a normal death. Whatever afterlife or cycle of life and death you imagine, there's basically no way he became part of it. I think that's why the song is so chaotic and discordant, only occasionally emerging from the crushing depths for a few moments of harmony before descending again into the deep.
Like, I don't believe we fully understand whether Romeo is still present in the bed or if it's acting on lingering orders and sentiments he left behind, but I think this song *is* from Romeo's perspective, whether he's still present in the bed or completely gone.
I love Bedman(?). This mostrous robot being pulled along by completely unrestrained id trying to protect this girl at all costs to the point that she's terrified by it, but she also feels affection for it. Like being followed around by a tiger that won't leave you alone and will tear apart anything that seems like it's threatening you.
My favorite part about the Hourglass is the line “the hourglass does not turn… on its own” because Sin knows about 2 time travelers who could just turn the hourglass

On an unrelated note:
That drink at 3:09 is Milpico, a syrup-water beverage that doesn't actually exist in real life. Chaos likes to use it as an example of his philosophy that for humanity to strive (get it?) for a better future, things need to be shaken up.
Not main antagonist. Bedman is a supporting antagonist to the Main Antagonist of Xrd, the Universal Will. He is an important antagonist, but is still just doing the UWs dirty work.
Also, Milpico is actually based on a drink called "Calpico" so it kinda exists. Calpico, or Calpis, is sold as a concentrate that you dilute in water to make a drink, so, kinda similar. Tastes like vanilla yoghurt in case you're wondering.
Happy chaos is a menace to society and his lust for drama inspired me to write a story about someone with a similar mindset. (Also happy chaos snapped his fingers and made a building explode. He's just that cool)

Sin Kiske is the purest distillation of the "golden retriever himbo" character archetype.

Happy Chaos is That Man. Specifically, the name That Man, which is a name with a lot of history in the series, is actually attributed to more than one person, Happy Chaos and Asuka. Happy Chaos in particular is just names on names. Before he was Happy Chaos he was The Original, the philosopher who discovered magic and helped bring it to all of humanity, and then just up and vanished from history. Asuka learned magic directly from him, making the two of them #1 and #2 in terms of the strongest mages in the world. Happy Chaos has half of I-Nos godlike power, which he took back before he became Happy Chaos out of fear of I-No destroying everything, but during the events of Strive he teams up with her to return the power to her, after which his whereabouts are largely unknown once again. Chaos is implied to be responsible for much of Asukas supposed war crimes, including the destruction of Baikens village, and partially Bedmans death. I don't really know how to lay out his motivations in a concise way so I'm gonna spare you lol but he's very complex. His song is all about his philosophies so it's there if you wanna dissect it for yourself, or some other commenter might fill you in.
One day Sol paid Ky and Dizzy a visit, but something was wrong with Ky. Sol found Dizzy with a child who looked to be 3 years old standing behind her, but according to Dizzy it had only been 6 months. Ky and Dizzy had fallen in love after she decided to go with him to see the world, and since Dizzy is the Gear daughter of Justice their love was taboo so they kept it secret, but a group called the conclave found out and was using it to blackmail Ky, which had him at his wits end. Ky asked Sol to take his son, Sin with him for awhile, and Sol surprisingly agreed, believing in Ky's vision for thr future. Sin Kiske shares characteristics of not only his mom, dad and grandmother, but also of Sol due to Sol raising him. He hated Ky for a long time but during Guilty Gear 2: Overture they made amends. Due to his Gear heritage he aged to adulthood by age 3, and as of Strive he is 5. He's not very academic but he's extremely emotionally intelligent, and despite his eagerness to fight he's no stranger to de-escalation. He's wise beyond his years and if Guilty Gears story continues he's expected to take on the role of main protagonist. He's really cool and such a sweet guy and I love him ❤️
Bedman? is a dead man. The bedframe was once piloted by a man referred to as Bedman, real name Romeo, but during the climax of Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator he died. Bedman and his younger sister Delilah both had a disease that gave them massive IQs and psychic powers at the cost of their brains being unable to handle the mental strain, forcing them to stay asleep or die. Bedman sought a way to give them both a better life which led him to pilot a mechanical bed and work for The Universal Will, but he was betrayed and died. In his last moments he gave his bed the command to protect his sister at all costs, and simultaneously he spent the last of his power to lift Delilahs condition. It's also implied Bedmans soul resides in the bed now, trapped. Delilah wanted to get revenge for her brother, but Baiken convinced her not to, and now Baiken, Delilah and the bed all live together :3 everything about Bedman is so peak to me, which is wild given how absurd the concept is lmao but damn can Daisuke write some good characters.
I wanna elaborate on the circumstances of Bedmans death a tad cuz it's kinda wild how fucked he was. He was attacked by Venom and Robo Ky, the former of which was on a suicide mission to be the fall man for the assasins guilds atrocities. Robo Ky helped Venom land the attack that caused Bedman to wake up, which causes them to be KOed. Then The Universal Will (with Happy Chaos inside of them!!!) shows up and reveals their betrayal to Bedman, and that's when Bedman went crazy anime mode and did all that he did for Delilah before dying. Bedman got killed by 4 different people and a disease all at once wtf.
Romeo really was a god for five seconds and then turned to stone, crazy.
Also, as far as we know, according to HC, Romeo is, technically not dead. He apparently erased his ID, which somehow made him a multidimensional being, soooo yeah?

Asuka Kreuts “Gravity” I think is going to come next and its another banger and has the feel of like the final chapter to a story
Sins theme is highkey one of my favorites in the game. The piano solo is so pretty, and the last part of the guitar solo plays the motif of his fathers theme in one ear, and his mothers theme in the other if you listen to it with headphones, it's so sick. Sin just rules. His existence and outlook on life and whatnot are all a product of so much, he feels like what the whole series has been leading up to. He's the crystalization of almost every idea that the story shines a light on.

Happy chaos is basically a god, hes the man who discovered magic and has been to an dimenssion that is, essencially, the backbone of the universe and everthing that has been created since, and after obtaining near infinite power and knowledge, in strive, his philosophy is one that piorizes the greater common growth, since attaining godhood made him detached from humanity, he views humanity as a whole rather than individuals, he desires for humans to grow, but believes such growth can only be attained trought conflict of manific proportions
In his own words, he wishes for kids to not fall as sleep in the history class so he will make hell to spice history up, since shields are only needed because there are swords, he will become the strongest sword once humanity has grown used to its shield, to teach people to appreciate the blue sky's beauty, he will become the violent storm that preceeds it ( which is also why he neves uses overpowered magic nor kills all the opposers instantly despite being absolutely able to do so, the end goal is for everyone to grow, villains and heroes, hes just another character in their play )

I guess it's been brought up, but Happy Chaos is kinda whom folks consider the main antagonist of Strive (though it's not that simple)- His existence was hinted at for a while in the series, but Strive is the first time he was fully unveiled. He's responsible for many tragic events that have happened in the past, as he is always stirring up trouble to get people to act against it, causing him amusement. He holds no actual ill will, he just wants *things* to keep happening in the world, good and bad alike. To him, what he's doing keeps the world from stagnating and turning stale and boring. ("When the violent storm is over, the blue sky is more beautiful than ever.")
Sin is an interesting character (imo). He's the child of a human and Gear who fell in love, despite society not even aknowledging Gears as people. Due to his Gear blood, he grows at a different rate than a human- he's actually only a few years old, and people kinda aren't sure where to place his maturity level age-wise, either. He can kinda seem like a big child at times. Also, because of this, he's been unable to live freely among humans for most of his life so far (cause if anyone figured out he's part Gear cause of his strange growth rate, they'd try to kill him)- but despite that, Sin generally keeps an optimistic outlook on life as you can tell by his theme, and he is wiser than people give him credit for. He's really just living and enjoying his life, even as he's stuck between two worlds, so to speak. ("Above is the sky and below is the ground. My heart is here.")
Bedman?'s theme miiiiight be my favorite character theme in Strive, but it's kinda the most relying on the lore of the character to get it and all. The theme is actually not of the little girl, but the robotic bed protecting her, who is the character you actually play as. The bed was previously not as broken down, and used by "Bedman", a villain from the last game, who was a smug and verbose young man with immense mental powers, riding around on the bed while always physically asleep (but perceiving the world from within his dreams.)

Happy Chaos wears his concept on his sleeve. He just enjoys the drama of life, creates conflict just to create a story. Song explains that pretty well.
Sin Kiske is also straight forward. He's just a go-getter, has a positive outlook on life, kinda naive because he's young.
Bedman is the difficult one. You really do need the context of his story to understand it. His sister Delilah and he were both cursed to sleep forever or they would die, and he sacrificed himself so she could wake up. The bed was his weapon in Xrd and is now programmed to protect his sister. You were on the right track with the circle of life. Bedman is now effectively in purgatory, on the border of the circle. He can't see the light and hear the chant because he's not in heaven. He's still protecting his sister from beyond the grave.
Guilty Gear has what I like to call emotional lyrics. They don't 100% make sense without context but because they are written in such a strange way, they make you think about the lyrics and make you that much more invested. It's very smart, all things considered, and makes the songs feel so specific to their characters.

In Bedmans? theme, "on the border of the circle" is theorized to mean that Bedman is stuck on one step in the cycle of reincarnation. He's *right* in between the end of his life, and the start of the next, his soul trapped in that damned bedframe.
So idk much about bedman but the consensus about the song is that he’s dead. The “circle” is the circle of life. Bedman was the little girls brother who died, and now either the bed machine that he used to fight is following his will to protect his sister, or he is controlling it through the afterlife to keep her safe, either way it’s quite sad when yo realize he’s literally yelling “I’m here” from the afterlife to his sister like damn, but either way I find it still really cool
So bedman is an odd character, in case anyone else hasn’t explained his theme yet, in the last game, their was a man in the bed, (I’ll refer to him as Romeo for simplicity), so Romeo is separated from the bed and killed, with the last of his power he allows his sister to wake up and explore the world, (both humans his sister have physic powers and if they woke up, their brains would explode), when she wakes up, she goes after her brothers killer, not currently important. When Romeo died, his soul was given the chance to pass on, which is why the song keeps referring to god, he refused this though, choosing to protect his sister, he would then possess the bed frame, leading to the current bedman, the circle the song keeps referring to is the bed frame, describing it as an unknown place and being confused, but even if he’s confused, scarred, or unable to speak, he knows he has to protect his sister, being the girl with bedman, Delilah.
The song is not about Delilah, but Bedman, and his undying love to protect his sister, sorry if this was long, but Bedman is a very complex character, and I love this story, so painful yet so uplifting

I always get mixed feelings watching their _Guilty Gear_ music reactions: on the one hand, it's always nice to see anyone reacting to this great music; on the other, it's a lot like watching your Dad try out this "heavy metal business." Either way, just glad Bethany got the spirit of "Drift," which is one of my three favorite songs.
Also, not sure if it's ever been pointed out, but the lyrics for many of CloudDrop's AMVs are inaccurate, which is pretty apparent in "The Circle," but was a major problem for a few others before as well. Not depreciating CloudDrop's efforts, but it's good to keep in mind.

It looks like the GG community is coming out to tell you all about the game lore without bothering to explain lyrics, so that's fun. 😆
In "Drift," there were a couple of lines you seemed to interpret literally. When he says "Two hundred eyes on me; There's a hundred of me," what he means is that if 200 eyes (100 people) look at him, each one of them will create a version of him that exists only in their minds, and none of them are real but all of them are to some extent true ("the truth is not always real"). When he says "I don't want any conclusions" right after that, he doesn't mean "endings," he means he doesn't want anyone to think they have him figured out. The line about 100 mouths speaking of him and 100 of him being born is the same as the line about eyes.
In "The Hourglass," he's not just saying "The hourglass does not turn upside down." The rest of the line is separated by a little pause: "The hourglass does not turn upside down on its own." He's saying that if you want your life to keep moving forward, you have to act. It will work out, but only as long as you keep running. Then there's this line: "Above is the sky and below is the ground; my heart is here." He is not just describing the literal positions of things. He's showing an emotional maturity well beyond his years, practicing some version of mindfulness, and being present in the moment. He's saying that there may be a lot of things wrong with the world and a lot he doesn't understand, but the ground and sky are where they're supposed to be and that's enough for him to not lose heart. I personally think it's the most beautiful, poetic line in a song that is already unabashedly hopeful.
With "The Circle," the main thing to keep in mind is that "the circle" is the karmic cycle of reincarnation and that Bedman? is basically a machine that's possessed by a spirit who broke free of that cycle so he could stay and protect his sister, only to realize that what exists outside that cycle (in the game universe) is Nothing and now he has to just exist forever with the consequences of his decision.
I suggest you to watch Max0r Helldivers 2 summary. Funny as doom eternal summary: AS HELL
