Welcome to Jogja, Adam! Here are a glimpse info and itinerary when you are in Jogjakarta.
1. Try Kopi Jos which is a glass of coffee mix with burn charcoal.
2. Try Nasi Kucing on Angkringan and blend with the locals.
3. FYI many foreigners stay at Prawirotaman street.
4. If you want to visit tourist spot, mostly have two different tickets for local and foreiner.
5. Try to go outside the city or suburb area. Rent a scooter. Maybe around 50-70 k IDR or even above. I don't know the exact price for nowadays.
6. Go to Gunungkidul for withe sand beaches, hike Mount Nglanggeran, find many waterfalls, rafting in Opak River, Goa Pindul, etc.
7. Go to Bantul for black sand beaches, sand dune, etc.
8. Try to go to Puthuk Setumbu around Borobudur for amazing sunrise. And Ratu Boko Temple for breathtaking sunset.
9. I highly recomend you to go to Ullen Sentalu Museum. It's Javanese Culture Museum and the best museum for me. It's located in Kaliurang.

Maybe if you want to find som bar or some western style cafe you can go to prawirotaman street, you can find many resort, hotel, homestay, cafe and some bar, that place are tourist spot

maybe you will consider staying around prawirotaman street, there's a lot more to see. it's closed to the Yogyakarta palace and Ramadhan market jogokaryan is an annual event.

The oldest and the famous university in Yogyakarta is Gadjah Mada University. This is one of the best university in Indonesia. You should go there.

If you want to see the real face of Indonesian university, you need to go to UGM (Gajah Mada University) the top 3 university in Indonesia (located in Yogyakarta).. and there also lot of delicious street food (students favorite) and cafe for dinner.
But if you're in Bali, you can go to Udayana University at Jimbaran (not top 10, but it's good university too).
